Tips for getting the headcap off?

Recommended Posts

Nightmare Tea

Alright, so I just spent an hour trying to get Suzie's headcap off. No luck.

And now my hands hurt, so I need some tips.

I know there is the hair-dryer tactic but I don't know about doing it.

How long does the hair-dryer need to be next to the head? How far away from the head? What setting?

If anything I would like to avoid using the dryer, but I've tried everything else and my baby hands can't do it.

I would keep it on the lowest setting. You don't need to be too close, you wanna warm it up, not get it hot. It usually doesn't take long at all, 30 sec at most. Just warming it up a little can make a pretty big difference. Getting it off without warming it can be damn near impossible with some heads.

If that fails, I've at times used the flat non-serrated back side of a butter knife to help pry it off(from the back side of the head).

Once you have it off you may wanna consider cutting a notch out of the inner rim to make it easier to get off in the future.

I already tried the butter knife...

I'll try the hair-dryer when her eyes get here, and I was already planning on doing the notching as well.

Thank you for your help!

Try placing it between your hands with fingers crossed and squeezing it on the sides right above the ears below the seam and then pry up the headcap, its real easy no hair dryer needed.

A tip for putting it back on is to cut a couple of notches around it to make it fit easier.

The notches are a big help. I usually cut 4 or 5, enough that I don't need the hair dryer anymore. The dull knife trick also works once the notches are cut. I haven't noticed any harm in squeezing the head a bit to help loosen the headcap, other than the eyes may come loose in the process.

I've never taken her headcap off before, though, so as of right now there are no notches, and I can't open it.

I will try these suggestions, though!

I got it off!

I just used the hair-dryer and the knife; but my hand still hurts again!

I gotta see of my dad has like an x-acto knife or something for the notches.

Thank again guys!

That is great!!

Personally I dont like to use the hair dryer on the head because Im afraid it might do something bad to the face up. I used the pressure method when first got her and it popped right out, so I dont really know how other methods work but hopefully it will be much easier for you once you cut the notches around the cap .

I didn't use the hair-dryer on the front of the head, I used it on the back.

I cut the notches and tested it and I can take it off SO much easier now.

It's a bit hard to get it back in, but it's not that bad.

Hi! Trying to revive this thread for newbie like me. Is there any illustrations out there? Never thought DD would be harder to change eyes compared to my SDs.

this post its 9 years old, in those years head caps were made whit hard vinil, the actual caps are soft vinil, you only have to squeeze it and pull.... the eyes are atached whit hot glue and its easy to remove.

Thanks @kalisha! I just have to stick to newer ones then. Newer and easier means roughly from which year?

Thanks @kalisha! Sounds like I will not have that problem anymore with the dolls from the past 5 years or so then. Great to know!
