original Miku or reboot Miku?

Recommended Posts

Hello hello! This year I will be buying my first ever Dollfie Dream, and I've already decided that it's going to be Miku. But should I get the original Miku or the reboot Miku? What are the real differences between the two? I know the bodies are different, but from what I've seen the difference of the poseability isn't that big. I will most likely buy her used and the highest price I can afford is about 80,000yen. I barely see the reboot Miku pop up on sites like Mandarake and others where I am looking to buy from, and when she does, the price is quite high... Also, I am generally just an impatient person, lol. So is it worth it to wait until a reboot Miku pops up?

The only major difference to consider between the two versions is that Volks has stopped producing the old DDIII frame, so if you bought the older Miku and down the road needed to replace, say, her arms due to severe staining, you wouldn't be able to. With the Reboot version, replacement parts are readily available since that version of Miku uses the new F3 frame. But honestly, as long as you're careful with dark clothes you'd be just fine with the older version.

I also was in the same boat as you at the beginning of 2020, and ultimately decided to buy an original Hatsune Miku DDIII, because you can definitely score some sweet deals on the original vs a Reboot version.  Otherwise, Selenae is right; avoid staining her (and just make sure you've got some protective tape, or a bodysuit, and some Dream Rescue on hand) and there's nothing to worry about.

You can always upgrade her body to an F3 later on if you want, too.  The current hands and bust pieces fit on the DDIII body, so if you had wanted to upgrade her or get some optional hands/upgraded wrist pieces, you absolutely can do that, as well!  It's worth buying the original just to get her outfit parts, honestly, and have the option to upgrade later.
