Re-rooting Cardcaptor Sakura bendy doll

Recommended Posts

di-chan123

Hey everyone!
I thought I would share my fun adventure in re-rooting an old doll I got from Mandarake a few years back. It is none other then Cardcaptor Sakura - the Bandai bendy dolls from the early 2000s.

The version that I re-rooted is the platinum dress version. Sadly, I forgot to take before pictures of what the doll looked like WITH her old hair. It had gotten that crispy feel to it and had turned a strange greenish hue before it began to fall out. Here a close up from Mandarake’s website with the original hair:

Before I began, I had to look up how to re root the head and used this video for guidance, which also lead to where to buy the supplies required for this quest

Without further adieu, here is my doll with no hair

(she’s kinda cute without hair)

The bangs after 30-ish minutes or so of work (or one Futurama episode later)

And so… after 9.5 episodes of Futurama and a short lunch break, this girly got some fine hair again!53A3CA92-1409-4BC5-AE01-1F2C4AF653D7.jpeg.2a526d9ac3709ec9f4fcce9e7490dbbc.jpeg

Tomorrow will be her hair cutting and styling day as I want all the glue used inside the head to harden before I start pulling on her. If all goes well, Syaoran will also be getting a new make over too as his dolls were notorious for losing their hair!

those old late-90's/early-2000's BANDAI/TRENDMASTERS CCS dolls were among my very first Anime dolls.

i got the "DELUXE" OP Pink Dress Sakura Kinomoto from TOYS R US around 2001 or 2002.

i also got the separate, basic doll of her in her summer ver. sailor suit.

i was never happy with their small-sized wire-cored bendy bodies, so i ended up letting them go somewhere in the late-2000's.

ultimately, i got her back around 2017, due to the "Platinum Dress" reissue, -and accessory OP Pink Dress costume set-

that TOMY/TAKARA briefly released around 2017, and when i was finally able to lay hands upon the OBITSU 26cm. doll body around 2019,

i finally, -FINALLY- had my perfect Sakura Kinomoto;

@Tasuke Pretty cool that you were able to get the platinum version with the extra dress. I missed out on the takara tomy dolls back when they were released. I did however, recently picked up that version of the doll off of yahoo! Japan auctions for a great price, but she is missing her original outfit.
I can’t recall if Canadian toys r us had the deluxe sets, I know we had the six standard dolls of Sakura, Li and Meilin, but then again I only saw these dolls at Walmart. :S

After visiting the hair dresser, a hot water bath,… then another hot water bath(>_>) it’s time for the big reveal!
here’s a before with those beautiful long locks of hair

I love the colour on her, she feels like a new doll straight out of the box. I’m glad I was able to give her a new breath of life and can’t wait to display her (one day I’ll get a spot TO display her 😉

Nice job on the re-root, she looks brand new again! ^^ Also nice shot of your CSS doll collection. I remember wishing Trendmasters had released a Tomoyo way back then, so I always like seeing the Bandai doll of her since I wasn't able to import it, haha. Your custom MDD Sakura is super cute too!

Thanks so much! I agree, I wished they had release a Tomoyo doll here as well. I always thought of getting two Meilin’s and make one Tomoyo in the past, but that thought passed when the dolls were not being sold anymore

Thank you for the compliment on my MDD Sakura. She’s my most treasured doll in my collection 🥰

Her new hair looks beautiful.

I had a red haired doll (not Sakura) once whose hair turned to powder and stank while she was in storage.  That was a really alarming experience.
