mistyaera Posted April 15, 2013 I want to REALLY thank you for this tutorial. Even though I'm leaving the DD hobby (for now), this was extremely useful when I was in it. Two of my girls went through this treatment and both looked like new when I was done. I used the heat lamp and I couldn't believe the difference. The dark stains on one of my girls took about a week to fully remove, but like was said, even after I stopped the treatment after most of the stain was gone, it was completely vanished in a week or two later without treatments! I think I'd recommend this over the Removezit because it seemed safer to me and I could pick it up at any pharmacy/supermarket. D: I didn't want to deal with resin bubbling, either. Naruki Posted May 26, 2013 Thank you for this tutorial, before reading it I was really paranoid about the vinyl staining on Dollfie Dreams being too much to deal with. This tutorial really helped me realize that while you can take a lot of preventative action against staining, if staining does occur it's not the end of the world and can be easily fixed. Bijou Posted June 18, 2013 Hello! I have a question about wig staining. In the original post it says that wig fibers don't stain only the fabric inside the wig. I recently bought a bright red wig at Doll North and it is staining like crazy all over my poor doll's face and neck. Is there something I can do to the wig to seal the color better and stop it from staining? I would really like to keep using the wig because I love the way it looks, but I can't even leave it on her for a couple days without the pink/red stains getting worse. Also, I am going to try the Oxy/heat lamp method for removing these stains (when I can get my hands on some of the 10% stuff from the states). Is it possible to use this a little bit on the face, as long as I don't apply it directly on the painted areas? Her forehead above her brows is quite pink from the bangs, and even down a bit on her nose Thanks for any input on what to do with the red wig from hell >P
Jezrah Posted June 18, 2013 What kind of fiber is the wig? The wig fiber not staining is only true of synthetic fiber, not fur or tanything else dyed. And Leekeworld has recently made some art wigs that are synthetic but colored with powder that can come off. As far as I know you can use Oxy on non painted portions of the face as is discussed here. Bijou Posted June 19, 2013 It's not a fur wig, and I'm not sure what company it was originally made by. By the way it's been staining areas not in direct contact with the wig I wouldn't be surprised if it was dyed with powder as you say. Is there any treatment I can do to the wig to seal the dye better?
jadepixel Posted June 19, 2013 You could try soaking the wig in cold water to see if some of the dye will leech out, though this could mess up the wig's styling if it's not just a straight wig. Only ones I've seen to stain that way are made of mohair or another natural dyed material. If you have a picture of the wig or can check for any labels on it, we can maybe help more. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

Distractus Posted August 11, 2013 Bookmarking this fantastic thread for the future~ The entire stain issue is very intimidating for someone new coming into the DD hobby, thank you everyone that has contributed to this thread! I feel much more confident now than before reading it. ^^
Eiko82 Posted August 19, 2013 I'm new to DDs but this FAQ was incredibly helpful. I'll be sure to remember this to take care of my girl. Living at my place: Rise (DD Rise Kujikawa), Chie (Smart Doll Mirai) and Aisha (Smart Doll Kurenai)
Akkiko Posted September 24, 2013 I don't know if this has been mentioned before but I have been told that instead of a lamp they can be left out in sunlight with it on. I don't know if this method works as I have yet to try it myself.

sakurafubuki Posted September 30, 2013 Thank you much for this guide! It really helps to understand Dollfie Dream more! I'm new to Dollfie Dream and just got my parts for building my own DD (semi-white skin) today. I'd like to ask would coating my DD with Mr. SUPER CLEAR FLAT help to prevent staining? I'm used to handling Super Dollfies and this is my first DD. Sorry for this newbie question. I've been looking around everywhere searching for an answer but haven't got any luck so far. Jezrah Posted September 30, 2013 I'd like to ask would coating my DD with Mr. SUPER CLEAR FLAT help to prevent staining? I'm used to handling Super Dollfies and this is my first DD. Sorry for this newbie question. I've been looking around everywhere searching for an answer but haven't got any luck so far. I tried that on my first girl since I was worried about staining too. In my experience, she didn't get stained as quickly or easily as my other girls. But she did still get stains, particularly on her feet and the backs of her legs if she was sitting. And then eventually (after about two years) I noticed that her arms were turning all over grayish. That was the sealant collecting dirt/grease over time. And if I tucked her into a bag and tilted her head down into her chest to save space, her chin got stuck to her neck, and then there was a mark in the sealant on her neck when I pulled it away. So I took the time to give her an all over cleaning with Windsor and Newton brush cleaner to remove it. The grayness and the neck markings went away. So I chose not to reseal her whole body. To me the hassle of having to remove and reapply it so it doesn't look dIrty is more annoying than the occasional Oxy10 treatment.
