What's the most expensive wig you've ever bought?

I recently saw a gorgeous wig, only to realize that it was 7,800 yen (like $78) and die inside.  So I was inspired to start this discussion! I think the priciest wig I've ever bought was $30. I prefer to buy cheaper wigs so I can have a lot of options for my dolls.

Yeah, the most I've ever spent on a doll wig is 3000 yen. I get mine from Mandarake and like them a lot! They have been consistently better quality than the Volks wigs I have owned or handled, and imo comparable to or better than the Smart Doll wigs I own.

My cheapest wig was made from old t-shirt material and leftover yarn, but it's super cute so 🤷‍♂️

$28-30 for me probably. If we’re talking about wig related purchases, it’s when I bought same type of wig seven times because I have multiple dolls of the same character haha

I spent $76 on my doll Emma's red wig from SmartDoll with shipping, but only because I needed it for what I was going for, and nobody else had something similar at the time.  I wouldn't spend that much again.  I think all of my blonde wigs for Samus were around 25-30 US.  I think that's a fair price. 

When I was super new to the hobby, and I hadn't even discovered the previous forum yet, I built my second girl, a custom 01 MDD. I bought her wig from a store I forget the name of in HK. It was a Volks wig, and I'm pretty sure it was one of the type that you had the ability to buy if you had bought the Volks News, so it wasn't a regular lineup wig, and was no longer available. I also didn't know about Mandarake at the time, either. I think I paid about $125 for it. I absolutely would not do this again, both because I know of far more options now, and because my finances have changed quite a lot since then. But I don't regret that purchase, because my girl still uses that wig, and it really defines her appearance. There is a somewhat similar wig made by another company for a lot less, but it's not quite as full and fluffy looking, so it would change her look.

Most expensive wig I ever bought was DD Ruler's.  It was $1,090.  It came with a bonus doll and outfit set.  And a flag and a stick.

But seriously, the most I've spent on a single wig is about $50 for a Volks wig.  All the others I've bought have ranged from about $15 to $30.

 

 

For just a wig by itself, I think I paid $100 for a spare Kanu wig and that was considered cheap since they normally sell over $150.  If you count buying an outfit set that comes with a wig then I've paid $200 for the school uniform and wig set for Mikuru Asahina and I paid $240 for the Ribbon Girl set for Miku.

I’ve seen fancy wigs on Etsy that cost several hundred dollars. Usually these had jewelry woven into them, and the hairstyles were very intricate. 

The replacement wig for Miku clocks in at $110, so that's my high water mark. There are a couple of her outfits that might trump that just for the wig - infinity or append perhaps. (if Volks ever makes them)

I think the most I spent was $60. It's interesting to me that some doll wigs become much more expensive then human wigs. 

The most I've spent for a wig was $45, and that was recent. Other than that, most of my wigs are homemade, or cost around the $15-$30 range. Unless I have a very specific idea in mind, I don't think I'll ever go much above that.... (but in saying so, I may be jinxing myself ^^")

The most spent on a wig was $43 on a chara~specific styled wig

but on the flip side, the most sold a wig for was $60 for exactly the same reason (although to be fair it was a Volks collab chara official thing)

48€ with shipping for a Pengin ponytail wig

And the cheapest 200 yen without shipping at Mandarake used short used section.

$60 including shipping for a DoubleKWorkshop wig a month or two back (Shipping was half of it as I had to get express shipping, otherwise it probably would've still been sitting there.) Cheapest wig I've gotten was like. $20 from Manda, not including shipping but it was mixed in with a few other things. I've been interested in trying to make my own on occasion, but never got around to it as (for the most part, with some digging) I've been able to find what I want in the end. Maybe in the future though? 🤔

$26 is the most I’ve paid for a wig from nine9style, which is where almost all my wigs are from. My other wigs are from a Etsy shop and I paid $20 for the cheapest wig.

Most expensive was also Pengin workshop for me, about $46 and the cheapest was $14 from MUZI on Amazon (which due to an internet connection problem I accidentally ordered twice lol) 

My most expensive wig is the Sheryl Nome default wig I got at Manda for around $65 aftet shipping. Fate looks AMAZING in it though.

I don't think I've gone under $20 for a wig myself, but I'm a bit of a wig snob. Well, unless you count the wigs Agatha's first owner tossed in with her as a bonus, but I only used/liked one of them.

Recently I noticed that all Smartdoll wigs are priced at 8000 yen. eek! I like fancy wigs but I usually try to get them at a discount. I have a couple of fortyish dollar Volks wigs that I got for just $20-25 secondhand (nice!). They're very good quality so I can see the temptation to buy! There's one wig I've been eyeing but it's like $45 so who knows if I'll ever work up the nerve to actually buy it. 

I paid about $80 plus shipping years ago (when I just had resin BJDs) for a OOAK hand-dyed mohair wig, from someone who had a brief but very popular mohair wig business. Unfortunately, he stopped making them after getting ripped off one too many times, but he did some really beautiful mohair wigs.  

 

Hmm, I believe my most expensive wig purchase was also a Smart Doll wig at 7,500yen. I usually buy wigs that are in the 20-30usd range.
