Gurren Lagann and Yoko

Yoko was one of the first few character DDdy's I ever saw. I had already seen the anime by the time I saw the DDdy version of her and was amazed they did such a good job. Now that years have passed and I have my own Yoko DDdy, I decided to give the GL anime a rewatch. The last time I saw it, it was being aired on the SyFy network. So I got the whole commercial interruption deal with it.

 

I bought the anime series like 2 years ago and had not even watched it yet. So earlier tonight I broke down and put in the first disc.

 

I am *still* amazed at how well the Volks people did with Yoko's design. Just watching the first 4 eps, I noticed that almost every little detail on her anime character was included on the DDdy. It's really nice how they got it all right.

 

And I didn't remember Yoko being quite so bouncy from before. This time around I guess I was paying more attention to her specifically so I saw her chest doing a LOT of moving around. Not that it bothers me, I just didn't recall seeing that before.

 

Tomorrow I'll watch more of it and I'll even let my Yoko watch with me so she can see herself up on the bigscreen! It should be fun to see her reaction to that!

 

Anyone else watch this show and love it like me? Anyone else a big Yoko fan?

You know if you watch Gurren Lagann with Yoko you are going to have to watch Evangelion with Rei and Fatal Fury with Mai

 

And that is totally fine with me since I own both those shows too! I wasn't overly happy with Fatal Fury but I love Eva. I just wish the release schedule of the new movies would not take so long. I have the first one but it feels like FOREVER since they announced the 2.22 one. I'll be wanting to see that on Bluray since I have yet to see that movie. All the Mari DD goodness out there and I have no clue who she really is or what her deal is other than she's a new pilot in a new machine. And she's hot.

I just rewatched Gurren Lagann a month or two ago. Awesome, awesome show! FLCL and Diebuster are my fav Gainex series, but GL is close...

 

I'm really looking forward to Eva 2.22 as well! I saw a clip on Amazon, of Mari's skydive landing, which was awesome! Mari might have a chance of dethroning Asuka as my fav Eva character...

You know I've not finished all of Gurren Lagann but Yoko is one of the finest looking DD characters I have ever seen. There are other ones that look like the anime version but don't quite make it there but Yoko... Yoko is 300% herself- perfectly. I miss out on ordering her but she's always one of my favorites to see pop up in other people's galleries.

The anime itself is pretty fantastic, fan service and all. What else can we really expect of Gainax? I tried to watch it online with ... I think it was Hulu? Anyhow, it was missing a critical episode where

Kamina dies

and I gave up. I really just need to bite the bullet and pick up the set because the angst is kind of epic.

 

Also I need to find out if you know what spoiler alert codes work in this forum because nothing I tried thus far has worked. If anyone can point out the obvious for me.... I'd really appreciate it.

I have actually never finished Gurren Lagann either. I have seen up until Nia gets into the series. Seeing Yoko "bounce around" in the beginning was satisfying enough. I would have bought DD Yoko even if I hadn't watched any of the series. She is a fantastic DD.

I have been watching GL all weekend and I am halfway thru it right now. If you have not seen this show to its end, go out and buy it NOW! Or at least rent or stream it, it's so worth it!

 

The first half is great even tho some people get killed off but the second chapter is EPIC. If you like over the top action, space battles and super silly giant robot fights, GL is a must see series. Yoko is awesome throughout the whole show. Plus her space going outfit is just WAY ridiculous.

 

Mitsuki, I see your scanner is working well! I'm glad you are enjoying your book, it makes me very happy!

 

As an aside, I let all my girls watch GL along with me and good old Yoko has now started wearing her default wig again. She has also been cleaning her guns more often. I think she has remembered the fact that she kicked major butt in the series. Her sisters had no idea how cool she was and now Manami keeps asking her to wear her default set more often. Gee I wonder why...

 

We did have one problem tho. When a certain someone died, poor Yoko cried for like 10 minutes. I tried to console her but she was pretty torn up about it. She finally got over it and her sisters gave her a hug-fest that lasted almost an hour. So nice to see them getting along....

 

I have not gone after the movies yet due to them being pretty expensive but I wouldn't mind getting them eventually. I hear some of the action is even MORE over the top than the TV series was. I find *that* hard to believe.

Too bad they don't make a Kamina DD- or any male DD. A Kamina one would be hot tho. I'd order that... O.o

While the idea of seeing a Kamina in DD scale and anime stylings would be really cool, I could not have one in my house. Or any male doll for that matter. Reasons?

