Utena Tenjo & Anthy Himemiya

While I did decide to pass on these two in the end (I need a new computer more than new dolls lol), I'm absolutely boggled that Volks is doing click war for them. It's like every three to five years they forget WHY they do lottery to begin with: to control website traffic. 

I'm calling it now, the international site is absolutely going to crash during this click war. Volks, have you forgotten how bad the crash was for Moe and Natsuki's original click war release back in the day? And they weren't even licensed from a popular IP.

ugh I hope not - but I’ll have to try - Utena is up there as the top 5 series of all time for me and I missed some of the mech when it was the 20th year anniversary but def don’t want to miss these gals 😭

Luckily I have little interests in these two but I've been spending my moolas on other DD related purchases. Good luck on all of ya playing the click wars.

It's literally not been confirmed what method of sale is going to be used.  The After Event page hasn't even gone up yet.

Deep breaths, everyone.  We still have a ways to go before we find out for sure.

They do list Volks USA as a point of sale. Volks USA is very likely to be lottery unless Volks Japan does a limited pre-order; in that case Volks USA usually mirrors Japan. 

They look absolutely gorgeous at the Dolpa display.

It’s official - Anthy and Himemiya are a click war on the international site.  Good luck to everyone trying.

Now that it's confirmed clickwar, for those who have experience with Volks JP clickwars: can two people on separate PCs attempt to purchase each doll (not the same doll) on the same account?  If my wife and I can each try for one I definitely want to, but I don't want Volks to reject/cancel either order.

Also, does this confirm clickwar also for Volks USA?  Currently the AE page only specifies details for the Volks JP and in-store sales, not Volks USA/friend shops, which is still listed on the Utena specific pages.

It doesn’t confirm what USA will do.  Past clickwars on the international store were lotteries on volksusa.

You can try. Last click war the website was crashing left and right. You might have somthing in the cart and the next minute its gone. It will only cancel orders if you buy more than they allow. Click war is not guaranteed for Volks USA. They might do somthing more civilized😅. I'm only going for Anthy Himemiya and hoping for the best.

Thanks for this.  Yeah, I'm going to try for Utena myself, and have my wife attempt to grab Himemiya at the same time, instead of having me try for and miss both.  If Volks USA can give us a lottery, I'll be happy with that.  Hopefully I can manage to grab at least one of them from the clickwar, and then just have to pick the other up either through Volks USA or secondhand.  Not ideal, but what can you do.

If I can get even just one of them and not have to pay secondhand prices for both of them, I'll be happy.

So now that I’ve had a moment of composure… few questions for those who have been keeping up on how things work now with Volks Intl and their click wars:

Do you need any special membership purchased for this clickwar?

can you use PayPal?

if PayPal is not an option, did you do any prep with your CC to have them not bounce/reject the processing of the payment?

in my scenario, I can have an account and buy a doll (Utena) and my husband can also have a separate account and buy a doll (anthy) right? Can we use the same CC or PayPal or must those be separate also?

If you have to use CC, the best thing to do is to buy something or register for GL membership. That's the only way to test your card. They do use 3dSecure, so it's a good idea to test if you need to for a future event.

The best thing to do is email them and ask about your situation; just be very polite in your query. Courtesy, even western style courtesy, goes a long way in Japan.

The key things are one person can't have two accounts, and one person can't buy more than one of each doll. You want to avoid the perception that this is what you are trying to do. A Volks account in your husband's name and using a payment account with his name on it is best. 10 people all living at one address can buy 1 Utena each, as long as they are 10 separate people.

I would suggest saying that your husband is buying the doll for himself and not for you. I don't think they care if he buys it with his money and gives it to you, but simplification in communication is probably best.

I don't see it saying you can't combine the dolls with other items, so hopefully I can put both in the cart. I HATE using PP due to their stupid high conversion fees, but my CC company ALWAYS blocks the first international purchase every time, so I don't think I'll have a choice. >_< Maybe I can try calling them and plead my case to please okay any huge purchases for the day.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I didn’t think any clickwar release had ever required GL..? I only remember it being relevant for ‘special’ things like guaranteed POs, oneoff lotteries and that time Dolpa was online.

Huh, weird!  I will admit that I haven't paid close attention to most other releases, as these are the first character DDs that interested me outside of the Cryptonloids.  It just feels really backwards to me, like it would make more sense to require GL for limited quantity clickwar items and lotteries, and not for preorders.  But Japan is Japan™ and boy do they always do whatever they want.

Okay stupid question but this is the first time I’ve ever wanted one of these doll so this badly let alone two. If you live in the state can you buy from the site. And if you can how?

They haven't added any of the disclaimer details, and I thought that a bit odd. You might check their site in a few days and see if any new info is up.

You can call them and tell them the card will be used for an online purchase processed in Japan on a specific day, and give them a rough amount.

Yes, but there is a glitch in the site relating to the Zip Code field. I would suggest setting up your account now, and getting your address input. If you run into any errors with the address, then add the zip to the address line 2 field.

It would really be a good idea to buy something from them before the clickwar, because you don't want to be fumbling around fixing things while an event for popular dolls is ongoing. By the time you have it sorted they may sell out. Grab them some alternate outfits and shoes maybe.

Since you are in the states, Volks USA will likely have a lottery for them too.

It actually made more sense to me, because you are paying that little bit extra (membership)for the privilege of the guaranteed PO outside the typical guaranteed PO release, as opposed to a standard release -shrug emoji-. Edit: I mean imagine having to pay GL membership and then lose the clickwar anyway!

I really wish they’d go back to lotteries, although everyone complained about them constantly when they were the regular method too lol. I have some small hope that there are a lot of them because it seemed like way more people than I expected managed to get them at Dolpa, including people past the D group (I expected only A and B and maybe C). International demand may be different though…

Yeah, I suppose I could see it that way, too.  It just makes more sense to me to 'limit' the already limited supply to the customers who actually want them, vs scalpers who will create dozens of free accounts to try and grab as many as they can to resell later.

I think I'd also prefer a lottery, even though they suck in their own way.  At least leaving it up to fate feels more fair for everyone, vs clickwar just 'being the fastest to checkout.'
