How to pierce doll ears?

Hello! 
I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction for piercing my AP doll’s ears. I’ve seen videos of people using a hand drill, but this feels like it’s too clunky for a small AP head. I was thinking about using a hot needle?

I’m worried about making a mistake, so I’d rather ask to see what other people who have done doll piercings recommend. Thank you!
