nabeerain Posted November 21, 2020 Hi! I was wondering if when getting new hands it was better to get the hands with the internal frame or just the hands by themselves? My previous DDs were strung (DD1 and DD Rei) so I feel a little lost with my new girl (DDS). Thank you so much!
Monty Posted November 21, 2020 (edited) You only need the hands. The internal frame should already be on your doll. However, sometimes having multiple wrist points so you can pop the whole wrist joint out when changing hands is a lot easier, though - but its expensive and not actually necessary. I do really like that when Miku's option hands (with painted nails) were sold they came with the wrist joints which makes swapping them so much easier. I also find the hands on the default DDIII wrists difficult to change without using a hair dryer to soften the vinyl, which is why I ended up buying the newer wrist parts for most of my DDIII dolls (these wrists are standard with the f3 frame) as they are easier to change hands on. The peg thingy is a little different to the default DDIII. (As for DDII I don't know much about them, so I dont know if their wrist joints are the same as DDIII or not) Edited November 21, 2020 by Monty 1 *twitter*instagram*art*
nabeerain Posted November 21, 2020 @Monty thank you so much! I have Sailor Mercury DDS and her hands are supposed to be hands that can hold her wand, but I would actually prefer to have different ones all together (like fist because they are so flipping adorable). I think I may get the internal frame part as well because it sounds like it would be much easier!
OccultBeast Posted November 21, 2020 I personally like having multiple sets of the wrist pieces, because like Monty said, sometimes it's so much easier to just pop the whole thing out and pop another one in. It's also easier, in my opinion, to change the hands on the wrist piece while it's not on the doll, so having an extra pair of wrists is a plus there. I have two sets of DDIII wrist pieces, and one set of DD-f3 wrist pieces. I love that the DD-f3 wrists swivel, making it easier to pose and giving a lot more posing options without struggling, so that can also be a great reason to grab a new pair of wrist pieces if you don't already have that type! Also, I know most people use a hair dryer to soften the vinyl when trying to change hands easier, but I actually just shaved some of the vinyl out from inside the hand to allow them to slide on and off a lot easier. I noticed that there's a little 'lip' of vinyl inside the hand that often gets caught on the internal hand part when trying to pull it free, so I just used a sharp blade and shaved off little bits of vinyl at a time until it could slide on and off without me struggling. They still stay on securely (you still have to pull on them to remove them), but I don't ever need to heat the vinyl up anymore, so I can change them anywhere without wanting to die!
Dollvari Posted November 21, 2020 (edited) I have both DDII's & DDIII's the wrists are not interchangeable, but the hands are. You may need to warm up the vinyl as mentioned before. The standard DD3 wrists don't rotate like the new wrist on the DDf-3 ones. Also the wrists they sell separately are the rotating ones. nabeerain Posted November 21, 2020 Thank you both! I definitely want ones that swivel for maximum amount of range while posing, so hopefully they ones on the site will work (it is the hand internal frame for the DDS/DDf-3 body).
mayaiincho Posted November 21, 2020 (edited) Just FYI the swivel one of course has more articulation but it doesn't hold weight as well. For posing it's better but not for grasping even slightly weighted things stuff.
