DDdy x SmD Hybrid: Trial #2 SUCCESS!!

First version of this hybrid is here.

So, I decided to combine my favorite doll parts from the vinyl world, SmD Torso with DDdy thighs!! The first trial was basically only to see if this hybrid was possible and I am proud to say that is it!!

Parts that I used:

• SmD Torso w/ Push Up bust
• DDdy Thighs
• DD Everything else. Lol

This hybrid also used the F3 Frame.

Full Body

  

 

Upper Body

With the cut of the SmD bust combined with the new ball torso joint of the F3 frame, you can get a decent amount of torso movement! I didn't take any pictures, but this is a large gap in the front if you lean the torso back super far. It can definitely be hidden depending on the camera angle and pose.

    

 

Lower Body

The DDdy thighs fill the leg holes on the SmD torso perfectly!! However, in terms of aesthetics, you can only move the thigh so far forwards before you get some pretty large and ugly gaps in the back. Additionally, because of the shape of the leg holes, you can't extend the leg directly backwards at all. It will follow the curve of the booty and go sideways instead of straight back. While you don't get gapping if you extend the leg backwards, the top of the thigh pops out and it looks kinds of weird. Majority of these problems can be hidden with a loose fitting skirt/dress though!

    

   

 

Overally, I am IN LOVE with this hybrid. I've always favored SmD torso over the DD ones because I think it looks a bit more natural but also I wanted some thiccy thighs.

That is so cool how you took pieces from different bodies to make something that I s unique and exactly what you wanted.  Congrats on that!  I think it looks really cool.  Now I wanna see pics with a head on it!    How does it sit down?  Can it cross the legs?  How does it kneel?

I shoved Stephani's head onto the body just for you!! 

She can barely cross her legs, but it's doable with a stand. I was able to bend the ankle so that her feet were flat on the ground. Its a very cute pose actually!!

 

 

Since she has DD F3 legs, she kneels further than the SmD legs. However, she can't sit all the way back on her heels. I think the further is a 45 degree angle?? 

  

 

Lastly, she is able to sit pretty well! Even with the boy shorts and her thighs in the way. She can also cross her feet while sitting, but you have to position the feet in a certain way to hold the legs. She can't cross her leg over the other however. 

  

 

Also, I've very annoyed that her shins are so much lighter than the rest of her body! That's what I get for buying her in parts I guess. Thanks for that Volks 😑

That is so great that she poses nicely like that!  Thanks so much for all the wonderful photos of her.    I think you have a winner right there.

She looks so good! I wonder if you could put DDdy thighs on a SMD body? Maybe it'd be worth a try if somebody out there has the parts. I know the frames aren't compatible but the shell maybe? I like the DDdy body so I'll probably get some in the future anyways (just, the bust has to be modded 😅) but since Smart Doll legs are pretty skinny, it'd be nice to see if there's some options for mods.

Congrats, she's really cute! The thing that always kinda put me off DDs was how "unnatural" the torso appears to me (though I've come to understand it's made that way to look good in clothing apparently) and I've always loved the SMD look but their legs can be a bit... twiggy. I'm not sure if I'd go into the effort of getting the pieces for this hybrid but it's definitely promising! Your girl is very cute and the hybrid looks really good!

Yeah the hardest thing is getting the SmD lower torso in milk because the Chaos packs are completely random. I would imagine its next to impossible now since Milk bodies are no longer produced, which means no miscasts to be placed in the Chaos packs anymore. I definitely got lucky with my timing!

SmDs legs are longer than DD legs. You would definitely have to shorten the SmD frame first. But aside from that, I can't think of anything else that would stop this kind of mod from working. 🤔

I'm sure an SmD owner can provide more insight than I can tho

With the frame chaos bundles, I wonder if it’s possible to find some extra parts for that? I mean, I have DDs (not DDdy), so I could try it without modding and just see how the length of the thigh looks.

Forgive me for resurrecting this thread from almost a month ago, but I'm curious: Did you have the entire F3 skeleton already from a full DD, or did you purchase the parts separately? I'm wondering how the chest and waist parts of the skeleton attach inside the SmD torso if it's the latter.

Sorry for the late reply! But yes, I did soley use the F3 frame. The only SmD parts used are the lower torso shell and the bust. The F3 frames fits very well inside the SmD Torso and due to the torsos structure, allow for excellent posing! In order to get the torso f3 parts, you do have to put the Upper torso frame and well as the DD waist.

Did you accidentally buy SWS instead of Flesh shin parts? That’s one thing I noticed when looking. But I LOVE it. SO cute with that head too.

I wish I respected the man enough to buy a SmD. I may buy one from someone else who bought it and needs money. I don’t want to support someone who is as horrible a person as him. It sucks so bad because of how truly beautiful SmDs are. 
 

You made her even better, IMO. So many of the issues you showed in photos can be fixed with proper coverage and outfits or poses. And it really makes an extremely unique figure I haven’t ever seen on a BJD.

Also I definitely understand your sentiment regarding SmD as a whole. However, the dolls are beautiful and I definitely recommend the 2nd hand market! It's pretty volatile and with milk being discontinued, prices have gone up for Milk parts. 

With that being said, I still think it's a worthy endeavor. For bust parts, there are 3rd party vendors that make silicone or 3D printed busts in the milk skin tone! 

What a great idea, and how awesome that it works! The proportions look really amazing. I tried DD hands on SmD but never imagined something so ambitious as hybriding entire limbs and torso.

Do you have more pictures of her? Dressed up differently? I’m seriously curious to see. I love making custom dolls. I’d love to actually copy this, even… I really love the proportions.

Awesome! Killer thighs! Hahaha. Love this type of clever and innovative thought processing. Really unique and it TRULY shows how we REALLY make these dolls our OWN—individual unicity, despite being the “same” doll in most cases, and beautifully portrays the owners’ own personality and taste. 
 

Thank you again for sharing. Just another reminder of why I got into this hobby to start with.
