Concerning F3 frame & DDdy

I'm debating to get a new DD. Would be looking at one of the standard ones as none of the limited editions really stand out to me. I have a DDS Sailor Moon and like her body decently and have a couple smart dolls. I'm debating between Towa and Karin. I like the fact that Karin is a DDS but her face seems really similar to Sailor Moons. Towa would be completely different than what I have but she is on a DDdy body, and I'll be honest...those big boobs scare me a bit lol. I do love her curvaceous body, but I don't want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe for one doll. I know some stuff from Doll Delights would fit her though. I've also heard not so great things about the new F3 frame. Is it really that bad? Karin is on the F3 frame, and I could buy Towa on a body without it. I know I could buy a doll and a new body, but I don't want to drop that kind of cash and have to deal with selling a body (pain in the butt). What are your experiences with the F3 frame, DDdy compared to different DD bodies. My birthday is coming up and thought maybe this could be a present to myself.

I have issues with f3, but thery're all aesthetic (and not really a function of the frame but rather changes Volks made in the vinyl skin), but I'm a weirdo.

In terms of frame function, adjustments and durability it's at least as good and probably better than the old frame.

At this point I'd never recommend the old bodies to anyone unless they fully understand what they're getting into. The old bodies and all parts for them are discontinued, meaning once Volks sells out of the parts they still have, the only replacements will be on Mandarake or other aftermarket sources. Volks is already out of some parts for all three body types.

I can't say much about DDdy as I don't like the body at all so don't own one, other than to mention most clothing made for regular DD/DDS won't fit; some of the stuff that's for L bust will. No pants or shorts actually sized for DD will fit.

Maybe I don't take a lot of time looking for doll issues unless I have one, but I never heard bad things about f3 frame. Maybe only the higher price than the older version.

I have both and in my experience, it's better than the normal DD III frame. I have tried different poses, trying to completely explode its mobility and limitations and there are no signs of cracks nor broken joints. In fact, the wrists and the ankles have more posability because the extra jointed points. Also the joints are adjustable so you don't need to worry about loosed joints

About the DDdy bust, yeah, I totally agree. It's a problem I tried to get used to when I bought my first DDdy, but I couldn't. They're too big for my tastes, so recently I had to modify a DD bust that could fit. It was hard at the beggining because I thought I was going to make a mistake modifying the bust. Luckily, things turned out pretty well and I couldn't be more than satisfied with the results.

That problem aside, you won't struggle buying clothes if you look for different websites. As you said, dolldelights is one good option but there are more. Fore example dollremi https://www.dollremi.store/?cat=all, alicecollections http://acbjd.com, and dollhearts https://dollheart.net/en/

I have a few F3 dolls, and the only real beef I have with them is that the frame sometimes needs some tightening right when they arrive. Right now my Jeanne is pretty floppy too, and she wasn't when I got her. The upside is I can just tighten the screws where with a friction based frame once it wears down you need to buy a new part.

As far as aesthetics go I think there are some improvements at the shoulders and hips because the parts sit farther in. I can't really describe the ankle bit that @cfx doesn't like but the gap in the plastic is a visible difference from the DDIII to be sure. It just bothers me less than having the shoulders and thighs jutting out too far at the joint the way they do on the DDIII.

I cut it slowly from the lower part with an exacto knife until it fit with the DDdy lower torso. Always trying to preserve the original form it had before the mod.

I'm tempted to do it myself or at least make my husband do it...lol. Forgive my noobness, but what body DD is the bust you modded for, a regular dollfie dream? sister? Sorry, still learning

It's a L shapely bust so I'm sure all the other sizes for DD could fit too. Now, I don't own a DDS so I can't tell you if those parts fit.

Thank you, just wanted to be sure! I only have a DDS so I don't know the other body types well.

I took a garbage picture but I did this mod on my DDdyF3 too. lol


Since I had a spare M-Bust, I decided to trim the bottom of it.
I would suggest angling the knife to bevel the inside edge of the bust itself. A 90° angle cut kinda sticks out.
The bevel makes the edge less noticeable, and mimics the OEM parts a little better. (See pic below)

I think most of the questions have already been answered, but if anyone has questions don't hesitate to ask me.

DDS-M?

Yes, a DDS M or L bust also works for this mod. One of my girls uses a DDS M bust on a DDdy body, because that's the one that I had as a spare.

 @Subaru shared a good example with DDS. So I think my pictures are not clear enough showing DD mod. 

I took some extra with my average cellphone, just in case.

Oh yeah another thing I did was sand the edges too.
I couldn't get a nice clean cut so I used 400 grit sand paper to smooth things out.

This helps cuz I want Towa really bad and those boobs... man ...I'm so going to do this!!!!
