Bought a head, but is this body compatable

Hey all,

So I have bitten the dollfie bullet and ordered a ddh-06 head from mandarake.

However, as a complete noob, I am now wondering will this body work with that head?

It will work, but because the 6 is intended for a bigger body, it will wobble slightly and there may be some gapping at the neck. (A wig may cover this though)

Theres also aesthetic preference. In my opinion the head might look slightly bobbleheaded or even too mature for the child-like MDD body but there are people who would disagree with me. If the combination is something you like then go for it.

edit: The other thing would be making sure you have a skin tone match, I don’t know what colour your head is but you will need to check if its semiwhite or flesh/normal, which are the two options for body parts on the site. (Also a heads up that ‘flesh’ and ‘normal’ are the same thing - ‘normal’ is what it used to be called but was renamed recently, but it’s why you will still see many listings that call it normal as they were either made before the change or because people are too used to calling it that (or potentially unaware of the change))

(there is also white and tan/brown, but white is discontinued and tan/brown is only available in a select  few of the Volks stores in Japan).

Edit 2: I went looking for pictures of a 6 MDD combination because I was curious, if you wanted more help in judging if you like the way the combo looks. It looks a bit odd to me personally but it really depends what look you want. It might be because I’m too used to seeing this head as a teenager or adult.

I found this full-body image of a (modded mouth) DDH-06 on a normal MDD body, for comparison's sake:

I've done DDH-06 on MDD - I'm not as picky about larger heads and gappy necks though, but it looks OK for me.

I'm not typically a fan of the DDH-06 on an MDD body, but I threw mine together and...

I feel like it works proportion-wise on the mochi-ashi body! The head gets balanced out by the legs I think.

The bigger hands also help:

I imagine a lot of how well it can work comes done to the styling + faceup as well. Assuming you bought the 06 head in your other thread, that style of faceup would work well on both an MDD and a bigger DD body I think. So it just comes down to the wig and eyes really. For that head I think 24mm eyes would work best with the way the eyes are painted!

Wow! She looks so pretty! Thanks for the pics, they really help a lot, do you have any more info about the gappy necks that people talk about, is it really noticeable?

Thanks for the photo, really helpful to actually see what it would look like. Thanks for the advice about the eye size too, may I ask what wig size should I be going for?

Also please excuse the quote spam from before, been years since using message board like this and thought that the quote button on here was the equivalent of the reply button (too much reddit has made me reply button dependant!) 

Regarding the gappy neck issue, I don’t have a photo of it but it tends to be more visible when the head is turned to the side or tilted sharply. Because the socket at the base of the head is larger than the mdd neck you might see a gap there with some poses.

Ultimately, she's on a DDdy body, now, but it wasn't a bad look.

Typically the DDH-06 is used with a Dollfie Dream, Dollfie Dream Sister, or Dollfie Dream Dynamite body. They're around 55-60cm tall, as opposed to the MDD and Mochi-Ashi bodies which are more like 45cm.

@ItsMeMichelle An 8-9 inch sized wig is what DD's typically wear I believe! My head fits all of the wigs of that size I own, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one that fits!

Correct, but DD heads can come in a variety of sizes so some 8 - 9” wigs require head caps or wig stopper to keep them from slipping off the head.

If the wig has a dark colored cap, which is fairly typical for wigs with black or brown hair, then you definitely want a cloth cap to protect against stains. 

If it has a white cap, then you would only need a cap if the wig has a loose fit. Usually the best caps for fit issues are silicone, but silicone caps can make staining worse.

The drawback to caps is that the edges can show.
