DDS or DDdy body

I bought a custom DD head on Etsy, but I can’t choose a body size for her, I like the DDS body, it’s shorter than a DD body, but I also like the DDdy body haha. I bought an outfit set from booth, the size is DDS M/L bust or DDdy, I’m trying to choose a body so she can wear the outfit.

I can't say anything about the DDdy body, but all three of my girls are DDS and I couldn't be happier with the size of them.  I've never had something not fit them for being too small, and things that are slightly too big are really easy to pin or clip back to make it more form fitting.   

You'll have better luck with outfits fitting on the DDS than you will DDdy, but the DDdy's curves are beautiful. Not the greatest, but comparison photo between a DDS, Smart Doll, and DDdy. I did mod a smaller bust for my DDdy.

As someone who has not handled a DDS body in person, but has a DDdy, I absolutely love the DDdy; but again I am probably biased. I think the lower torsos of DDs and DDSs look thin and sometimes fit clothes weirdly depending on the outfit. The DDdy has a nicer, thicker, torso in my opinion. I think the outfit would look a bit more form-fitting and "filled out" on a DDdy. Depends on the outfit in question though. Also with a DDdy, she has a slightly better chance of fitting generic 1/3 scale BJD outfits without having to pin in place and have some gather in the back in my experience with my DD bodies vs my DDdy body.

Honestly, it again depends on what you want and again I am no DDS expert as I have not handled one in person.

Whatever you decide though will most likely look amazing, and if you're not happy with whatever you chose a member on the forum may be willing to swap body types with you! 😊

I’ve got all of them except an MDD. DD, DDS, and DDDy should all share the same frame so any one of them can do the same things as the others. They all use the same option hands. I think it kind of boils down to aesthetics, so you should probably get the one you like the look of the most. One thing that can make a difference is the size of the head you bought, like a DDH-01 head would probably look funny on a DDDy.

DDDy will have fewer Volks outfits, and fewer outfits from other makers. DDDy does share some outfits with Volks SD16, but SD16 is really much larger than a DD, so it’s a limited set that really work.

DDDy only has two bust options unless you want to trim the vinyl on a DD bust to fit the DDDy torso.  

IMO DDDy looks best with curvey poses, so you’re getting more of a pin-up model with a DDDy.

Thank you for the info, I bought a DDH-06 head, the outfit I bought is like a pajama outfit set, haha. I’ve decided to go with a DDdy body😊

My two main DDs are a DDS and a DDDy.  I love the curves of the DDDy but, I do have occasioal issues with the hips to the hip joints that I do periodically remove her legs so she can stand/sit with them.  One of the other downsides, unfortunately, is that not as many clohing items, especially pants/shorts/undies, fit said hips.  Granted, mine is on a III frame, and hopefully the F3 fixed the hip issue.  Body wise beyond that?  It's fantastic.

 

The DDS boy is one of my favorites, and out of all of the DDS I own, I probably have more DDS bodies than anything.  Both the III and f3 have really nice, durable frames, you can easily interchange a lot of DD parts on it, and most clothes fit it.  At worst, some outfits do look a little long in the arms/legs.  I also feel like DDS bodies are the easiest to acquire second-hand nowadays.  So there's a chance you could get the DDS body as a cheaper option.

 

I think it all boils down to what you imagine your character to be like.  My girls came to me with their bodies switched.  Then I realized I liked the 06 on a more 'youthful' body while the 07 looked better with a more 'mature' body.  

Good choice going with DDdy. I have DDdy Towa. I love her thicc thighs but on the downside I find her a little difficult to pose, especially in sitting positions. I was largely sold on her face, which is just stunning and expressive irl. I really do think she's alive.

Ironically we're now looking to get a DDS, although a Mochi-Ashi would be cool too.

Clothes-wise I find a lot of general stuff does actually fit, although getting shorts over her hips is an epic struggle.

I have that issue with shorts made for MSD on my DDP girls. What I found is that if you put them on and leave them on for awhile, they are easier to get on in the future. Probably depends on the material, but it seems that with some things the material gets stretched a bit.

Volks thinks so too since they released one of their character dolls, Mako, in that configuration.    And I agree, the 06 is very versatile and works really nicely on the DDdy body.
