Victoria Posted May 17, 2020 Hi everyone, I've recently noticed that my Manaka has a flaw on her chin. It can't be from me as I haven't done anything with her when I bought her from Mandarke a few months ago. Do have any idea what exactly that is? Has the vinyl chipped (????) or is it a problem with the face-up? I have tried using a hair dryer as that worked years ago with my Rise when she had a "flat" nose but nothing has changed this time xD
Dollvari Posted June 2, 2020 That looks like either damage from an accident or a pocket from the manufacturing process. The vinyl will have empty pockets like that sometimes you won’t see unless you sand or mod the surface. Normally the ones on the surface won’t pass the quality check. I have a custom head purchased recently, that has something similar. It is in the same area roughly. In my case they had modded the chin and mouth. Mine kind of looks like a beauty mark
cfx Posted June 2, 2020 I agree with that assessment; now that you bring that up I am pretty sure I read a post here from a faceup artist that had that happen when sanding down a head. I think it might have been @Subaru.
Subaru Posted June 3, 2020 Nah that post wasn't me. --- Anyways it looks like something dented it during storage or by the original owner. I don't really have any tips on removing it other than heat unfortunately... However it seems like you've already tried that. If you're brave enough I would suggest sanding down the chin until you don't notice the dent. My wallet needs a vacation 💸Blog Insta Ko-Fi Etsy

I saw it long ago when I read practically the entire forum; someone had sanded a DDH-01 I think, and found a bubble in doing so leaving a void, which I think then filled with putty or something. Ohh no that was me then. This case seems more like a dent instead of an airbubble. My wallet needs a vacation 💸Blog Insta Ko-Fi Etsy
Jezrah Posted June 3, 2020 Sometimes dents from damage don't pop back out with heat if the damaged spot is deep enough, or if it has been there too long so that the vinyl doesn't "remember" the previous shape. When that happens, you either have to live with it or sand it out. My cat damaged one of my heads, and sanding would have damaged the faceup so I chose to live with it. But a spot on the chin could probably be sanded out without damaging the faceup. Mine was near the eye. It's up to you, of course.
