Dreamingwaffles Posted May 11, 2021 Hi! Which size elf ears for MDD are the best? Also, can I use a silicon wig cap or should I get the volks fabric ones?
abs2891 Posted May 11, 2021 (edited) In regards to wig caps, it depends on what you are trying to do - a silicone wig cap will not prevent staining, but it will keep on a slightly too large wig. Alternatively a fabric wig cap should help prevent staining but it’s not going to do much to hold a loose wig in place (I tend to combine both when I run into this). If the wig you are using has a dark wig cap, you’d definitely want a fabric wig cap to go under it and even lighter brown wig caps can stain so if you’re going to buy only one I’d go for fabric. Unfortunately for ears, I don’t have any shop recommendations. On a purely stylistic note, I think small elf ears that stay closer to the head are cuter but that’s just me haha Edited May 11, 2021 by abs2891
jadepixel Posted May 11, 2021 I like the elf ears from GoldDin- https://www.etsy.com/shop/GoldDin They fit pretty well on my DDH-21 and the shop is easy to purchase from. 4 jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

Shamrock Posted May 14, 2021 Oh I need to check these out! I have been searching for elf ears for my dds choice, but in brown skin tone. I can't seem to find anything close to Volk's dream choice brown/tan skin tone.
Beani Posted May 28, 2021 @jadepixel Thanks for linking GoldDin. I’d seen their first ear version and didn’t like them but v3 is right up my alley. Some just arrived and I find myself terrified of the putty. Have you had any issues with it? How long have you left these ears on with no trouble? Any tips on how to avoid possible damage would be appreciated.
jadepixel Posted May 28, 2021 For putty I generally use the same white poster tack that I use for eyes, and not any provided by other sellers since I can't be sure of the materials. If putty is applied generously the ears stick on well, though sometimes with cold temps the putty will lose its hold. I'd be careful about puttying ears on custom faceups that may have a lot of sealant/blushing on them, but so far it's been fine for me and no damages from the putty that I used. The putty I like is the white Duck or 3M brand poster tack. 1 jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop
Beani Posted May 29, 2021 (edited) @jadepixel Thanks for that! Sadly it seems I can’t access either of those brands in Japan for a not ridiculous amount and shipping from Amazon US isn’t worth it alone. I’ll have a better look later but do you happen to know what type of ingredients should be avoided? Edited May 29, 2021 by Beani
Veravey Posted May 29, 2021 I've read that silicone based puttys are fine. I use silicone putty that's made to be used as ear plugs a few people on this forum use it, too. As long as you aren't using it on silicone doll parts. If it's resin, acrylic, or vinyl you should be fine. Any white poster putty should work fine too. Some people use kneadable erasers even. samseramsamsam Posted June 5, 2021 Sorry to double post, but I just wanted to show off this really cheap alternative : elf ears for Blythe dolls. You can get these on AliExpress for about 3 bucks including shipping. Of course a far cry from e. g. GoldDin's great work. But just for cuteness? (I already ordered some white, 'normal' seems a little off for AP)
