Lynn Posted January 11, 2021 I tried to find a solution to this, but I don't seem to find anything. I have a Kanu Unchou, and the poor baby smells like she has been stashed in a really mouldy attic since 2008. How to remove the smell? Should I wash her? I have to took her apart to do that, right...? Or will the smell dissipate over time? Can she withstand temperatures below freezing point? (Coldness was the only way I could get a horrible parfume stench away from a dress I bought from a flea market once.) What would be the best way to treat Kanu? Meowjima Posted January 11, 2021 My DDDy Miko had a similar problem. People have recommended taking the doll apart and 'bathing' most of the vinyl in a solution of vinegar and water. I was going to use that as an extreme measure (I would recommend looking around for people to offer better info on that method). All I had to do to get rid of the smell as take the doll apart and leave her in a plastic container with some baking soda in a box, then I put all of her clothing/wigs in bags with dryer sheets.
baldylox Posted January 11, 2021 I have had great success getting rid of odd smells like smoke with this process: Take apart doll as much as you can. Pull off feet, hands, arms, legs ( if you can get them ), upper torso and head. Wash everything but the head with warm water and Dawn dish detergent. Wash the head carefully with the same as above but don't wipe over the faceup if at all possible. Dry everything off with a soft towel and let air dry. Once dry, get either a large ziploc bag or plastic container that the parts will fit into and put everything in along with 4 or 5 dryer sheets. Close the bag or container and place in the freezer for 3 days. Do not touch it or move it or check on it, just leave it alone. 😉 After 3 days, pull the container or bag out, take all the pieces out of it and lay them on a clean fluffy towel to air dry for a full day so they get to room temperature. Once dried you can wash them again and then let air dry or just leave them be if they have no smell or odd feel to them. If they still have any smell left to them, repeat the process. I have only had to use this process a few times and it has worked on the first go around every time without fail. I don't know WHY it works, I just know that it does and there is no damage to the doll at all that I've seen during or after the process. Hopefully this helps out! Billy 2 1 I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
Riesz Posted January 11, 2021 I've had good success with getting rid of cigarette smells by dunking the doll parts into a bag of clean kitty litter. Kitty litter absorbs odours similarly to baking soda, etc. but I find that it isn't quite as messy and just shakes off easily.
