For the annual pre-order there is usually no limit. If you read the fine print you can order something like 10 of each doll per order, and place multiple orders.

Whoa! I had no idea! I thought I saw somewhere there was a limit but must have misremembered it. Thanks for pointing that out 😄

Y'shtola didn't win the game, but damn did she play some good cards!

One doll is in the hands of our doll artist. I've seen a little and we're SUPER excited to see the final doll!

For now, our default Cat Mama is covered in a bodysuit and thick socks and stands guard over the livingroom.

Just chiming in to say that I remember that rumor about the facility damage. The new DDIII frame issue was also a thing.

I was fairly new to the hobby at the time,  within my first year of collecting, and the Sabers were my first preorder. I had never ordered from Volks International to that point and did my order through Volks USA. The Volks USA delivery was really delayed compared to International- I checked my emails and I got my shipping notice in Sept of 2012.  I believe there was also speculation about there being a slight tweak to the frame before that run to try to stop there from being as many replacement requests. People from the International run were receiving already broken in the box dolls that ate up stock of upper frame parts, but my girls didn't arrive broken, and were still ok later when I added the aluminum reinforcement parts that Coolcat had started producing. I sold my Extra on but I still have my Alter v2 and she's still in good shape with her reinforcements.

If im not mistaken it was also the first year you could participate in the preorder from outside japan, but in anycase lots a variables going on that year.

Although probably no preorder has been quite as nuts as Miku's first run was... that twitter post with the packaging boxes in boxes was ... scary.

I got mine second hand, alter had reinforcing bits put on by the previous owner, Nero is still in one piece without reinforcements though not sure what batch that was, actually havent checked is she with the original slim shoulders, and cant recall at what point (or model release) the beefier shoulder joints became a thing.

Just wanted to share this stunning custom Y’shtola I saw.

 

I just noticed that Square Enix pushed the date back to April. I really hope I don’t have to wait that long especially since I’ve seen people saying they are receiving there’s soon from Volks USA. Totally not fair since I believe both Volks USA and the US Square Enix store are in California.

***SIGH****  i wish i had known this before I Placed my order with Square. Square website had a no cancellation policy so i could not change my order after seeing it was being sold on the volks website too (I live in CA). I Play FFXIV and I saw the doll promoted on the game official page first unfortunately. 

edit: for reference i order from the square enix website alot for ffxiv merch and i have never had any problem with their orders.

Has anyone swapped Y'shtola's eyes out yet? I'm wondering what size they are since she's more of a semi-real sculpt. 18mm?

Same but also at the time I ordered there was a high probability that I was going to be moving between the time I ordered and the time I would receive it. I recall seeing on the Volks site that there was a no change of address policy and I wanted to be sure I could change my address if I ended up moving. I have moved and was able to change my address on the Square site.

I can’t help but feel incredibly frustrated and sad reading some peoples’ comments on reddit about Y’shtola. I already struggle with being self conscious about my doll hobby, but the negativity surrounding this release just makes me feel… Hopeless? Defeated? I dunno.

It seems even if you post excitedly about getting her, people think it’s funny to make jar jokes/kill it with fire/she’s gonna kill you in your sleep/etc. It’s not like we, as doll collectors haven’t heard that before. 🙄 

Yeah, I should have a thicker skin, but hearing/reading these comments really start wearing on you.

Cutting down others is a way for someone who feels small inside to feel big. For whatever reason they can't build themself up into a bigger person, so they drag others down to their level. Everyone can be like that to a degree, but some online communities are worse than others.

What's ironic about this sort of thing is that the FFXIV players who look down on people who like DD Y'shtola, have people who look down on them for their own hobby of playing in MMOs.

While this is coming from a fellow doll weirdo, in all our interactions you've always seemed like a perfectly normal decent person to me, so I think it's the people making those comments are the ones who really need to be spending time on self-examination; you're fine just as you are.

Sadly, there is a lot of nastiness out there, and it tends to be louder than kindness. I never was into FF, so I've not seen the comments but can well imagine they aren't pleasant. Took me quite a while to get over the fear of people finding out I have dolls, but once in awhile you still get a yahoo that likes to poke a comment. My other hobby has me receiving a lot of flack, shock, and the 'kill it with fire'. I got into jumping spiders last year in October, and most people have nothing kind to say to you when they find out you have them as pets.

 

Just remember, it's okay to not have thick skin everyday. None of us are perfect, and we all have our off days. Sending some love your way

It’s the comments about ‘they just used the default Dollfie face’ for me because ??? I understand being ‘faceblind’ to sculpts of a company you don’t pay a lot of attention to (for the life of me I can’t tell fairyland faces apart, for example, but if I was a big enough fan to pay closer attention I probably could) but thinking that Yshtola not only has a generic face, but that it’s the same face every other DD has, is next level.

Yeah that one really got me as well. And it was actually OP who said that as well? I really had to do a double take on that. They really said that and "I've always been a big fan of Dollfie Dream stuff" in the same comment. That really had me all sorts of confused. Surely a fan would be able to instantly see the diversity between all the sculpts? Especially Y'shtola, who is one of the few more "semi-realistic" sculpts, which there aren't that many of.

From the context, I think they might have meant that it was the default Volks face-up, versus a custom one, since the person they responded to mentioned that she looked better than the prototype.

its going to be a matter of oppinnion, and also perhaps a lost in translation thing, but one could say that Y'shtola was harmonized to be a smiling cutesey thing as 9 out of 10 character releases seem to be out of Volks. Is this a deal braker and worth bringing up will be up to the person.

 

I caved and got a Y'shtola secondhand after seeing so many gorgeous owner pics on Instagram. One of my friends wanted her fullset, so now I can make her all my own without feeling guilty about it!

Dark wigs look really good with her faceup, so I've decided she'll be my lucky black cat.

I especially love how they painted her mouth - depending on how you pose her head she's either got a closed mouth smile or an open one with a bit of teeth showing! That's a really cool effect.

I noticed that too about mine after I looked at some photos I took of her and I was completely blown away by this fact!

Included the two photos in question of mine where I noticed this, in case anyone else is curious about this effect. It truly is magical!
