DDIII Cracks

Ok, Nelli's (DDS Marisa) left leg flops so I might have to use your instructions to fix her at some point.

I didn't know they already made DDIII bodies, when did that happen?

So far, it looks like my fix has worked. Time will tell how long it will hold

They only come as part of character models so far to my knowledge, not as the plain old vanilla body. Just as well, I was waiting to see why they haven't put out the DDIII bodies yet, this thread is a pretty damn good reason. But I would much rather a delay than have to deal with repairs after buying, even if it means holding off on some more adoptions >.<;

 

I'm hoping they have issues fixed and stock the bodies before I go to JP in May, but thats probably hoping for a lot...

I agree, I'm hoping that if the Sabers do get a U.S. delay it will be so that their bodies can be improved. I for one am not good at repairing anything. Needless to say, if my Saber Alter 2 broke soon after I got her, Volks would have one unhappy customer to deal with!

Seems like Volks' new bodies have so many problems with cracks.... the DDS and DD3 so far I've heard of so many cases of cracks

UPDATE: I sent an email to Volks about the cracked thigh parts and got a reply saying that i got defected parts and they will ship me replacement parts. I just got my package today, and the joint looks the same. I thought it would be thicker like Ms Mariko. Oh well at least i got spare parts I won't change the defected parts yet as my fix is still holding.

This is making me nervous about my Millhiore who isn't even here yet.

 

If I'm reading it correctly in the link you posted the person reinforced it with fiberglass sheets and then had to cut down the sockets so they would fit?

Yes this was definitely already clear. But, since this was brought back up, they have a similar internal skeleton. The DDS one is smaller, but they're based on the same design.

So... if the bigger version was cracking, the DDS might have the same structural issues.

 

But yes, I know they're different doll bodies. >_<

Excellent! At least they sent you replacements! From what I've seen with other people when they've had issues with something, Volks has been pretty bad about sending much at all. It's nice to know they took care of you this time.

 

And I don't blame you for not swapping out the repaired parts yet. I'm doing the same thing with my DDS upper torso part for Mamimi. I repaired her shoulder tubes and since they are still holding, they will stay in until they break again. That way I'll have a backup part ready.

My DDIII body (originally from Moe ver 2) has fallen victim to shoulder cracking. Working on a repair right now plus taking photos. I really do hope that they'll fix these issues in the later releases!

That is terrible, PlasticFantastic. It is like a worldwide epidemic.

We devised a fix but I'm curious to see how well it holds up. We drilled some new holes in the armature and used small zipties. I'll try to get some photos up this week so you guys can see. The cracks are too fine for a glue or epoxy to work properly since they can't seep in so this seemed like a good solution to the issue.

Did you use any epoxy glue to glue the zip ties to the frame?

I think we did, I'll have to double check with my head DD mechanic. He fixes all the girls! XD

Sounds like this is a common problem then. At least that makes me feel like I didn't handle my Moe too roughly. I'd like to see your repairs, when you get a chance.

All I did with my Mamimi was swap out her bust piece one time and BOTH her shoulder tubes cracked wide open. I never handle my girls roughly so I really had no clue how this happened to her. SO no, it's not just you or you being rough.

 

Unlike PF's problem, Mamimi's tubes were cracked all the way thru so if I slid a writing pen into the shoulder tube, I could make them open up to insert epoxy in between the pieces with a toothpick.

 

I'm also interested in seeing your pics PF. Any info we can get on fixes and such will benefit everyone here.

I don't think this is what's causing the delay. I think Volks received more orders than they were expecting. I'm curious how many they're making of each tbh..

Bleh, this thread is making me consider just making my 4 new girls out of DDII bodies instead despite the reduced poseability... because I do play with them quite a bit, and I know I won't have the ability to repair them if something breaks...

Nothing wrong with doing that. You could go with the body type you already know to start with, while Volks works the kinks out of the new design. That also saves you some money versus buying a bunch of Yukino dolls for the DDIII she's on. It's always possible to swap it later if you change your mind and want the posability instead.

The only issue will come from putting Saber Extra's armour on. The connections in the armature in the DDIII are very different from the DDII.

That's a good point. Saber Extra is likely to have separate armor feet, just like Saber Lily, isn't she. I recall someone (was that you also, PF?) posting about how Lily's DDII armor feet did not go so well with a DDIII body. The reverse would then also be true for Saber Extra.

It wasn't me who did that, but I do have Saber Lily and her armour feet go directly into the armature, so Saber Extra will be the same way.
