DD KAITO

I'm not super into Kaito, but man is his sculpt cute... I already think of a character I'd like to turn him into...

And he's a preorder doll huh..... uh oh

I appreciate that there's already lots of talk about using Kaito for other characters. I'm angling hard for his outfit, so that gives me hope that it won't be hell to find on the secondhand market! 😆👍

 

So, might preorder Kaito, but it's been a long time since I've ordered from Volks so i want to know, with shipping fees, would it be cheaper to go with Volks USA or Int.? Other than price, is there any advantage to one over the other? I live in California, if that makes any difference (I suppose i could always drive to the LA area to pick up Kaito too, but I don't think that would be cheaper than shipping)

The exchange rate with the yen is pretty good at the moment, so if Japan offers a full prepay up front you might be best off jumping on that. 

Kaito is on Volks News 97! I'll be getting it, as I collect all the Vocaloid covers~

I still can’t get over how good he looks. 

I'm definitely getting him with his senbonzakura outfit, it looks soo good! 

I wonder if the little light switches on his clothes can be flipped. It would be utterly useless, but fun! 

Also, on the picture that shows his outfit + accessories there is this tiny, skin-colored round thing next to his pants? Anyone know what that's for? I also just realized that he comes with a mono headset, as opposed to a full headset. I wonder how that will be attached? Will it just be clipped on the ear? 

I'm super excited though. He gets more beautiful every time I look at him

I looked at the rough translation of the page and it seems his headset is held with a magnet! Therefore that round thing is the magnet that goes inside his head to hold the headset

Ah, unfortunately i was hoping for a partial down payment, as I'm hoping to save up before he's released

I just noticed his page mentions that the deposit is 30,000 (10,000 for the senbonzakura outfit) which I think was the same for ReiMari in 2020, so is good news for anyone worried he might be full upfront payment like Yshtola (I expected she was a special case due to the whole Squeenix store thing but it’s good to have that confirmed). There’s also an option to pay all at once for those who want to get it over with, which I might do given that I’ve had funds set aside for him since earlier this year.

edit: Other things I’ve noticed now that I’ve had time to look properly: 1) his undies are fancier than expected lol, I was expecting the basic white boxers that Len got (which I think is the same they Dream Choice boys get. 2) His boots give him extra height, so he does still manage to be a little taller than the rest which is a nice touch. The new header image on the Piapro x DD site with of all of them and Kaito/Miku back to back is really cute.

Based on what Monty just posted there will be a deposit, but Volks USA usually offers a deposit option too.

One other thing between the two is that Volks USA usually ships the dolls about 2 months after the dolls are released. They come over by ship, so that creates a delay.

Gonna try my best to save up the full amount and get him through Volks International since the yen is still low. Curious to see how much he will cost via Volks USA.

I have a question that I'm sure someone here can answer.

If I order him through Volks International, can I put down an address that is different than the one I have for my credit card or PayPal? I ask this since I might not be at the same address next year (a big maybe). So I would like to put down the address of a friend instead just in case.

These new pictures of him make me even more excited to see him customized in the future. And so glad that just his boots are made of pleather and not his outfit.

I am thinking of doing the same. I am not super into Keito's voice but he looks so good!

With the Yen to USD conversion rate right now, it would be almost silly to go through VolksUSA as long as I get the funds together.

When I had an error on my PayPal address I told them and they told me they go by the address you give them on your account file for shipping 

How does the pre order deposit works? I have order from Volks JP regular DD bodies and heads several times. But in this case does the preorder worked the same or you need special membership?

You only need a special membership if it’s clearly marked with ‘GL’ and it isn’t. The deposit is something you check out with like any other item, which locks in your preorder, and then they charge you the rest when he’s ready to ship. Not sure how it usually is as I’ve only ever done a PO once, for 9S, but in his case they sent me an email when he was ready with a button to click to pay for the rest - it wasn’t an automatic charge.

Pretty sure the deposit will be non-refundable past the pre-order period. Usually in the past you can cancel pre-orders up to a specified date, but beyond that date you are locked in.

Volks does periodically change its terms, so be sure to read all the bullet points.

Where did you see that there would be a pay-in-full option?

If my memory serves, Volks International/JP had PIF *at delivery*, but Volks USA does PIF *at preorder*. It kind of becomes about how you want to gamble the exchange rate and/or life, honestly. Personally for my OG Miku I opted to order from Volks USA specifically so I could pay in full at time of pre-order. I kind of lost the gamble on the exchange rate on that one a bit, but life got WEIRD in that year following the order period so I was still super glad I went with the USA pay in full up front option. When she finally shipped it was like past me had bought me a gift, lol. 

I do remember Volks International stopped doing the pay only on shipping option a few years ago, too many people flaked. That's why they do the deposit only now.

My mistake, it looks like that method might be only for in-store. It’s mentioned on here, but not under the (small) info for the online store, and the actual store page for him wasn’t up when I made that post either.

People who have done more PO projects than me had mentioned they always pay in full but I didn’t consider they could be talking about VolksUSA. Like I said I’ve only done 9S and I don’t remember if there was the option then as I wouldn’t have taken it if there was, given that I needed time to save. I would have preferred to pay for all of him now too but at least the larger deposit requirement than last time means there’s less left.

Ok, I think I’ll wait until they announce his Volks USA price before I decide which method to buy from then. Or will the jp preorder probably be over before they announce that anyway? This will be my first time buying a non-secondhand DD in general so I’m not at all familiar with how long the wait between jp and us release times usually is

The US & Japan pre-orders tend to run concurrently.

Since the Volks Japan price is 72,000 yen, the US price will probably be around $720. In the past, Volks USA has generally matched the dollar price to the yen price, not allowing for the difference in the actual value of the respective currencies.  That's why it's often less expensive to order from Volks Japan (depending on the value of the yen to the value of the USD), even with a higher shipping cost.