sakurafubuki Posted October 1, 2013 Jezrah, thank you very much for your reply! As for my Super Dollfies, I do the following to prevent staining: 1. Coat the girls with Mr. SUPER CLEAR FLAT and UV Cut 2. I use creamy white colour human use stockings to make protective gear for my girls I've been wondering if I could use the same method to protect Dollfie Dream...? Once one of my girls (SD) wore a pair of black fish net tights over the protective tights. The black colour went through the protective tights and stained her thighs. I removed the stain easily with Magic Eraser. I think I could remove the stain so easily was thanks to the layers of Mr. SUPER CLEAR FLAT and UV Cut, which might have caught the stain instead of the doll herself. I've heard that Magic Eraser is similar to sand paper and might damage some surfaces. Would it harm Dollfie Dream? Is it better to wet the Magic Eraser before using it or leaving it dry? Thank you! Jezrah Posted October 1, 2013 Those who are worried about staining usually dress their girls with a protective body stocking, usually from Coolcat. The ability of the stocking to completely prevent stains depends on the opacity of the fabric. Something really light like pantyhose will still allow stains through, but something thicker that you can't see through at all can completely stop staining. I would say nothing is a guarantee though. Sometimes other other things can influence whether a stain occurs or not, like weather, humidity, and also pressure from tight shoes. Magic Eraser can be used on a DD, dry or wet, as long as it's not on the faceup. But it only helps to remove actual surface dirt, like if she fell over into the dirt or something. Anything that looks like a stain on a DD does not come off easily with an eraser like it will on a resin. I've had bad blue jean stains come off of an unsealed resin doll no problem with an eraser. On a DD that same type of staining would have had to be removed with Oxy10 over the course of weeks. So I don't know if the sealant had anything to do with ease of stain removal or not. The thing with resins is that you can usually just wipe a stain off of them, but if the coloring seeps into the resin and doesn't wipe off, sometimes it will never come off. But with DDs, even though it's always more time consuming to remove stains, even really bad ones can come out and look like nothing ever happened. It's up to you if you feel the doll is safer with the sealant on as well as a stocking, though. It won't hurt it. I just wasn't personally impressed with the outcome. Kymera Posted May 11, 2014 Hi. You should add dark-colored Purple Plum wigs (sold by AnimeStuff Store) to the list of things that can cause stains. I purchased a burgundy wig and within minutes of putting it on my doll, the wig fiber had caused pink stains all over her ears, face, and neck. Guest Aurea Posted May 11, 2014 Hi. You should add dark-colored Purple Plum wigs (sold by AnimeStuff Store) to the list of things that can cause stains. I purchased a burgundy wig and within minutes of putting it on my doll, the wig fiber had caused pink stains all over her ears, face, and neck. Thanks for the info on these, I almost bought one the other day and ended going elsewhere (odd luck of the werebunny?). Sorry to see you got some color absorbed there, but it at least doesn't look bad(well from the pictures at least) and the ears if anything now have a more normal lifelike coloring. Kymera Posted May 12, 2014 The photos don't show how really bright pink it actually is. Is not a color that should be used for body blush. I'm glad you dodged the bullet, Suiseiseki4life. I saw someone on DoA who was selling several other Purple Plum wigs, so I'm going to contact them to see if they also experienced the same problem. battrastard Posted May 24, 2014 You're welcome, all! I hope this info helps people in the future, just as others helped me learn. Having our collective knowledge in one place is something I wished I had had originally, which was the inspiration for the post. Also, it provides a place to talk about and improve our techniques. I handle stains pretty much the same way except I wrap the area I'm treating with plastic wrap, which keeps it moist longer so you don't have to reapply more then once a day. Interesting idea! It makes sense that plastic wrap would keep moisture in, just like for food. Do you use this plastic wrap instead of a heatlamp, or in addition? If the latter, have you had any trouble with the plastic wrap melting into the skin because of its thinness and lower melting point than vinyl? I'm currently trying this out on Tana's MDD body, it was heavily stained from the waist down from a pair of purple and black stockings/pantsu from MimiWoo. It looked like someone dusted her with black/purple spray paint. So far, I've had great success after only two treatments, with the third just applied before I posted this. Sadly, I of course neglected to take any pics! *sigh* As a suggestion, pinch the ends/edges of the plastic wrap together, making an airtight seal, it helps to keep the cream from drying out for a good 24 hours! (the 2nd treatment was left for two days with very little evaporation!) Wrapping the parts in plastic definitely lets the oxy cream work more thoroughly, it's a great idea! Wei Posted July 4, 2014 Does vinyl protectant for car/boat furniture work on dollfies? I was thinking about using 303 Aerospace for anti stain coating.
