WIP: Building a 1/3 scaled horse carriage

The best thing about a hobby like this are the endless creative ideas. I love to see people showing their handmade items, outfits etc. 
The effort and stories are really inspiring. I cannot draw or sew but I can do some things with math, wood and 3D printing.

As the title mentioned it is a work in process project that I started in July. At first I wanted to build a scaled pirate ship but came to the conclusion that I miss some skills to build it. So because of that I thought of an alternative and came with the idea to build a 1/3 scaled horse carriage (that I call coach from now on). 😉

currently the cabin frame has been build and both sidepanels and have been made. Painting takes up the most time and I currently like how it comes together.

So far so good. Painting the sidepanels and creating the front and backpanel are next. 
That’s it for now. Will upload the next steps when ready. 😄

I'd have imagined for a 1/3 scale pirate ship, the primary concern would be space and not skills... 😝

the ship would be a much smaller scale (I indeed did think about the biggest scale possible.) My biggest issue was that I couldn’t draw the necessary parts. I also had some issues when working out the frame at the front. 
 

The coach is total different but not less enjoyable. 😁 And this one will be big too. The challenge lies in the wheels and the weight distribution.

It will be a big project, the sizes of the cabin are 48 x 32 x 56 cm with the under frame, wheels etc it only get bigger. 😄 The cabin has space for 4 dolls.

True indeed. I have looked into 1/3 scaled horses but they are hard to find or very expensive. 🤔

And who knows, maybe I will find some on an event or something. 

Small update with the frame attached. Haven’t got a lot of time because I moved to my new home last year. And remembered that I never shared this update here.

The cage parts have been painted in gold and has been attached. The door is a bit bending so I think I have to make some adjustments to that. Also parts like hinges are in preparation.

The ornaments on top have been removed. They are historical incorrect.

Did you find the 1:3 scale horses 🐎? I've just bought a SD outfit that includes a bird cage, so now I am sourcing a 1:3 scale bird 🐦.

Yes and no. I haven’t bought the horse(s) yet. But I did discover one shop and one person who makes some interesting horses. 
They go by the names Secret Loft Designs and Tiriaq BJD. 😃

Dolk had some horses at one point but I can’t remember if they were 1:3 or 1:4 🤔

Thingiverse had a couple of bjd horses if I remember right. That might be an option

I looked into this brand and they indeed made some horses in both scales. 1/3 was more common.

This might actually be a good solution. I do have a 3d printer. 

Ahhh I knew someone's been talking about 1/3 horses! I saw a relevant post on instagram some time ago, but I didn't remember which thread was talking about the horses - I saved the post though so here you go:

TLDR: Frozen 2 Playdate Nokk (this one would need a good repaint to look realistic though) and Twinn Doll Horses might be worth looking into!
