Advice to remove sticky putty? (SOLVED!)

Recommended Posts

Roxanne

Does anyone have any advice to remove sticky putty?

My expierence with the putty Smart Dolls come with originally has always been positive. They're easy enough to remove in my expierence, but this one in particular is extra sticky for some reason. She is a very old doll though (one of the first) so I don't know if age has anything to do with it, or if they just used a different type of putty back then.

If anyone has any tips to remove it easily that would be great! I already tried just water and my hands but that wasn't really very helpful at all. 😅

I was able to remove it with the help of my mother. It was a hard and slow process but with a lot of patience we were able to do it!

Oof! I have never dealt with such pesky putty before! Needless to say I trashed it. Begone foul demon! No more evil putty! 😂

Sadly this is the reality with Smart Doll. I just can't understand why they'd use it!

So yeah I agree - trash it as soon as you get your doll!

How did you manage to remove it? Just pure determination..? 😅
As I'd also like tips on how to clean my dolls from these messes...

We used something called "Kresto kwik-wipes". It is normally for the skin but it is a very heavy duty, hard cleaning product and can get rid of pretty much anything in my expierence so far as long as it's on the surface. I have used it for many years now on vintage toys to clean them up, and it's insane how fast it works and how clean and like new it can get something again. We started using it because my dad got a bucket of it for free through his work, and it really is such a magical product! I guess the most well-working products usually come from the most unexpected places, lol!

I never used it on a doll before so it was a new expierence, but seeing as it was just the inside of the head I figured it couldn't be too bad. Kresto kwik-wipes again saved the day! I did rinse the head in water afterwards just to be sure. Normally these wipes are not dangerous, but I rather be safe than sorry of course :)

Here is the head now. As you can see it is fully clean now!
