How to Disassemble a DDdy-1 Body?

Hello all. I have an older DDdy girl (Kanu) with really loose joints I was going to fiddle with, tightening screws and strategically applying nail polish, but her hip joints fill me with fear. They don't look like they're meant to come apart, but the area is so loose she literally cannot sit up unsupported. I tried to find a guide for this, but my own searches came up empty; unfortunately Volks' guides are for more modern dolls, so no luck there.

If anyone has any tips or warnings for me, I'd appreciate it! (Other tips for tightening doll joints are also appreciated -- I can't replace Kanu's body, so I have to make the best of what I've got!) Thank you for your time!

An original DDdy has the same internal frame as a DDII, as far as I know. So look at the pictures in the first post in this thread:

I've never worked with that frame, but from those pictures I can see the hip joints are made the same way they are on DDIII, which I am familiar with. The thighs just pull off, or twist them back and forth and work them off. They may well be very tight to get off, and back on. I find that's the hardest part of the DDIII to work on.

Once you've got the limbs apart heating the vinyl with a hair dryer will make it easier to get the frame parts out, and on the thighs I think it's likely the only way to get them out. After you see the frame parts it's pretty easy to understand what screws tighten what.

Someone else who has actually worked with that version of the frame may have some more specific advice for you.

The original DDdy body is indeed the same in the hip area as the DD2 and DD3 altho the DD3 hip tubes are a bit smaller in diameter than the older bodies, hence their problems with cracking a lot back in the day when they were first introduced.

 

ANYWAY, to take apart your Kanu, do as CFX said and take a hair dryer or heat gun and warm up the joints at the hips, having the legs spread open as far as they can go helps.  Once warmed up, grab the top of the thigh and pull and twist with some force, pulling straight out and away from the hips.  Sometimes they come off easily, other times you have to work at it for a bit.  But keep at it, they'll pop off soon.
