I think that’s a sports fan thing. You see those on some of the crazier fans at games here in the US.

Yeah, it’s definitely a sports thing - not sure why or how it started, but here’s an article from the World Cup a few years back showing off some blue wig enthusiasts (I’d hazard a guess it’s partly bc Japan has blue jerseys and the fans therefore go “all blue” lol)

Same concept, but with Denver Broncos fans. You see it at Basketball games a lot too. Pretty sure it's a thing at Soccer games as well, and it wouldn't surprise me if that's where it started.

The light cream Kimono + Hakama set got me- definitely ordering that one if I get the chance to!

And as an avid fan of all kinds of jellyfish, how could I possibly pass up the chance to dress one of my MDDs with a jellyfish-inspired dress?

I'm VERY curious about the 26 head as well. I hope I'll see some repainted in the future, I think it could make an amazing mature lady look if done right… well, those are some possible plans for the faaaaar future for me, I don't think I'll be able to Dream Choice a doll anytime soon ;;; Especially if Volks continues selling nice outfits

Ohhh the jellyfish dresses looks nice. I like the school uniforms as well. This release definitely speaks to me more than the last. Too bad all the money will get earmarked for the dolls ^^'

I feel like I might need a cheering set for my guys haha other than that, the jelly fish dresses are adorable but I’m not sure my boys want to wear them and miku already has a very full wardrobe… 

I think my bank account is safe for now. I like the look of the bikini set with the shorts.

Argh just my luck, the things I want are split between July collection and Dolpa collection. I don’t really like having to make orders only about a month apart from each other cos of the shipping fees, but I’m paranoid the July stuff I want will sell out before the Dolpa After Event. (I’ve been lucky with waiting so far, but...)

If anyone is interested, the Junichi Nakahara SD & the Kimono will be a limited quantity pre-order on the online store. If they get too many orders it will switch to lottery.

This gives some hope that the limited DD could be limited pre-order too. It’s not a perfect predictor, but it seems like pre-order will be a thing for part of this event.

I love the Lorina sculpt, mixed with that fair skin it’s just gorgeous, and that outfit she has is just so timeless and elegant. 

@Mars I would be in serious trouble if we got tan Alna at some point!  🤩
 

The swimsuits, hakama sets, and those summery causal sets have caught my eye this time around.  Also the sandals.  Hmmm there are more temptations here than I anticipated! 😅

I don’t wanna be the bearer of bad news but this weird system has been used before and I can almost guarantee it means lottery. They used the exact same wording for the release of young Cecile and Williams, who were the SD at the same time as Kizuna Ai and Venus, who iirc were lottery (although the win rate seemed good?). of course, young Cecile/Williams had a whole load of orders and predictably ended up switching to lottery, and the win rate for them ended up EXTREMELY low. (I was mega lucky and got little Cecile but hardly anyone else I know who entered won, and I knew a lot of people who entered. When I was searching twitter for reactions I saw a lot of losses on the jp side too). Given how massively popular these girls are and their aftermarket prices, (and the popularity of SDGr girls in general) I think a lottery is guaranteed. I’d love to be wrong, but...either way, good luck with  getting Alice, she’s absolutely stunning. 

The main difference in ‘schrodingers lottery’ to a regular one is that they email you if you lose, which is nice. (better than leaving you hanging, anyway)

I was assuming the new DDs would be clickwar since the volks news pages shown only sale ‘sale’ during the after event rather than preorder or lottery entry. I really wouldn’t have expecting them to do two preorder releases in a row, especially because the next DD to be revealed will be the annual preorder project in a September. (Still...lotteries are so much better than clickwars, so i’d like to be wrong here too😔)

I think they used that language on all the limited lotteries since COVID locked everything down. I would expect an SD lottery to be pretty competitive, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it did end up lottery.

Jupiter and Meiko didn’t. 

Edit: IIRC Meiko was specifically stated to be all order are fulfilled as opposed to switching to a lottery if they got too many.

I’ve never seen the ‘will switch to lottery if amount exceeded’ language used on any DD release. ‘Limited’ preorder seems to have always just meant a more limited time to get entries in, or a limited number of preorder slots (which is basically a clickwar anyway where you just wait longer, and I also associate this method more within Azone than Volks)

With the ‘may switch to lottery’ method, you don’t actually know about the switch until you get the email that you won or lost, hence ‘schrodingers lottery’. ‘Did I just preorder a doll or am I not getting him?! Let me know already!!’ That was a roller coaster for me last year with Cecile, and the long wait for results (almost a whole month) made it worse. But ah well 2020 was a really rough year for me and all that gave me something else to occupy my thoughts, and in the end I got the doll so i can’t complain too much.

Come to think of it I thiiink Cinderella used this method too, only with a much more favourable win-rate? I saw some people theorise that it actually didn’t switch to lottery after all, but that might have just been speculation. But since that release was japan-only, it may just have had less entries since it didn’t have to include international ones.

Luka was a lottery / pre-order. If you won the lottery you got her immediately, and if you lost she was a pre-order with something like a 9 month lead time. 

I think they have done a thing recently where the SD were a limited pre-order and the DD were clickwar, so if Volks news says it’s a ‘sale’ then that probably does mean clickwar for the DD. 

I would hope that they accurately gauge demand for the SD, but delivery in September after an august event isn’t exactly a long production window for a large number of SD. 

Remember also that we've just had an actual SD preorder for three very popular dolls... I don't think Volks has the capacity for making enough of their probably most sought after mold for everyone, sadly.

And that's coming from the person that is seriously considering entering for both dolls (tried last year for Lorina but alas, did not win). It will end up a lottery with a long entry window. I see literally no other option.

What I meant was she was originally intended to -not- be either of those things, and the switch happened before she even went online rather than during an application period. I have the copy of Volks News her details are in and it only mentions ‘sale’ like they usually do when something is a clickwar, with no mention of preorder at all. (Which is why I distinctly remember being ‘huh?!’ about it when the info changed just before her web release). I brought her up as an example of how there has been precedent for the actual sales method being changed from what was advertised in Volks News. (Young CeciWill are another example of that, their Volks News info stated that they were only going to be available at the Dolpa venue and nowhere else, which I was very upset about at the time, but that change had more to do with that Dolpa being cancelled and moved online)

hmm... If I recall correct Luka's order thing was a bit weird, and had to go waddle through the original thread to make some sense out of it... She was the first with the full payment up front thing, and the lottery bit apparently was also in there from the get go (or at least hinted if demand is high enough they would have to batch the deliverys), but only to determine how soon you got your doll (and the subsequent delay for the november delivery) ... its a bit perplexing, since going through my emails I did find a "congratz you won" email from volks, but cant recall was there some other notification email that I cant find which said where your order would end up. -- or did you have to stalk your volks account for that in the end...