 

If he stayed here long, he would either become a total jerk due to several girls fawning and fighting over him constantly or he would be hiding in fear of my daughters and what they may do to him. Either scenario would be bad so I play it safe and have no male influences in their life other than myself and a few select male DD owners. It's safer this way for everyone involved....

Thanks for posting the Nia pics and links! I love her look in the show and her DD version is so pretty. Nia's DD face is just about perfect. I would love to adopt a Nia someday but she is extremely hard to find and expensive as heck if you do.

 

There are people who post on Figurefm who own a Nia. The one Mitsuki linked to is one of those. I like the new eyes but the defaults are my favorites. They're so bright and so different from other eyes, that's what draws you in on her.

 

I agree that Nia and Yoko DD's in a photoshoot/story would be too kawaii. Cuteness overload would probably destroy my computer monitor...

older thread but thought i'd post since Yoko is the reason i got into DDs, I've been a huge HUGE fan of Gurren Lagann since it was airing in japan, and as a huge figure collector I set a goal to get every scaled PVC release of yoko, but when Volks released their Yoko, I knew one day i would be a convert. She is just so perfect and looks so amazing and just like her! If she looked any less than she does as Yoko i wouldn't be here with you fine people, i would have passed and never looked back. But her face, eyes, body, outfit, hair, everything was just spot on! It was be outrageous for me not to get her for myself! One day I'd love to get Nia as well to keep her company but she's not high on my priority list. For now I'm just trying to spoil Yoko as best as I can before i move onto more girls!

Yoko is an excellent DDdy and also a great representation of her onscreen self.

 

I think the best thing about Yoko is her ability to light up a room when she arrives. I've seen it at almost every doll meet I've ever been to. As soon as I take Yoko out of the bag, she gets SWAMPED by people taking pics and "ooing and ahhing" over her. I know you've seen this too if you have taken yours anywhere.

 

Her other great ability is to look awesome no matter what wig or outfit she is wearing. She pulls off so many different looks so well, it amazes me. I never thought Yoko could look good without her default wig but as soon as I put the short wig I have her in now on, she owned it. She's perfect to me.

 

So it's great that your Yoko was what got you into this hobby.

Anyways, that aside, CONGRATS! You will *love* Yoko in person! She's such a wonderful girl to have. You two had best watch GL together as soon as you can! She's great in the show and the show is an excellent watch. I've watched it 3 times now and will do so again since its so much fun.

 

One word of caution that you probably already know... don't keep Yoko's default outfit on for long, it stains like crazy! Her wig will too so if you plan to keep it on her, give her a headcap for protection. Other than that, enjoy her to the fullest! AND POST PICS!!

Oh yes. Kamina said that right after he found out she was just another "pit chick". Before that, when he thought she was actually FROM the surface, he was all about saying how hot she was. Silly Kamina!

I love Gurren Lagann. Love its insanity and epic scale. And who doesn't love Yoko? I have a weakness for redheads too. IMO, you can usually judge how good an anime is by its opening song (80% of the time). When I heard Sora Iro Days, I knew this anime would rock.

 

I wish to own DD Yoko one day. She looks absolutely beautiful. Her rifle is so damn cool too. xD

I just LOVE Gurren and maaaaan it just sucked when 'you know who' died GAH I really didn't wanna watch anymore because I knew it just wouldn't be the same without that character but it all was done just so awesomely to show how Simon grew because of it and even Yoko... of course I absolutely LOVED the Yoko Dollfie instantly when she was announced..of course I hadn't any money for her at the time =( it wasn't until a few years later that I was able to get my hands on her adorable self and she was my very first Dollfie Dream and I haven't been able to stop since XD Dollfies are totally my addiction but hey family can't complain right I mean can't be buying/doing drugs or even going out to drink insane amounts of alcohol when all your money goes to your girls and cute clothes for them ect..though some people may say drugs would be cheaper! rofl

I, like everyone else in this thread LOVED TTGL although I have yet to finish the series because on a certain streaming site a critical episode (as said previously) was missing and annoyed me so I didn't bother to finish it yet.

 

Yoko is one of my top priority girls to get as she is just so exceptionally beautiful and captures her character very well.

 

Heck I actually had to use a proxy service to find a certain Yoko Littner figure made by Alter (the one with the brown jacket). That figure was quite expensive and somewhat rare but nothing compared to her DD cost!

I love both of those DDS they are perfect and beautiful.

Volks done absolutely amazing job with Yoko. It looks like she came out from anime.
