Unless I missed an account I’m not seeing any duplicate IPs. Pretty sure the suspected sock-puppet account was on Facebook.

Yep this was on Facebook, not here. The whole thing happened on FB in a vinyl doll group but was talked about in here (halfway page 10).

It was unfortunate. It was on-topic as long as it was about something observed in the community, but as soon as it became clear it was a grievance about a private transaction that fell apart it fell under the heading of off-topic. 

We have occasionally had issues with disputes spillover from Facebook, so folks need to keep in mind that we have a rule that covers this kind of thing.

Just in general stalking someone from Facebook over to their account here really should be recognized as out of bounds too. Not saying that happened in this case, but it has happened before. 

I dunno if this is relevant but in general argh please be nice to people selling doll stuff! I see confessions on TBC sometimes about similar situations, where there's either confusion or someone isn't instantly available to chat continuously. Never mind that a seller might have shot off a quick reply before bed, be in a different timezone, or have a toddler hassling them for ice cream or other toddler nonsense. Just please give people time before flipping out ^^;

Best thing we can do is just report the post and let the mods deal with it, I suppose.

I, too, would be hard pressed to believe that Danny would take the time to come and troll teh forums for a bit.

I mean, I'm pretty sure he looks at the forums here. Don't think he's ever openly posted anything though, and I doubt his first post would be that.

The point made in that post is valid though. There is a rule against doxing, so while the post bbotss made helped clarify the situation, names should have been be blanked out sufficiently enough to hide the persons identity. I know screenshots are a key element in fighting internet shenanigans, so that was fine in and of itself, but in the future everyone needs to remember to be careful about outing someone’s real name.

I failed to notice that in the screenshots, but Averis caught it and hid the post.

I want to make the point that the user who started this may not have had any intent to deceive the forum. They did have issues buying smartdolls directly from the SmartDoll website, and I did advise them to have a family member at a different address buy the doll for them. There was a lot of anxiety around being able to purchase one without getting caught up in Danny’s antics, so their intent may have simply been to hide their purchases from Danny.

They had renamed their forum account too, and I didn’t even realize it was the same person until they mentioned the advice I gave them. No way to know their intentions for sure, but this whole thing does leave a bad taste in my mouth, even if they did handle their interactions with people poorly.

We don’t see a history of name changes, so the only way we know who someone is under their new name is to go back and look up old posts.

I think in this circumstance it was an easy mistake to make since the user was presenting a situation as something other than it was, and I’m pretty sure all you were trying to do was point to the truth. The internet isn’t really private, and even private conversations can be easily outed with a screen grab, but everyone forgets that.

You also never know who knows who, so that person you are talking to might just be friends with the person you are talking about. XD 

We all need to pay more attention to use of real names in the future though.

Before buying my Smart Doll, I looked on etsy to see multiple dolls in multiple outfits, trying to get a feeling for what dolls looks like. If you like the Iplehouse and have the money, go for it! Also I can understand VOLKS fans, who maybe love a limited doll cause it's a character from their favourit anime series.

Maybe thats also a reason for the hype. I am sure some japan or anime fans would NEVER buy from Iplehouse just because it's from south korea and not from the "homeland" japan. But like I said, I am a newbie. I thought bought what I fell in love for. Personally I think all mentioned doll shops are great ... and all are expensive. Therefore you make a decision. You probably wont buy dolls from all shops, maybe you will even stick with just one. 

Huh, you know I didn't even know Iplehouse was South Korean! That's actually great because I love manhwa and Korean light novels, ha ha. The whole reason my mouth was watering over Ipplehouse is because I want to do a pair of cosplay dolls designed after characters from the light novel and manga Under the Oak Tree, Riftan and Maximillian Calypse, these two adorable dumbasses. Now normally I don't go for the truly ripped guy look because that's just not my personal preference, but since I want to do cosplay Riftan I went looking for who was most ripped and yeah, that's gonna be Iplehouse HID.  I find it a bit weird that people have some country-specific thing involving dolls (or comics, for that matter) especially since I grew up in the 90s before you could get anime anywhere and then got to see, blessedly, that it exploded all over the map and I can get anime shirts at Wal mart and lord what a time to be alive! I'm no purist, deliver all this stuff directly into my veins, both the simplified anime style and the more detailed version, Japanese, South Korean, Chinese, even American done manga-style. I want it all.

I do get that not being your thing though! FYI the Shoushou Doll Niko that I posted is actually not Iplehouse, I know next to nothing about the house that makes that one, but she's adorable and I want her, I just only have so much money for dolls, dammit.  For the longest time I was Smart Doll only and no other. I guess I started to expand out once I got a certain amount of dolls in my collection.

I really like the look of a lot of those TTYA clothes, and I wanted to get a dress from them, but goddamn their shipping costs are as high as the price of the item itself. That paired with customs duty would make it a very expensive dress. 😢

Shipping costs usually need large orders to justify, but then customs would be even more brutal. 

Yes. I still intend to get some items from their shop at some point, but I'll have to mentally prepare for the customs invoice first. 😄

customs are really an important factor. I paid 18% for customs in germany, which is huge. To avoid that I would recommend to buy only the dolls and maybe some favourit stuff (ears, hands...) from japan. Clothes you can get from a couple of other shops.

Same problem with TTYA. It's a popular shop but shipping AND customs make it very expensive. So I am more looking for local shops.

Totally can understand your preference. I would also buy more dolls instantly if they werent so expensive.

It's not like I dont have the money. I invested in stocks some commodities and gold, but still considering how much dolls are "worth" for me. Also I think: If you have ONE doll, she's your baby, very unique and you love her. If you have 10 dolls, well....

I have one doll for now, like my christmas present. And I wont order a second one before my birthday in march. And even that I will consider wisely. This forum helps me alot to learn about other dolls. If you started with Smart Doll (like I did) maybe it's even a good idea to buy a second doll from another store, just to have something different. As much as I love my Smart Doll, I am wondering if I even want a second SM, since the faces are similar and the bodies are 100% the same besides of skin colors. Maybe a Smart Doll could need a dollfie dream sister? or in your case a Iplehouse sister ^^

As a fellow EU person; if you buy from Etsy nowadays you don't need to worry anymore about customs!

Before 1 july it used to be different depending on where you ordered from, but since the new VAT rule Etsy now has VAT included. It should say "Local taxes included (where applicable)" underneath the price of things and then you should be safe to order. Same thing goes for AliExpress, too!

I knooow right. I preordered one in the most recent preorder and she wasnt crazy expensive. Aaand I bought one secondhand which will arrive tomorrow. Whoops.

Shoushou doll is a very small company so waiting times are pretty long, but I've heard mostly good things about them.

I still worry about customs. The crazy amount of double customs I had is insane. They put it on the label that its already paid for and I still get charged. Or they just don't put it on the label at all. 😭
