Ear piercing staining?

Recommended Posts

Elia

I recently pierced all of my Sailor Senshi ears and this got me thinking. Is there a chance that the metal earring pins will cause a reaction with the vinyl and stain the ears?

The reason I'm asking this is because I've been collecting fashion dolls for a long time and they are notorious for staining from metal jewelry. It's not impossible to treat but can be difficult depending on the vinyl type. I would rather prevent it if I can and perhaps replace metal pins with plastic.

So, has anyone who had their dolls ears pierced for a long time notice any change? Or did any sort of metal jewelry caused anyone problems?

Thanks 🥰

I seem to remember something about this from a while back.  I think someone stated that the metal some of the earrings are made of can stain the vinyl.  I think it popped up in regards to eyeglasses too.  Seems like there were some pictures too.  It wasn't like a normal dye stain, but a much more localized thing.

No direct experience on the matter myself.

I don’t know about the metal parts staining, but the plastic parts that come with the earrings that Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars have could potentially stain. I don’t think I’ve had any issue with Mars’ earrings, but Sailor Moon’s are made of the same material as the tiara, and that is known to stain.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

It seems like a good possibility. I know if I wear a pair of silver earrings long enough (or sometimes gold), the metal oxidizes and gets green where my skin is. This is my same fear for leaving metal jewelry on a doll for too long. I don't have experience with earrings leaving actual stains though.

Could you coat the backs/posts of earrings with a thin layer of clear nail polish, perhaps?  That's an old trick I used to use thanks to being allergic to every metal aside from surgical steel.  Not sure if it would work for dolls or if the nail polish itself would pose a separate risk to the vinyl, though.

That makes me nervous 😖 I will definitely keep an eye on the piercings.

That's a good point, I will make sure the plastic part doesn't touch Usagi's/Rei's face just in case. I might put some tape between the earring and ear too. Tiaras already caused me enough trouble 😅

Thank for your reply! It definitely wouldn't happen overnight but if there is any chance I might look for alternatives.

Excellent idea! I might give it a go and see what happens 😊 It could require re-applying once it wears out but that's not too bad.

Thank you for replies everyone!

I covered the back of mine with tape, and haven’t had any issues. I don’t leave them on long though.

That happened with Takane’s necklace, and no stain remover has worked on it.

I did that too after I learned my lesson.
