Hello from Japan

Recommended Posts

Plumo

Hi, I was uncertain if I should or should not introduce myself because I don't know if I am interesting ^^"

But anyways. I am from Japan, but I am not 100% japanese, since I was born in Brazil (japanese parents)

Since a few years I've always loved dolls, I felt in love for SmartDolls because my friend used to work there and he is a photographer.

As a cosplayer, I can sew, and because I am not very cute and wanted to make cute clothes I've decided to learn how to sew for dolls.

My first doll was Ebony (I think that was her name back there) and the second one was Suzaku from Code geass.

Then 2b and coron from Volks

I know Danny Choo have been a ... interesting topic here so I am not gonna defend nor atack him here....

Lately I've been interested in BJD as well but I am afraid to even touch them lol

I also collect and (try) to customize other kind of dolls like pullips and monster high, nendroid etc.

and I will update my profile photo and other images in the future lol

Yoroshiku onegaishimasu

Sorry for my broken english ^^"

They’re sturdy, and generally all you need to do to protect them is wear soft gloves, avoid touching the face up, and have a sturdy stand for posing them. I have a few of them, and they’ve stayed in good shape without any special handling.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

I have 6 Smart Dolls myself, with #7 on the way. I keep telling myself to stop getting more but they always tempt me, lol!

Welcome to the forum! I've owned...... three Smart Dolls and four heads.  Now I'm down to one.  While people have their respective opinions about Danny and his business practices, people here overall love Smart Dolls.

Hello Plumo! Welcome to the board!

Don't worry, I'm sure you're more interesting than you give yourself credit for, and I'm glad to see you've decided to come and say hi to us. :3

This, for example, is already something that's quite interesting if you ask me! I couldn't sew anything if my life depended on it, so I'm at least somewhat envious of that skill. Did you make anything already? What sort of clothes do you make or want to make?

Yes, I've made a few clothes for my dolls, I learned how to sew with some classes for old ladies in Japan who has nothing better to do lol, a few blouses from SmD patterns and bought a few patterns that are already ready for Smd.
I have a instagram that I post photos of my hobbies, but it is so messy, I pretty much post every hobby lol

Is not that I am that good, but if you want to see is  on /plumorangeart (can I do this here?)

Welcome to the forum @Plumo. I’m a long time bjd collector and can tell you they are quite sturdy but can heavy, particularly the 60 cm+ dolls. Weight is one of the reasons I’m jumping over to Dollfie Dream and Smart Dolls. It’s certainly not price. 😂

Thank you so much
I've heard about the weight issue, and the fact I would have to wear gloves kind of makes me think about having another DDP as the prices are not so different

Ah, yes, the gloves. I make sure my hands are clean when handling my bjds but I have lost some sensitivity in my hands so gloves are a bit of trouble for me. I like the play aspect of my dolls.  I wear gloves when I’m working on them - restringing, sanding seams.

My crew favors dark colors so I change clothes regularly. I also keep them out  - I used to keep them in boxes but I’ve enjoyed them more now that they’re free. 😊

Hello! You live close enough to the smart doll store to go there in person and make purchases? I would love to have this experience! There are no doll stores around me at all.

Don't be afraid of resin! They're pretty durable. The best part, you don't have to be worried about staining either since you can sand them or use magic eraser! Vinyl scares me, I will never dress my vinyl in dark colors. My bjd will wear dark colors.

There's been a phrase/quote bouncing around here for ages: "You haven't really "bonded" with your kiddos until you've treated at least one stain."

I bought a really nice set of purple and black striped leggings for Tana some years ago, but when I removed them, her legs looked like a psychedelic zebra!

Oxy 10 or Dream Rescue (and other products) are your friend! You can't even tell she stained at all..

It can be intimidating, but it's really not bad, overall. We've all had to do it at some point....

Sorry It took me long to notice
Yes I've been in there, it was very pleasant because the staffs are really kind, Danny also was kind enough to have a nice chat with me

Are resin  durable? I've always heard they are not easy to handle =O  I might try then in the future =O

Personally, while I think on a technical level, resin is easier to chip or break (especially small parts like fingers), unless you enjoy literally tossing your vinyls around or something, you don’t have to change your doll handling that much.  They are pretty sturdy (at least for mine which are all volks models).  Their face ups are more likely to get damaged, so you’ll want to properly pack them when traveling/for storage but it’s not particularly difficult.  I was always worried about restringing, but, I’ve now done it once and it went fine.  There’s lots of tutorials out there to help.  They will yellow over time, but that is just the nature of resin.  I have a yellowed doll and I like him just as much as the others.  Agree that the fact that they don’t stain like vinyl is nice in regards to black clothes.  Beyond that, they do move and pose differently than vinyl - the first time one moved on it’s own on me I jumped - but once you get the hang of it they’re equally fun to pose.

So yeah, if you’re interested in resin and there’s a doll you like, I’d say go for it.  I haven’t regretted mine.

Welcome to the forum. Before I got my first doll I got a few figures and books in Akihabara. I had a massive anime phase and still dream of my DDdy girl cosplaying as Chi from Chobits and other favourite characters. Dollfie sized Stardom wrestler outfits would also be awesome as I've been watching a lot of that lately.

Danny is an interesting character, but I was an avid reader of his blog (before he got into dolls) and he was instrumental in ensuring I visited Akihabara back in 2007.
