Cleaning the outfit and armor of Saber

Recommended Posts

Victoria

Hi there,

I just got a Saber and since her outfit as well as armor seems to smell a bit I'd like to have everything nice and clean again. ;-; I have already washed the parts of her clothes which don't have these wires inside but what can I do with her wired skirt? Is it safe to hand wash it as well if it's not in the water gor not too long and can dry in the sun afterwards or would this damage the wires?

As for her armor, would it be safe to put it in clean cold water, too?

Thank you!

Hand washing the outfit is definitely the way to go, even with the wired bits.  Just make sure to let it dry well.  As for the armor, I've used a clean soft washrag and warm water with Dawn dish soap to clean mine and no damage occurred. Just pat it dry with another soft cloth and it'll be fine.

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

These are great news, tyvm Billy! The results will be shown soon. ☺️

Have you ever washed a bun wig, too, btw?

No problem, you're welcome.  I've never washed a bun wig before and wouldn't dare try it because if it gets screwed up it won't be easy to repair or replace.  If it has a smell to it then I'd suggest getting some of that packaging silica gel or similar and put it in a bag with the wig.  That stuff seems to pull odors out rather well but it takes a some time.

I should add to that comment because it might not be clear to everyone. Use the baking soda the same way Billy suggests with the silica gel, put some of it in a little bowl or something like that together with the wig in a closed box or container. It may take a while but the oder shoud dissipate. As he said, washing a wig like this is risky. Volks uses some kind of glue or more permanent styling goop but that sometimes comes off or dissolves in water. I believe it was @foo that messed up the styling on Yaya's wig like this.

If you do end up needing or wanting a replacement wig, Cotin Doll does have a Saber braid/bun wig now:

Thanks cfx, their wigs look wonderful! I really have to get one of these bunstyle-wigs for my Blue Saber as I'm still too afraid to use her original wig. I have never owned one of their wigs so far, but they seem to be very high quality. And they are not so shiny, I like that even more.

The above-mentioned doll is Saber Lily, though. The wig seems to be from Saber Nero and at first I wanted to use it on my other Saber but I suppose I will rather sell it if washing is no option. (It doesn't really smell but I still dislike the thought of touching it due to the condition of outfit, armor and box xD I'm a little bit complicated, I know)

Do you have any idea if there are shops which are selling replica of her wig as well? Including this cute ribbon. Cotindoll seems to have a very similar pigtail wig as well, but with a totally different ribbon. ;-;

Update:

And just FYI. Sabers outfit looks (and smells) great again. I was even able to get out the very few stains it had. *-* Her armor is next at the weekend.

On washing doll clothes in general, once I'm done hand washing them in either a little plastic scrub tub or a dish tub (Dollar Tree has these), I'll hang the clothes up via clip hangers (like for pants) or my octopus multi clip hanger, Pressa, from Ikea. I find stuff dries a bit better this way then just sticking it over the rod in the bathroom on the shower. Saw you got it clean already, but wanted to mention this for anyone else who saw the thread since I find it helpful
