DD KAITO

Well done everybody. What a mad doll day. I've preordered Kaito, ordered a new girl from Mandarake and randomly scooped up a very special young lady from a for sale notice I spotted.

A few months ago I also ordered four of the Lego Bricklink designer winning sets too and they might come the same time as Kaito.

First time ordering a doll from Volks JP! So excited, my last preorder doll was 9S so the wait for Kaito seems teeny tiny in comparison.

I tried to order Kaito and the outfit at the same time but the website doesn't let me add them to the cart together 😔 That means we have to pay shipping for each item separately, right?

Yeah you seem to have to order them separately, which is... annoying.

I was hoping they'd ship them separately, but I've never ordered a brand new doll so I don't know what they'll do.

Ha I ended up caving and doing the deposit through the international store even though I intend to do a bigger clothing order shortly. 😅 It was just too tempting to easily get a boy even if I don't care about his fullset. 

I got my preorder in within a minute of it opening which means the wait will feel as long as possible for me 🤡 But I’m glad! 
I hope Volks continues to do more random photos of him throughout the order period - particularly ones of him in different outfits. I’m also hoping that the Volks News that comes out closest to his release has some boy/unisex clothes for DD too that he can model, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up lol.

I was going to order tomorrow in Volks USA, but I couldn’t wait and I end up ordering in Volks Japan. I’m so excited to get him. Not going to lie I know nothing about Kaito or Miku, but I really want a DD boy and this one is so adorable

I quite often watch the Vocaloids on Youtube. I think Kaito is a distant 3rd most popular Vocaloid after Miku and the Kagamines. As such he'll probably have some demand outside of doll collectors. He's nowhere as popular as Miku or Rin though, and Vocaloids in general are kind of a thing of the past.

My girls will covet his nail varnished hands!

I suppose I should really get a Miku too, although we do now have 3 sets of Miku hair 😂.

For anyone new to Vocaloids it's now October so I'll be playing this every day...

 

I just found another along awaited doll for sale, so I plan to make the order in November, so nice that he is a pre-order.

I was really into Vocaloid back in the day, although I wouldn't really have considered myself part of the 'community' at any point. I was just enjoying the music by myself or together with my best friend. Her favorite was Kaito, actually, and I remember burning a CD with his songs for her, gosh, that feels so long ago. 😂

In general, I think popularity wise it would go something like: Miku as the definite first, then Rin and Len, then Luka. I think Luka's appeal back then was that she was (also) meant for English vocals, which the earlier iterations of Miku, Rin and Len were.. not too good at? She also has 'Just be Friends' which I consider to be one of the most iconic Vocaloid songs. Both Kaito and Meiko seemed much less popular to me, with Kaito coming before Meiko, but maybe that's bias lol.

 

On an entirely different note, a combination of things came up in my personal life, so I won't be pre-ordering Kaito just now. I'm confident that I'll figure out everything before the po-period ends, but for now I just need to be patient.

The deposit has officially been paid. I'm so glad they didn't skip over him like other companies always do. 

 

Now to continue the mental debate of whether or not I want to get a second one.

Popularity is a bit of a difficult thing to guage, and depends on who you ask.

Kaito and Meiko probably arent as popular in the song scene's because their software are the oldest, and by the sound of them in the Future Tone and Diva games they are the most awkward to utilize, Kaito to me sounds like somebody is trying to strangle a goose... in a chello case.

The Crypton gang (Kaito and Meiko were Yamaha products) got vocal bank updates at somepoint where they could be used outside their original set music style (Miku was fast tekno dance pop, Luka slower latin stuff, and Rin/Len rock and pop, if I recall correct), and suddenly we have people like Michie M, doing songs like Freely Tomorrow where they are simulating inhaling just to make a more realistic feel. So there is more to gain by going their route.

Trouble is, while very impressive, all of this takes effort to programme, and I think one evolution has been that vocal talent is probably more accessible these days due to social media (this was one goal for the voice syntheisers, that aspiring folk could have easy access to a vocalist), for instance Supercell's Melt has a version that featured a real vocalist, and ... quite frankly blows miku out of the water. so there are probably less vocaloid songs that become hits because of this.

Are vocaloids a thing of the past? ... depends, Sega is not doing the concept many favors with how they are doing the games these days, but still you have enough general popularity in japan for the whole sapporo snow festival thing, and the magical mirai gatherings so there is still that.

compared to V-tubers they might be considered old fashioned... although amusingly there the whole concept is reversed fully.

Put in my deposit for Kaito today! I was originally thinking of ordering two, but I think I'll just end up going through dream choice for the other character I want. Plus the character I'll making Kaito into is a bit shorter, so this way I can just grab a DDSB body and swap em over.

I also learned that I've been nervous about something going wrong with my card for absolutely no reason 'cause everything went through fine lmao

 

After lots of trouble with the webstore (really not a fan of this new system), I finally managed to put in the deposit for Kaito! 🥰 He's such a cutie, and I'm excited to add another Vocaloid to my little family~ 😍 His wig looks like it's going to be terrible (like all the other Vocaloid wigs I've had the pleasure to handle so far), so I need to start looking for options.

I would've loved to get him the Senbonzakura outfit, too, but atm my finances don't stretch quite that far. He looks even more handsome in the Senbonzakura set. xD 💙 I generally love those kinds of "gakuran & kimono fusion" outfits. But maybe they'll bring it back occasionally in the future, like they've done with the other Vocaloid outfits. Alas, I haven't managed to get Len's Senbonzakura set yet either... the timing is always a bit off, haha. xD

I'm sure the outfit will reappear on the store from time to time. I managed to pick up Rin's Daughter of Evil (and Len's Servant of Evil) sets a couple of months ago. Since they also came with their wigs, I was overjoyed to acquire them.

When trying to place my order for Kaito, I can enter my information, but when I try to check out, I keep getting sent to the "site is too busy" page after being redirected through the credit card security pages. Does this mean my order went through or not? I don't think so, because it doesn't show up on my order page and Kaito is still in my cart, and I don't see the charge on my bank account either. But I'm really scared. It happened twice in a row, and only after I submitted the order both times.

That's happened to me more than once during events, and in my experience your order is not placed until you see the order number showing on the final page. I would try again in a few hours and if you still get the site busy page, try clearing your browser cache.

Okay, thanks. Good to know I don't have to worry about accidentally placing multiple orders or something.

Edit: I finally got everything working, and my Kaito is officially preordered!

If you have an order for quantity limited goods pending, their system won't allow another order that includes those same goods. It would take a malfunction of their website for that to happen. The goods drop out of the cart, and you'll see a red warning message about the change.

Iirc, Kaito's pre-order isn't quantity limited, so that wouldn't apply in his case, but the order has to complete, and if it does you will see it in history or under the pre-orders / lottery section.

Hello! Just wanted to say I've ordered Kaito and I'm very excited to get my first vinyl! I'm very happy to join this new side of the community and see what everyone does with their Kaitos. So as a kind of celebration I made a Kaito playlist of some songs I think are neat (someone described his voice as goose like and I thought that was really funny)

Now the Crypton DD series is complete! I wonder if they'll make DD dolls of the Project Sekai cast... hopefully Mizuki, they're my #1 favourite character.
