😭 I really want Utena, but doubt I can scrape together the money/effort if it's a lottery. Looks like I should prepare for heartbreak again. *dies a little inside because so pretty dolls! And you have no idea how hard it was to get this series in the UK...*

After mulling it over I think I'll be going for just Utena at the moment and not the two :c
I legitimately love Anthy as a character, and although I can buy both of them
I'd rather not set myself back so much in regards to money.
If it's a lottery I'd also rather not have just Anthy and not Utena (in case I win one and not the other)
and if it's a click war I'll go for Utena.

If Anthy was selling next year I'd be a lot more comfortable or if I hadn't gotten Y'shtola on Dec./finished paying her off.
In general I'm not a big fan of red+ green so color scheme wise Anthy doesn't appeal to me, I love her purple hair and green eyes, though I wish her hair was down since I'm not a huge fance of her bunned up hair x'D at least not for an 700usd+ at the moment lol

So here's to hoping the aftermarket will be kind to me or that maybe her stock lasts a bit longer while I figure something out
like Rena has. If volks offered payment plans still that'd be great, but they don't and I can't do paypal pay in 4 on their international website 😕

I do think Anthy's dollfie is gorgeous though and I'd be nice to finally have a pair of them both (besides their pullips, but I'm not a huge fan of them)
It did get me wondering just how many people WILL order both, or just Utena or just Anthy.

Same!  Originally I had the mindset of 'most people will probably go for both,' but I know buying two can be quite a commitment, like you said yourself.  So then I thought 'maybe people will mostly go for Utena, since she's the title character,' but if I'm being honest with myself, I have a feeling more people are going to pull for Himemiya simply because of her Tawny colour.  I think we'll see a lot of customs using her sculpt, so I wouldn't be surprised to see more people going for her than Utena, really.  I really hope they offer some extra hands in Tawny, at least!  Even if they don't eventually offer it as a skintone outside of this sculpt.

I've deciding I'm getting both, no matter what I have to do, lol.

That's the factor I'm curious about since dollfies aren't bought like scale figures are (which is what I collect)
Dollfie buyers/collectors tend to go for things that they could use for their own dollfies say either outfits or for the skin color/body lol
Whereas pvc scale collecting is set on how many figures the character has, how popular the anime/game is on how many get made/bought.
i.e Shinobu Kocho is extremely popular, but most of her figures went down since SO many people bought them AND she has 6 different scales to choose
from, so a lot of people sell their current one for the one they like the most.

Some characters only have the ONE scale though, so you can tell it'll at least even out in price.
But dollfies? WHO KNOWS. Just because something is popular, that doesn't mean its fanbase will like dolls or the price of them.

Or saying that she was too expensive and not worth more than 200usd (I wanted to slap some people, the amount of ignorance!)
was astonishing, but not surprising. All this being said for the MOST popular FFXIV character to boot.

My original mindset WAS "I'LL GET THEM BOTH, no matter WHAT!" specially because I can afford them both, but I won't feel happy with myself
spending so much on both dollfies and not cancelling PVC scale figure pre-orders, or sacrificing other figures I want for the Anthy dollfie.
Since those figures are of character that I like just as much as Anthy, and whose design I definitely like more.

I'm also not big on dollfie collecting (literally just ordered my first one), but I do think the Utena charas look amazing in dollfie format.
There's characters I like a lot like Rin and Emilia but for some reason their dollfies didn't win me over, neither did Sailor Moon x'D
So I hate they got me with one (two) of the few characters I just knew would look good as dollfies T uT
I mainly want dollfies as character/series collectibles, since for the ones I'm getting I'd legitimately prefer to leave them in their outfits.
The Utena ones would be amazing to pose together though T AT but until I can think of something, I personally can't justify getting
Anthy yet.

I feel like Y'shtola was a prime example of marketing outside of your target audience, especially for non-Japanese FFXIV fans.  There was a ton of backlash from overseas fans of the game who had never even heard of BJDs, let alone Dollfie Dreams.  I fully support them for going for it (because she really is a beautiful doll!) but I understand why so many people had so many ignorant comments about her.

On the reverse side, I feel like Utena fans fall into two main categories:  the "I like Utena but I'm not really going to buy merch" group (likely because, for the most part, there isn't a ton of it readily available), and the "I would die for every character in this series and I will buy any item of merch they decide to bless us with" group.  I think the Utena Dollfie Dreams will be well received by collecting and non-collecting fans alike, even if they've never heard of Dollfie Dreams before.  I for one can't wait to see Ohtori.nu end up with them.

I'm also in camp Buying Character Dollfies for the Character!  I've already planned out a display setup for the two of them, ready to sacrifice two whole shelves for their royal butts.  Really excited to see how everyone displays theirs, too.  (o゜▽゜)o☆

This is exactly how I feel about Anthy. I haven't read or watched much of the series but when I saw Anthy's tawny skin, I just knew I wanted her. Not so much for her character but because of how much fun I'd have customizing her. This oddly makes me feel a bit guilty because I feel like if I was able to get an Anthy doll I might have ruined the chances of an actual fan of the show to get her. I REALLY hope Volks makes plenty of Anthy dolls. >__<

Random thought, how often will people just want the outfit and wig of a limited character doll purely because they don't like the face sculpt and will just put the outfit on another doll? I'm only asking this because I'm genuinely curious how Utena would look in Luka's wig and outfit and vice verse. Or how many people just brought the sailor moon outfits and wigs because they don't like the faces of the sailor scouts.

