Caisha Posted August 3, 2020 I discovered BJD's about 5-6 years ago, give or take. I wanted to sew clothes for something non-human but more cooperative than the cat. Classic porcelain childlike dolls creep me out a bit, and I didn't care for the aesthetics of American Girl dolls or dolls I saw in the toy section of stores. I was idly browsing eBay to see what else might be out there when I saw a BJD. She was so delicate and pretty! I'd never heard of them, and promptly started researching. I got my first one a few months later (directly from the manufacturer, not from eBay!). I thought about getting a vinyl doll at that point, but rejected it due to fears of staining. At some point, I decided I wanted a doll to travel with, so I could take pics of her on vacation. After fiddling around with various sizes of resin dolls, I wound up looking into vinyl dolls again. I decided not to worry so much about staining - after all, I had Barbies as a kid in the 70's/80's, and they never stained. Adult me can be careful with her toys! This led to my purchasing a Parabox Aki head and Obitsu 24cm body. And...I had a new favorite doll. That was almost a year ago, and I still just adore her. I have not taken her on vacation yet because...uh... *waves hands*. I'd wanted a larger doll for a while, but never found one that really jumped out at me. Several months ago, I impulse-purchased an Obitsu Haruka head from JunkySpot. She needed a body, and I kinda hated the Obitsu 50cm body's hips. That led me here, and to deciding whether I wanted a DD or other body for her. Eventually I ordered a VMF50 from Mandarake (and tossed the head in a box)...and then I had to get another because she needed a friend. They're lovely, and I'm happy to have them.
