Alright everyone, let's get back on topic and leave the recast stuff for a different spot.  Enough has been said here so let's move on.  

As someone suggested, I'll start working on a thread to pin about the known fakes/recast we have seen so far in the vinyl world so that new members can see them and understand what they are and why they are considered bad news and banned from most places.

Unless something has changed, Makoto will be a limited time pre-order open from June 6th to the 12th. According to the text everyone who orders will get a doll. They may have to do multiple batches, so I would be prepared to wait up to a year for delivery like with Luka.

@BeyondTime - Asking because I can't remember off the top of my head, but does Volks charge upfront for pre-orders? If they do, then I will have to wait, since I'm currently not in a position to afford a huge doll purchase.

It depends. On the normal pre-order project that they do around September they usually let you do a deposit on the doll and sometimes on extra outfits. However, on the special pre-orders like this they have always done up front payment as far as I know. That's part of why people were really unhappy about the Luka delay, and why I keep telling folks to be prepared to wait up to a year for delivery.

I'm not seeing any option for a deposit on the webstore pages, so I would expect it to be a full prepay.

Auuugh, my sadness is real. I'd be able to bear it if Volks allowed me to pay in chunks, but I suppose I'll just add Makoto to my 'someday' list for now. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

The aftermarket on the Sailor Moon dolls has been pretty good imo. I think I saw Mercury and Mars on Mandarake for about ¥80k

Per a post on the Volks USA facebook, Jupiter won't be available through Volks USA. They're referring customers to Japan. It's in reply to a comment on this post.

 

Wow, that's unexpected. Maybe it's because the Japan release is already not limited like a normal release would be?

True, but maybe the license for Sakura allowed for greater numbers to be produced, or maybe they are expecting to max out their license agreement numbers for Jupiter through the international website alone. This is all just a speculation of course.

I was thinking some license issue maybe as well. I want to emphasize that all of the rest of this post is speculation so as not to add to any confusion.

Since this is some kind of preorder, there's obviously some flexibility in the number Volks can make, but there's likely still a minimum, both for their own purposes of what is financially feasible to make and perhaps part of their license, and various evidence supports the theory that Volks overestimated how well Mars and Mercury would sell, so there may be lowered expectations for Jupiter. [Mars and Mercury sell for 80,000 yen on Mandarake and aren't uncommon, while Sailor Moon goes for 100K. 80K is pretty much the low end for licensed DDs. In addition, they are both part of that group of dolls that Volks USA seems to have available any time they have some event.]

While we're speculating, there's another possibility. Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that all of the Sailor Moon blu-rays in the US are out of print, and there's random wild speculation online that the license holder (or the mangaka) has revoked all licensing for some reason. If there is anything to this, perhaps it affects merchandise as well.

Bandai owns - or, I should say has a complete strangle-hold on the Sailor Moon goods license, so it's possible they're forcing Volks to a create lower supply number of dolls than with previous releases. That, and they're forcing Volks to cut corners with the dolls themselves (the poorly-done gloves, and Sailor Moon's god-awful wig), which wouldn't surprise me given Bandai's own products are, well, crappy.

As far as the anime goes, Toei is cheap, too, and it's very possible they revoked Viz' licensing deal as well.

This is my thought as well.  Sailor Moon has unfortunately been one of the worst-handled licenced Anime series.

Back in 2019, Naoko blocked all international licencing, apparently due to an issue with Viz US, so there's a big chance we're still feeling the effects of this, and thus VOLKS is not allowed to offer Jupiter on the US site.

@OccultBeast Yes, and she did so because Viz absolutely visually butchered the anime releases over here. Naturally, she was quite upset. That, and they tried to lowball her, too, when trying to renew the license. When I learned this, I bought the AUS Madman blu-rays instead for the original 90s series. No regrets.

Absolutely, since the very beginning companies have been doing everything they can to profit off of her and not listen to her, and it makes me so, so angry.  She has every right to deny licensing and I 100% will never blame her for it.

Luckily it's hardly any more inconvenient to order Jupiter off the JP site, and 100% worth it if you want her DD.

There's no evidence to support any of that. The doll is, as far as we know, an unlimited preorder, so there's no requirement for Volks to limit the number made.

As far as poor quality wigs and accessories, that isn't unique to Sailor Moon DDs. Kirika and many others have had poor wigs. Volks makes nice dolls but there are a lot of areas where things could be really improved. Without any evidence, claiming Bandai is requiring Volks to do this is just slander.

This all just reads like speculation and fear-mongering which I think has no place here.

Wait...so this is an unlimited pre-order? Like can I wait until the very last day of the sale, and still be able to grab her, or is there a set amount of dolls/clickwar? 

I kinda have a prior commitment so I can't have 6-700$ ready on the 6th, but I definitely can the following week. I just figured this would be a clickwar situation so I'd have to miss out and buy on Mandarake eventually.

Sad about USA not getting her- I was hoping to grab her there if I missed her on JP.

It's a short term preorder over those six days, and is stated to be unlimited, according to Volks. From the Dolpa page (darn machine translation):

There's more info on the store page including this bit which implies they are prepared to deal with however many orders they get:

In practice, I imagine there is some physical limit to what they can do, like they probably can't make 50,000 dolls if somehow she was that popular so there might still be a possibility of the order period ending early, but there is no statement on that, just my thoughts there. I imagine they have a very good idea of the number of orders they will receive based on the other Sailor Moon dolls, and DD sales in general, and have prepared accordingly.

 

If you do wait until the end, just pay attention to the end date and time, and remember this is Japan time--I suck at this myself so I'm bringing it up:

Regarding Sailor Jupiter DD, in the attention section on volks.jp, it says it cannot combine shipping for orders. Does that mean l cannot buy DD Sailor Jupiter and her school uniform all together but have to pay shipping for each item? Anyone has an idea?

I am not certain about this event. Usually they let you buy a limited doll and her outfit on the same order, but since some items may end up being pre-orders they may want them separate from the outfit.