I'll get ALL the really good things from Utena and mostly have
her Megahouse figure, ordered the Sega one and hoping the Utena figma goes down in price.
I was contemplating getting their pullips but I'm not a huge fan of their looks and am honestly happy with just my Serenity one lol
and I didn't like the Azone one at all > A<;
So their dollfies got me on the weak spot, both beautiful and well, we get both! pajsdoasjd

For me Princess Tutu is the one anime I'd get anything and everything of, mainly because there's so little x'D
For RGU it's just Utena and Anthy . w.
and only if it looks good.

We all collect BJD differently, and I think it's fully valid to buy one to customize.  I'm sure some people will scoff at that but like, we're only on this rock for so long, who cares, do what makes you happy.

I personally feel like Himemiya's outfit set won't be as sought after on its own because her skintone is so specific and her character kind of depends on that aesthetically (at least in my opinion); otherwise you're just going to have a "whitewashed" Himemiya.  I can definitely see people wanting Utena's outfit, to make customs with other sculpts because they didn't like the official, but there's not much you can do for Himemiya unless you put her on an Icon body I guess.  I also feel like there's going to be quite a few of Himemiya's outfits up for grabs after her sale, again because I suspect a lot of people are going to grab her for customizing.

Ugh I want the Megahouse and Figma Utenas too, but they're always so pricey!  And while I liked the Azone Utena doll, I didn't love it enough to try and go for it secondhand.  Now I'm really glad I didn't!  It's such a crime that there's literally only a handful of figures for the series, but I suppose my wallet is thankful just the same...

Volks is basically a hobby company, and customization is fully supported.

I would love to see a Princess Kraehe DD. Her character arc was so tragic, but I loved how she got her happy ending.

Thiiiiis so much! If I could put dolls on layaway there would be no question of me going for one. I guess I've gotten too used to paying that way, and not having to save for limited dolls usually. I do hope they make a lot of stock too. Utena is so awesome... and lots of people deserve a chance to get the dollfies.

I keep bugging my partner to watch it so he can see how much Steven Universe has borrowed from it, heh.

I am so torn. I really want to show my support for the tawny skin tone, but that would set back other doll plans and/or eat up my budget for the rest of the year.

 

But I really want Volks to know that I want more tawny. And the best way to do so would be putting my money where my mouth is.

I can see Utena remaining in stock for awhile, but Anthy is going to sell very fast imo; because tawny. So many people will be buying her to create a custom character or even just to get the joints for their Dollfie Icon Tawny.

@OccultBeast option hands are already a thing in tawny, right? The icons had packs of option hands in all their skin tones made available and they haven’t sold out yet.

Oh you're absolutely right.  I don't know why I was thinking all of the Icon skintones were the 'Pearly' effect, good job brain.  Though, it would still be nice if they sold them all separately.

Yeah I think tawny was non pearly and possibly the ns tone as well

God, I might have to rope in a friend to help if it's a clickwar... I don't think I could grab both in one order.

Not yet. It’s taking a bizarre amount of time for their special sites to go up but someone will post them here when they do. I doubt you need to worry about it until late April/early May though.

The page for the Boys' Dormitory SD originally story just went up (unfortunately all the text is untranslatable because it's all on images, thanks Volks) so hopefully the Utena page is up soon. There's a small image for them on the Boys' Dormitory page, though! But again, no idea what it says because it's an image lmao

It’s says they will both be on display and sold at Dollpa - but now how they will be sold so we’re still waiting haha (the next update I think will have how they are sold because they and the new SD are above the second, not yet live button)

Sorry, I've gotten used to the clickwar release standard, so it's easy to fall into a line of thinking around clickwar releases.

Login 30 - 45 minutes ahead of the event and keep your session alive by browsing to a new page every 2 - 3 minutes or so. It tends to be worse during doll sales events so you might still get the dreaded server overload message when the event starts. Emilia's clickwar was really bad for example, and I think Anthy may be as well if she is clickwar.

Create your account well ahead of the event. You may be limited to credit card only for the purchase. If it requires GL, then sign up for GL a few weeks ahead. That will also give you a chance to test your card against their fraud system, which iirc is 3D Secure. During clickwars is a real bad time to be trial and erroring your bank cards. 

I already signed up got GL and the reaction to my debit card was interesting x'D
First time Volks took it, but then I cancelled it by accident, so I bought it again-- was told there was a problem with my card provider or smth
I tried I think 2 more times and then my payment went through o -o
was the weirdest thing ever. I will be sure to let my bank know to let through a 1.6k usd purchase
to the Volks during that time though/ahead of time to avoid issues.

I also messed up my address name on my account but Volks couldn't change it T uT
(if items don't arrive under a specific name since it's a po box, they get sent back and I live in an apartment so I don't want to use my home address)
So I made a second account and asked them if I could use the same debit card on this new account (they suggested I make a new one, but they told me to not use
someone else's card, I think they misunderstood I'm the same person..)
I can still pay the po box another 50usd to have the name under the first volks page, but I think I'd be faster/cheaper
to buy another GL membership on the new account lol I guess I'm just worried they'll realize the same card is being used
on 2 accounts and ban me for it and that would just altogether leave me without any dollfies ; A ;

The journey to try and be ready for these Utena dollfies has been something OTL
