Building a DDy f3 body.. questions, please help!

Recommended Posts

Pit

I had the same question one year ago and test it by myself with the DDIII body of my Alna and one f3 internal frame from a DD. And I can asure you DDdy III waist, thighs and bust are completely compatible with the f3 internal frame. In fact, I think all those parts are the same for both frames. However, f3 internal frame from arms have a different joint form compared to DDIII so they're not compatible. Shins are compatible but maybe you will find the DDdyIII somewhat bothersome as their look is different compared to those from the DD-f3 vinyl. They're larger from the sides and cover part of the ball joint of the ankles.

Now, if your questions are related with mixing exclusively both DD and f3 internal frame, I think the only parts compatible are feet and hands. But take this last point with a grain of salt. I have never test it so I'm not sure.

If you dont have and F3 internal frame for your DDdyIII dynamite, and you ABSOLUTELY think this update is a must for your girl, then buy it. If you're not sure, I recommend you save your money. F3 internal frame is harder than DDIII, besides is adjustable. But if you're careful with your dolls, the DDIII internal frame is more than enough.

Hope this helps.

if the DD F3 shins and arms are not campatible which ones should I use? I do like the idea of using the F3 frame, which is why I thought it would work!

Do you know what shins and arms the body I have linked in my main post uses? thanks ! i'm clueless on this sort of stuff, so this helps a ton lol.

I have a similar project going on, so I have done some research from this forum about this matter. I believe you actually can attach f3 arms into DDy III frame. You should also be able to attach DDy III thighs and f3 shins. As far as I understand, those two points are the only places, where mixing the two frames is possible (apart from head and hands).

Unfortunately I have not tried this combination yet myself, so I cannot be certain about this matter. (I haven't bought the new f3 parts yet. It may take some time before my project continues, a Kanu decided to move in and I have to focus on her at the moment. 😅

If you want to use f3 frame, and play it safely, I recommend using f3 parts entirely. Like following:

- Upper torso frame (DD-f3) SW

- DDy Arms (DD-f3) SW

- DDy Waist (DD-f3) SW

- DDy Thighs (DD-f3) SW

- DDy Shins (DD-f3) SW

- DDy Feet (DD-f3) SW

You can use any DDy semi-white bust, any semi-white head and any DD semi-white hands. (The doll in your picture is semi-white dollfie dream dynamite, therefore I presume you wish to build a semi-white girl.)

Hope this helps!

That's not going to work. The f3 arm frames are:

1) Slotted, so they are not round, nor is the socket they go into.

2) The post that goes into the socket is smaller on the f3, so there is no friction to hold it in a DDIII body. I just tried on a spare DIII body, and it's a no go.

AFAIK the original DDDy body uses the same torso frame as the DDIII.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

Agreed.  Totally different pieces there.

Which parts do you mean by torso?  The lower one?  Because the upper from the waist up is completely different from the old DDdy to the newer DDdy3 and DD3 bodies.  You can see here in this thread the upper differences.

But if meant the lower part, I do think it's either the same or extremely similar.

I mean the internal frame. I though there was only on IF part for DDIII and DDDy?

Is there a reason you were mixing and matching parts in the OP?

Sorry for the late response.

Before talking about compatibility I will clarify this just in case: ALL DDdy VYNIL PARTS are compatible with DDIII and f3 intenal frames. Afaik, the feet are the only exception.

Having clarified that, this is a comparison for the shins. This photo is from the blog of orchid dolls. https://orchiddolls.com/body-comparison-dds-f-3-vs-dds-iii . It compares DDS bodies but applies for DDdy as well as both share the shin's particularity I told you before.

dollfie_dream_comparison_DDS-f-3_body_DD3_orchid_dolls_09_feet.jpg

Here you can see DDS III shins are a little bit larger from the sides (right image), compared to the two f3 images (left and middle). I guess this difference is for posability purposes, because the joint of DDIII ankles can't do the side-movement f3 can do. BUT, I insist, the shin vynil is fully compatible with both internal frames. So, you won't have any trouble here.

However, the shoulders are another story. The f3 internal frame is not compatible with the DDIII internal frame of the torso, and viceversa. This, because of the different shapes of the socket. As @BeyondTime said, f3 is slotted and DDIII is round.

In conclusion, you can't combine internal frames (except the feet and hands), but you can combine vynil parts (except the feet).

Hope this was not confusing and helps.

Ok, but you listed DDDyIII parts in your setup in the OP.

In order to build and f3 body the entire internal frame needs to be f3. As was suggested earlier you can use some of the vinyl parts from DDDyIII, but you would have to buy the DDDyIII part, remove the internal frame it comes with, then install the f3 frame. This wouldn't make a lot of sense, because the f3 frame pieces you need would come with the vinyl parts attached anyways. It's also a real pain to get the frame out of many of those parts.

You could also simply just buy a DDDy-f3 body from Volks USA.

https://volksusastore.com/webstores/dollfie/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=10052 (Semi-White Color)

If you are looking to buy the parts on their own and assemble a doll, then they appear to have all the various DDDy-f3 parts in stock.

https://volksusastore.com/webstores/dollfie/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=824

Since they don't list the arms, upper torso frame, shins, or feet on that page, it seems likely that these are parts that the DDDy body shares with DD. I am not 100% sure of that, but maybe @baldylox can confirm this. They seem to have all the relevant DD parts in stock too. One note is that the lower torso would not come with the upper body frame and the bust part doesn't come with the upper body frame, so you will need to buy the upper body internal frame part along with the other bits.

Honestly, if this is your first DD, I would recommend just buying the base body complete.

I would also suggest that you make sure that you can get everything you want for a custom doll before buying anything. That includes the eyes, wigs, and lining up a face-up artist. Otherwise you are going to own a bunch of very expensive parts and not be happy. Customs can end up being quite pricey as you search for the right parts to make the look you have in mind. It's easy to spend more than $1000 on a custom. If you have a character in mind you can talk to face-up artists about the best head to use.

Lastly, they do have DDDy Towa. She would come with everything up front, including a basic outfit. She's cute as she is, and I've seen some really nice custom face-ups on a Towa head.

So building the body from parts and buying a pre built body is the practically the same?

Actually, you save money by buying it pre-built:

For a DD f-3, you'll spend $375 buying all of the parts including hands and wrists.  It's $350 to buy the body as a whole.
For a DDDy f-3, you'll spend $423 buying all of the parts including hands.  It's $361 to buy the body as a whole.

Assuming my math is correct, of course~
