@monkeypizzasonic If that's true then that's honestly incredibly disappointing. You'd think for a much-loved character like Supergirl, DC Comics would have stipulated that Smartdoll create a unique sculpt for her in the contract.

Unless his entire collab deal with DC is just for costumes and branding.

weeeeeeeeeeeelll.... to be fair, they have signed off before on stuff like Kotobukiya's Bishoujo series of figures....but those were detailed figures, def with original face-work not 'upcycled' reuses, from a well-established company, and under 200bucks!

@BeyondTime Then that's far worse, because that means this release is 120k yen for what is basically a cosplay outfit.

a $700 cosplay outfit/accessories with absolutely no warranty and an IRON ON logo.  

 

On a stock body, and stock head, with a stock wig.

@Meowjima Yeah, I read that after it was mentioned by @baldylox. Right now I'm praying Smartdoll doesn't go anywhere near an IP that I love, because I am honestly horrified thinking of the cheap bullshit Danny might pull in the future.

Has anyone put a picture of her side-by-side with another sculpt for comparison? And with the original prototypes? Did she always look like another doll, or did she look different, or did she look like another doll but we excused it because we assumed the final product would look different, or...?

And did he make original sculpts for the other licensed dolls he's done?

Maybe their contact at DC doesn't know or care enough about the SmD sculpts/bjd market/anime figure stuff to complain about it.

 

(Somebody good at sewing start making decently priced more accurate less stain-prone superhero outfits just to flex on him plz.)

(Also, the "weathered" look does kinda go with DC's recent tendencies to try and be "grimdark" in the comics/movies; look up "Dark Nights: Metal" for an example.)

So she’s pretty much been this way since at least two years ago, barring the lost (and in my opinion better) other outfit in 2019 (and maybe something with the face getting vertically longer in the final version, but it’s late here so my eyes might be playing tricks) - I looked back in here and no earlier prototypes of the doll’s sculpt were shared but I haven’t dug through other places.

I think it’s wig positioning plus the way her head is posed. 

On the better superhero outfit the iron on patch is more noticeable 

I do like the brighter outfit better, but staining would have been just as bad if it wasn't lined properly.

I actually liked the weathered one because of the darker colors, but seeing the S logo scratched up was a downer. 

@monkeypizzasonic Yes, Danny has shown prototypes with unique sculpts for Naruto, Shiki, Mika, Spike, Lelouch, Suzaku, C.C., Gourai, and most recently a Shionne from Tales of Arise. This is why Supergirl stands out in a bad way, because Danny didn't do this at all with her, re-using Kizuna v2 instead. It really screams 'I can't be bothered.'

Yeah, that makes sense

perhaps venturing a bit into tinfoil hat theory but if her head was originally supposed to be cortex, maybe that’s why it wasn’t made unique (but yeah, then Shiki seems weird unless she was always envisioned as a hybrid)

I love her, and I do understand the price because of her outfit but omg..... my 2b was so much cheaper and came with swords.

I've been waiting for Harley since he had announced DC collabs but now I am afraid she will be out of my budget....

Well it might be easier customize one for myself...
