Yes... a Very ... Small ... Part of my Ivar system, that consists of: 18 pcs ~230cm uprights,  1 ~120cm upright, 5 custom length uprights, and only lord knows how many shelves, including several custom width/shaped pieces, that span continiously the four walls of one room, and a bit of another. (I believe have the receipts for most of it, but am a bit scared to tally it all up).

(Edit, also forgot I had 5 of the ~170cm uprights and x ammount of shelves in another room behind my photo stage)

There was one radio drama back in the day that had promotion material with a few of the umineko characters in Higurashi outfits, most notable Maria as Hanyuu.

however ... thinking back, Maria didnt get her Witch outfit, or anything else optional back in the day, so those might not be gauranteed after all.

I personally want Rika the most since she's my favourite, but I think Rena will be most likely to happen.

As somebody else already mentioned I think it would be a really good idea to release Mion with an optional outfit to turn her into Shion. I don't see them releasing both the twins as dolls since the base doll would be basically the same, so an optional outfit to have both would be a great solution. I really hope they'll think of doing this!

Oh my gosh! I still need to finish watching that! It looks really good and I've only seen the first episode, so I'm not going to actually read this thread to avoid spoilers(I'm aware it's pretty dark, this isn't like with The Promised Neverland that literally took me by surprise- nearly traumatized me lol), but I keep losing track of shows I haven't finished and Higurashi is kind of a classic I think? I really need to get back to it and this is a good reminder! I've been watching it dubbed for the nostalgia factor even though the dub I've found is... pretty terrible tbh. But dolls of the characters are really something I'd like to see! I caught a glimpse of @finnleo 's figure pic as I scrolled, maybe I'll look into searching for some merch if I get really into it.

Quick message to let everyone interested in “catching up” with the series in preparation for these dolls to NOT WATCH the currently airing “Higurashi Gou” if you have not seen both seasons the OG anime, read the sound novel or read the whole manga if you care about spoilers because the currently airing anime is a sequel and not a retelling.

Thanks for this! 🙏 I had been considering getting into it, having never watched/read any of the original stuff, and assumed the new one was just a remake like everyone else.  It's strange that they teased it as if it were a remake, and then waited until episode two? (I'm going off the wiki page for that) to reveal that it's actually a sequel.

Yeah the second episode spoils one of the largest sections of the original story... great as a bait and switch for veterans of the series but a lot of newcomers got spoiled because of the marketing and the character designer being quite popular for this airing.

I wholly recommend reading the manga if you’re looking for an adaptation that won’t take too long to finish and keeps the feeling of the sound novel really well. The sound novel is my favorite by far but it is very long, with each part taking 6-15 or so hours to read

I appreciate the recommendation!  I can definitely manage reading a manga series, but the sound novel seems like a Test of Will™ to overcome lmao  Maybe if I was still a teen with a lot of free time and an ability to focus 😂

Thanks for the advice Kotone, I was about to start watching it thinking it was an alternate story. I'll go check the first anime since it seems like it was a good one.

Super curious about the dolls and wonder if there will be any unsettling accessories like cleavers. 😆

I'm hoping for Rika and/or Hanyuu. Whoever it is though I hope they're cute! A beat up Satoko would be fun but that'd be too edgy for volks.

It looks like MDD Rena Ryugu is the other release this month.

I didn't expect an MDD verison of her but it feels so right lol

I also expected her to be a DDP, and am a little let down only because I really want them to do more DDP releases and thus make more DDP parts like busts/hands. But this actually kinda works re: the original art style and she’s really cute anyway. Love that she comes with the big knife.

I love Rena but she looks odd as an mdd. Maybe because I see Rika and Satoko as a better fit. Especially because that pose is from recent art style, and not the old one.

Her purchase details seem to be the same as Meiko’s, so it’s possible this will be another limited pre-order. 
 

GS/VS/VIP is required for her as well. 

@Monty Yeah, DDP is what I would've thought since other characters in the same age range with her were released in that size. I wonder why MDD was chosen? 

 

@BeyondTime It seems so. She's certainly not being released alongside her uniform on the 1st of May (though you'd think it would go on pre-order alongside her...). Glad I won't have to worry about missing out on her if she is, I'd be devo'd if I lost a lottery or missed her in a clickwar...

Speaking of ordering her, apparently her price is 64,900 yen with tax, and the uniform is 9,680 yen with tax. I sure hope she's a pre-order.... I don't wanna go broke for a doll lol

MDD ... Really?

I approove of the machete ... but the size I do not.

Default outfit is ok at least, though the sewing line on the collar sticks out a bit.

overall I would have imagined the middleschoolers in the class to be a minimum of DDS size comapred to the umineko dolls. but unless they are planning a chibi vinyl, or dipping into the Yo-SD side of things, I guess this rules out a future Hanyuu or Rika

One reason for the MDD size could be they wanted to give homage to the original chunky looking artwork of the visual novels ... which is a bit weird since Id imagine the console ports that have "Normal" looking artwork would be better known overall. 

 

 

But still a cute looking thing on a second look.

That was on the CD soundtrack, or Opening theme single. from a period artbook, something I remember scanning for an article I did on the music of the seires in a previous life.

Its actually now getting a bit annoying since the MDD chosen is also a S-bust, and not a L or M one, since in even the original chunky artwork (of which my chibi figures are based on) Rena has breasts.

I imagine the photo is meant to resemble the art for Gou since it is currently airing, but Rena likes to do this pose, apparently.

I actually ended up diving into a bit of a rabbit hole of imageboard searching that where did it all actually start with the burning dusk sky, the summer dress and machete. But running into a bit of a issue of the IP being older than most imagesites..

This combination does play a big part in rena's answer story, so no surprise there I guess...

Rika and Satoko are MDD size. Rena is taller than them. I agree DDS would probably be not quite right for her either, but she should have been a DDP. I guess you could always replace the body, but having to spend that extra money when she should have been a Pretty to start with feels bad ;w; Plus you never know if the head is actually gonna look good on a different body, so unless you already have that body and can try it out it's a gamble. 🙁

I imagine a few people will be trying her on a pretty but her outfit will probably not look right. Might have to make a new outfit from scratch. 

I absolutely love that we're finally getting a regular new MDD release but really wasn't expecting Rena as a mdd.... I was actually hoping they would release Rena and Rika, but now it looks like she'll be the only release which is a bit of shame. 

She is very cute, looks great, and I'll no doubt be getting her but just have mixed feelings about their choice. 

Just thinking she looks more like a very cute mini dressed up like Rena than a doll of Rena.

Hmmm...

Rena as MDD manages to match older artworks of her somewhat decently.

But I guess, this deconfirms any of the smaller characters (Rika, Satoko, Hanyuu) unless they are planning to do an even smaller body.

I'm also not blown away by her face. It's neither really looking like either her older or her more modern designs...
