DDIII Cracks

Huh... I just noticed a line in the email VolksUSA sent me about exchanging Millhiore's stained parts.

 

"When disassembling, please take care with her thigh and shoulder joints especially as they carry a lot of stress and can be damaged more easily."

 

Which, is interesting.

 

I wonder if there's a way to distribute the stress load on the skeleton that wouldn't sacrifice the range of motion.

Hey all, I'm new here and this is my first time with DD's. I just received my Yukino V.2 yesterday and almost immediately noticed something wrong with the arm. It was really loose and so I pulled it out to discover that the mechanism in which the arm attaches itself to the torso had completely snapped off. I contacted Volks immediately and they are replacing the part for free and paying for my shipping of the broken part that I had to send to them. Anyway, here are some pictures of what actually happened...

This looks like the same problem a lot of us have sadly experienced with the new body. If you check the "Care and Repairs" forum here, PlasticFantastic has a repair method for this type of break. You might want to try it out and keep the placement as back-up when it arrives.

@denaliwind: Sad to see that happen and glad to hear you're getting a replacement. I suggest you try to fix it and keep the replacement from Volks as a backup.

Is there anybody here on the board who did not have problems with DD3???

This thread makes me nervous. Now I'm hoping that my "late" entry into DD3-generation with Haruka and Lucy will be post-patch.

I got my replacement parts (DDS though) today too! The pelvis is different. It's harder vinyl, the pegs have grooves, and they shift up and down.

Probably cracked. I'd have to remove it to be sure. I'll have to epoxy this one, the warranty's up.

I am glad the Yukino v2 part is being replaced, but I am curious where Volks came up with the part. They said they have been out of replacement shoulder/torso pieces for a while now and so is Japan. They are not expecting any in their next shipment either.

 

That alone should tell them something.

 

So my Hina and Asami both sit holding one of their arms.

 

This is not an inexpensive hobby. I don't understand why or how Volks thinks this is acceptable. I guess it is because we accept it. *cry A 2 week warranty is unreal.

Perhaps it is too early, but has anyone heard something (good or wrong) about DDdy III body?

I don't know that any other doll company is better in terms of having a warranty on broken pieces. Now, of course that doesn't excuse them not fixing the problem.

 

They need to solve this engineering problem. It's reminding me a little too much of the 360 RRoD right now.

All these reports about breakage make me feel uneasy since I have a Saber Extra coming in soon.

I wish/hope the long delay is them improving the qc issue, but I doubt it.

Kind of disappointing spending the entire day trying to get a beach outfit sewn right and 'oh look, there's a crack'

 

I sent an email out to volks with a couple of pictures that have the cracks clearly visible so we'll see what happens.

 

On the upside, the bikini top I made turned out super-sexy.

Oh my, Tieren! I would be so sad if it happen to my doll... I wish Volks will resolve it pretty soon! Poor dollie

It's a good thing you discovered this before your 14 days were up. After that they won't replace any parts so in a way at least on the upside it happened sooner rather than later. Do hope they'll send you replacement parts quickly!

Volks responded to me pretty quickly. I'm sending them the upper body frame and the upper leg frame and they're going to reimburse me for the cost of shipping. Now I understand why they included with my dollfie a printout with detailed instructions on how to take everything apart.....

 

It was pretty emotional tonight. It went something like:

 

Yuki: *Sniff* Daddy, why are you sending me away? You promised I could stay here forever!

Me: I'm not sending you away honey, I'm just going to make a few incisions and remove half of your skeleton and...

Yuki: Waaaaaaah!!!!

Awww. You'll have to make sure she feels loved when Volks gets all of her pieces to you and you put her back together.

So I had 5 outfits and a bunch of shoes arrive in the mail today and I hadn't made it to the post office yet so I just _had_ to have Yuki try some of them on.

 

It was all going well until I noticed that I managed to crack the other arm joint. I think I did it by accidentally swapping arms. Which means that one arm is definitely larger than the other. I'll check it out with some callipers later this week and use some sandpaper on the larger arm as suggested earlier in this thread.

 

It's probably good this happened before I sent it off to Volks. Kind of disturbing that 3/4 limb joints have cracked. I'm wondering if I swap legs the last one will crack too.

I had the problem with DDIII body of Moe. The shoulder joint was broken and we had to use a screw and superglue to fix it. Looks okay now, but it upsets me considering her price

I have some coming in too. You could always try to do what I will do if I decide I don't like the DDIII body or am too scared it'll break - you can buy DDII bodies when they get back in stock with Volks and then sell off the DDIII bodies. You can probably break even or only be out a very small amount of money if you do this.
