Your favorite stories

A lot of the time, most of what I see in the SmD section of this forum is just... a lot of complaining and negativity. Honestly, it kinda brought me down for a while, and I feel like it might be bringing other newbies down as well.

So I'm curious, what are your absolute best memories with your Smart Dolls? What was it like getting your first one, opening them up, and getting to finally have them right there in front of you? Did you have a character in mind for them or did you "let them build themselves" as characters? Where they official characters that you liked from shows, or where they original?

What made you fall in love with your collection? What makes you keep collecting despite the annoyances and stresses of the hobby? Who are your favorite dolls and why? What are you looking forward to doing most with your dolls?

Let's spread some positivity here. Maybe your story might make someone's day or make choosing their first/next doll a little easier. Share stories, photos, and memories with us all.

Funny story, I didn’t expect to end up with any of the colab   smart dolls. I was just happy with my two cocoa girls. I like having my own character as dolls, but after getting them they became new characters separate from the anime they come from. I sacrifice my wallet and summon Mika Jougasaki,and Spike Spiegel!

Even though I'm snarky, I often mention how much I love my Smart Doll. Unlike her resin brothers and sisters, it feels much safer to keep her out beside me. She's so beautiful.

I gotta get some projects done, and then I'm gonna start sewing for her. I really hope I can up my game, so she has some cute outfits. :3

(She told me her name a while back. I won't say what it is because it's fairly unusual. My dolls always kinda name themselves, inasmuch as I need them finished and to have a good look at them to pull a name out of the air)

It was so magical unboxing her ;o; I really hope I can get some friends for her. I did originally say I only needed one, but I kinda want more.

Cool idea for a thread! Thanks for starting this. My fav stories are:

- how I met Danny in Tokyo in Oct 2014. Mirai had only just been released and I was able to meet up with Danny to pick her up at Culture Japan. It was so cool to talk to him and learn more about how dolls were made. 

- getting SmD Kurenai. She is one of my most treasured dolls. I love how I was able to bring Aisha to life through this doll. 

- thanks to SmD, I met one of my best friends in the Belgian BJD community. So I'm grateful to SmD for bringing us together. 

My first SmD was Nami. When Danny announced that he was doing a One Piece collab my interest was piqued, once he released pictures I was smitten-- and I'm not even a Nami fan lol. Before Nami was released I was actually debating on buying Miho because she reminded me of Volks Yukiho haha.

I have 5 SmD but Nami is by far my favourite. She is one of the two dolls I try to bring to all my local meets. 

I really enjoyed going to the SmD store with my friends when I went to Japan. Seeing new releases from all angles was exciting& rummaging through the outlet bins was also fun. 

I'm hoping to see more SmD collabs. I am also looking forward to eventually seeing my local bjd friends haha 

When I got Viktor, my Eiji Kai, I had him shipped to my parents' with the intent of opening him when I visited for Christmas--he was my Christmas gift to me lol.

I told my mom to inspect him to make sure there weren't obvious defects, and that after she could put him back in the box for later.

Instead, she put his clothes in a bag, and sat the doll himself under the tree in his boxers, holding a red bow over his crotch. I love my mom.

I have a favorite story every time I get Kizuna, Chitose and the gang out to shoot another episode of their photostory. Having them adventure all around my apartment building is always great fun.

The shoot in Atlanta several years back for the con that never happened and their trip to meet Baldylox's troop are two of my all time favorites. It's always a blast taking them on trips, especially when it's to meet other owners.

That was a really great trip!  I had tons of fun and I admit that getting to meet you, Kizuna and Chito was a bit of a geek out for me.  And of course having you and them here was awesome as well.  After all this Covid crap is over we seriously need to hang out again!

I have a fun story from the first time I brought my Kanata to my lab at university. The other students and my professor already knew I'm into dolls, from my desktop backgrounds and as I also had brought a Pure Neemo with me some time before.

When I arrived in the morning, only one other student was there yet - focused on his computer. So I went to my desk, connected my notebook, popped out Kanata from my backpack, propped her up on some books, tidied her hair and posed her with her own tiny notebook. No reaction from the other student so far - he must've been pretty concentrated on what he's doing. Thus I start working myself.

Only after quite a while I heard the other student, gasping in surprise as he almost fell off his chair. He had turned around to ask me something and got startled by seeing a face next to me, before realizing a moment later that it was just a doll. He took this picture and sent it to everyone in the lab as a "forewarning" when they come in later.

From them on, I've brought a doll with me every once in a while and hope to do so in the future after the pandemic has calmed down.
