DDS Kizuna Ai

She looks incredible! I have neither the budget nor the need (I don't have any attachment to the character, I just think she's cute and has a good design), but I am so so so excited for those who are looking to get her!!

Oh no... T_T I love her. I've been very strict to stick to MDD as. I love focusing on one size.. But I might have to break my rule for this one. :< She's too cute!

Like some of the folks here I personally haven't watched any of her videos/Virtual YTtubers and only know her from the memes. 

 

However, I'm gonna wait for any further photos (and details...) of her as I really like her general face/appearance (even in scales/figures). Face-wise, generally I'm not a fan of the wide gaps on the eyelashes but in the picture posted in the tweet- Seems like this might be an exception. + I love Arle's sculpt so I might be slightly biased in that as she does look like an older version of her here 😂 Also curious about the outfit but if A.I Gamer is an option... Might at least go after that as it's pretty neat.

Short answer: Boobies. Ai has them, the DDP does not at the moment (still only a S-bust option).

Also the general posture of the DDP is a bit more childlike, while the DDS definately a bit more grown up, so in that sense the DDS makes more sense.

 

Volks main page has now a wider shot of the twitter teaser. Looks like the outfit is going to be urethane coated shinyness in general... which is odd, since the 3D models have had a matte hue.

And I was also looking at the outfit and thinking: isn't that the same stuff that keeps deteriorating? 🤔 when I look up pictures of Kizuna I myself would've made the clothes with cotton probably. But maybe they think this material fits the "idol" style more? 🤔😅

@Ylse Yup, it's going to be mostly pleather - not good. I can tell from her headband. If anyone wanted to keep Kizuna in-character, I'd avoid that stuff like the plague. Hell, it's why I didn't buy the Sailor Moon Pullips, because I know how quickly that stuff deteriorates, and the thinner it is, the faster it happens. So, rip Kizuna's headband tie.

It's so bad I make a point of not buying doll shoes/accessories that use pleather.  That means I avoid a lot of cute ones, but oh well.

It's sad because the outfit looks cute and a lot of time goes into making that so I would rather it hold up well for a long time and not just fall apart >.< But there is hope for a second outfit if they make that! Just have to hope/pray/make a sacrifice that it also won't be made in pleather LOL

The fabric choice is definitely very strange.  I wonder if it's something that's really cheap for them to keep in stock at a consistent colour or something.  Even the use of something like a satin type fabric (like Hatsune Miku's shirt/tie/skirt are made from) would have been a better choice than pleather.  You can even see that the sailor colour is made from a normal cotton-type fabric, but everything else is made from pleather for mysterious reasons.

From the start though I found it very strange that they made Pyoko-Pyoko from this pleathery material and not just a silicone or rubbery-type single mold accessory piece.  Even if the headband had been hard ABS plastic, they could have made the top part from a soft material so it could accurately 'bounce!'  The choice to use shiny pleather is just odd.

Actually, after some re-looking into things, the figures of Ai I found on amiami featuring the normal and formal outfit have a glossy surface to them, at least more shiny than matte .. so perhaps not so weird after all.

Amusingly the nendo of Ai comes with normal cloth clothes ... which isnt really normal for a nendo to begin with.

There are perks with working with laminated fabrics, anybody who's tried to sew something with satin will know what a pain in the butt it can be. Although I agree the fine satin that the miku defaults were done with would have also given a nice semi gloss sheen.

as far as throwing the toys out because of the pleather ... it may, or it may not be of the self destructing kind. as i've mentioned in some of the threads that deal with this, it really depends on the quality of the fabric, and/or the climate you live in.

I've got some old NynJ55 items that have been played with and havent shown any signs of degrading, my original DD1 mirai outfit is still in good shape (the only worry with those are the brass eyelets corroding), but on the other hand I had a pair of third party hotpants shred themselves by just putting them on the first time, because they were made with a extremely thin layered lamination.

As for the ribbon ... not having ever really been that into Ai lore, I dont think it ever was mentioned to be rubber ... just being a typical ribbon that just happens to be bouncy, and directly linked to Ai's persona -- to the point that she became manically depressed without it if I recall correct.

I only know of Kizuna Ai due to her Nendoroids but wow, she makes a very cute Dollfie!! ❤️

As others have said, she reminds me a bit of Arle. Looking forward to seeing more of her.

Oh yes, Pyoko-Pyoko is definitely just a normal ribbon, but it bounces quite a lot and (at least to me) has a very soft matte look, even in most of her figures, so it's just strange to me that they'd make it from pleather and not something softer/bouncier.  I'm sure it was done to keep colour/aesthetic consistent throughout the outfit, but I'm still a little surprised they didn't want it to be something with more movement, for accuracy's sake.

It's how you say 'Tubers in Japanese, like YouTubers. 'Chu' for Tu and 'Ba' for Ber.

OccultBeast already answered it, but it's a further phonetic shortening of how you would say vtubers (buichubas) in Japanese. I can't help associate this silly word with them.

I'm not seeing the sameface, she actually looks more alive than the other recent DDs to me. Pretty cute!

The more I look at her, the more I think they didn't get the right expression.

Found some more on Twitter. The thingie that they do with adding colour to the eye part of the face-up is done here too and you can see it a bit in these pictures. Looks to be pink which fits with the rest of her.

Gosh, her sculpt is so cute! I'm tempted to get her and just sell her fullset after lol. 

Not a Kizuna Ai fan myself, but I really like the face sculpt. Though that might be because she's like an older Arle as everyone is pointing out.

I had little interest in her until it was pointed out that she looks like Arle. I may try to go for her as I have Arle and it would be cute to have them as sisters.
