Where's the cheapest place to buy Image character DDs?

I'm Currently saving up for my first Dollfie Dream, although I am unsure how much longer it will take (it depends on the price I will absolutely have to pay).

 

Unfortunately the particular characters which really appeal to me, seem to all be ones which are the most expensive on ebay, which is the only place I really know about.

 

It is mainly the head mold I care about, because I plan to buy separate wigs clothes etc.

 

I found a Rin Tohsaka who is my number one priority, selling for over $3500 buy it now, which is absolutely out of my price range, by any means.

 

I don't know what to do, because I really want one of these dolls, but I hardly want to fork out around $700 (still a lot of money) for a doll I don't really like. Here's a list of the ones which appeal to me

 

Other than ebay, where can I find them and how much?

Most of the girls you have chosen are very pricey.

 

Rin will go over $2000, Saber will be over $2000, Tamaki will go over $3000, and Ryomou is slowly climbing in price.

Even the heads will be expensive.

 

For Mai, she will probably be over $1000, not sure about her price.

 

For Rei, there are multiple models of her, is it the DD1 version or the Maid version?

The Maid version will be over $1000 as well, almost in the $2000 range I'd say.

The DD1 version is much cheaper, you can get her for 40,000 yen.

Yeah It's a shame, I was absolutely unaware of the prices, they just happened to be the ones which appealed to me. The Rei I like is the maid one unfortunately. I guess Mai is probably my best bet, although she happens to be my least favorite out of the list asides from Ryomou.

The chances of them being re-released are quite slim.

Saber Alter was released again because of the Type-Moon anniversary, and Volks hasn't done that many re-release Dollfie Dreams in the past.

 

Your best bet is waiting for future releases you like, since they are less than $800 that way.

And with the prices, they will not go down.

If anything, they will stay the same or go even higher if the demand is right.

I highly recommend that you consider getting a custom girl. Bodies from Volks USA cost about $220-$250 (depending on if you want a DDII or a Dynamite) and a blank head is under $50. There's many talented artists in the US and even on this forum that would be happy to help you with a faceup for a fair price. Throw in some eyes you like for $11 on Volks USA or $12 from twin-snow and another $30-$40 for a wig and maybe a bit of money for some clothes and shoes, and you're probably looking at around $500 for a full, one of a kind doll.

I totally agree! The satisfaction of seeing something come into being that was originally nothing but a thought in your mind is really something special. Saving money is great but holding a creation in your hands that is uniquely yours and no one elses is pretty friggin cool.

I've just become very interested in Sirius as well, primarily because of her head sculpt, but then I noticed she seems to share it with Kyoko and Yumi, who both have H-05.

 

I also noticed there is a gap in the option heads, it skips from H-04 to H-06. Does this mean H-05 will likely be released?

That would be perfect for me, as I don't like the face up Kyoko, Yumi or Sirius have anyway. I saw some pictures of custom Sirius on flickr which looked great, so much better than original!

H-05, or #5 headmold, is NOT the DDH-05 because it's totally different and unrelated numbering.

DDs have over 60 numbered headmolds, from which the option heads are only 5 and, for example, DDH-06 is #65.

So it's rather unlikely for the #5 (Sirius/Yumi/Kyoko) to be released now as an option head.

We have here some theories, why there isn't DDH-05 available, but these are only theories.

eBay is a tricky beast. You can get fantastic deals on DD stuff there, but you generally have to be very quick. If an item is a good price it will sell out in a matter of hours. The overpriced dolls will stay unsold for months though, and that's mostly what you see when you do a search. So eBay can be great; it's just all about the timing.

 

Other places include Mandarake, Yahoo Japan Auctions, and the Marketplace section of Dollfie Dreams and Den of Angels forums. The girls you want can be found, but it may take effort to search out a price you're willing to pay. As others have said, many of your interests now go for over $2000 minimum, so you'll want to save those pennies.

 

There is one Rin on eBay, a couple on Mandarake, and one on DD's marketplace right now. May also be one on YJA -- there was last week -- but I haven't looked for her in particular today. So you have options if you have your heart set on Rin. (you have good taste - she's my absolute favorite DD too )

 

If it's your first DD, I'd recommend going with either a standard Yukino/Aoi or a complete Limited girl that captures your interest. Building a custom girl is awesome, but I feel like it might be easier to learn how to work with DD if you have at least one other first. Just my opinion though. I remember being intimidated by the high cost of DD and being afraid to break her.. not knowing that DDs are quite sturdy.

For me, I guess you can go around like what the previous users mentioned, buy a custom girl. I am currently saving up for a custom mdd instead of a full mdd Rena pretty much worth the price if you ask me.

I recently purchased a M.O.M.O. from ebay and let me tell you I was really worried to be honest. First off, they are really pricey, after looking at a few sellers I noticed some had the option to "make an offer", which I did, and for whatever reason or another they accepted. I still paid a lot but not crazy scalper price (IMO). Second, I've seen a lot of posts about there not being any fake/recast DD's yet but even so I was worried like "omg I'm going to be the first one". Luckily (again), It was definitely real and brand new never opened. Thats just my story .
