finnleo Posted April 17, 2022 (edited) So, another season, and another gathering of photosets... To kick this one off I decided to put back together something on an 0G mild custom of mine, from way back when.. which was last featured I believe in the christmass bash of 2014. Given how well (or not) the posing practice set did in terms of viewership, it was also fitting to feature something that really didnt lends itself to any kind of extreme posing, because of the motif, and also the delicacy of the outfit ... wings included. and so, after swapping the eyes back to the purple resins I had stashed away, combed the wig a bit, I stuffed my other Shino back into the Volks SD13 suigintou outfit for some photo's on my recently cropped photo stage... the first two test photo's were taken with a single 4000k flourescant light, which sort of shows as a bit cold photos, but I really do like how the mousehair velvet pops with it: shino163 by shino164 For the bulk of the photo's I bumped the color temp on the camera (Oh how I love this feature) one notch, and swapped to similar temp LED's for the main lighting, and had the flourescant light up my backdrop (something that chopping two feet off the stage allowed to do now) shino165 shino166 Having the backdrop lit did help a bit to keep the headdress detail show up a bit more... although at the same time I did lose some mystique points. shino167 shino168 What I probably should have not done was turn on HDR photography in the camera, since with this perticular lighting setup it seemed to drop the vibrance, the end result is a bit washed out, which I suppose is pretty much the opposite that this setting should have produced ... go figure, but thats my luck for me.. shino169 shino170 shino171 shino172 shino173 shino174 Neko-modé Sabine Welp, finally had some time and excess energy to take a proper set with the latest addition to the group... the eye's to go with from hereon had been selected but I still had a bit shuffling to do with the wig ... for now I settled on my extra nagato default to best match the eyebrows, and then decided the white neko-bondage outfit was off cooldown ... although I ditched the ear-headband for a pair of rubberband Sujin ears ... which didnt really go well with the nagato wig and the rubberband couldnt be hidden on the top ... but its always something... No photoshop magic, just a nice time with a head that liked to be photographed. For the first few photo's I decided to dust off the big Tokina ultrawide... for science... sabine012 Zeh mohney shot: sabine013 sabine014 sabine015 sabine016 sabine017 The Tokina is amusing and all, but a bit too much funk to deal with in closed quarters so from here I swapped back to the tried and true DX35mm with the built in vignetting on a FX camera: sabine018 sabine019 sabine020 sabine021 sabine022 sabine023 sabine024 sabine025 sabine026 sabine027 sabine028 sabine029 sabine030 sabine031 I still wonder why the head was released into the wild ... but she still purdy... Yet another pick me up... As the subtitle would suggest, I have been trying to get some of the Volks omukae dresses, or Pick me up outfits reserved for the custom SD full choise option models. one of the more interesting editions of these outfits was the lilac wa-loli styled thing, which I finally managed to get in slightly incomplete form, namely missing the geta's. The trouble is that this is still a SD13 outfit, and so far I've more or less managed to slither these on a DD without much fuss or hastle in terms of end looks, but this time it was not going to happen right out of the bag. At first this was meant to be the outift for my last set with Sabine, but the fit was just all wrong, and I had to make a padding corset to make it fit more proper. Sort of amusing was that even though the corset I made mostly added thickness to the sides of the waist, and lower back (by a good 5-8mm) and only a few millimeters at the front, and now being a more snug fit -- it ended up looking a bit tubby on the DD now for some reason. anyways, I decided to let my Ginko (a neris custom) have a go with it, although I had somehow misplaced the mariko default eye's I had used with her mostly .. and thus the green coolcat one's had to suffice... oh well, as always, there's always something... ginko069 ginko070 ginko071 ginko072 ginko073 ginko074 ginko075 ginko076 ginko077 ginko078 ginko079 ginko080 ginko081 ginko082 ginko083 I probably should also man up, and finally give this old purple puppet wig a tweak at the front bangs a bit, so the parting lines for the eyes wouldnt creep up so high. maybe more as the season goes on .... This naturally comes at the cost of reduced contrast between individual brightness levels. - So I'd say it works as intended. The images often promoted as "HDR" just go from there and have the contrast in dark and bright areas either manually or automatically boosted. And depending on the software combining the three pictures into one by combining the highs and lows towards the correct base image, and with the nikon firing off three times, I assume this is how the D610 goes about it. here it seems like it just took "Correct, Correct, over" even though I tried to take a few exposure steps to be sure. You can set the exposure gap on the D610, and I guess because the setting was so bright, it might have needed more gap towards the low end to be what I expected it to be. Its worked before (only once, but I havent really had time to play with the camera): melancholy009nt But its sort of a apples to oranges situation, this being monochromatic, and only one single dim lightsource. compared to color and three comperatively bright lightsources But, oh well.. just need to remember to check results on a bigger screen and not get carried away with single successes.. heh. BeyondTime Posted April 18, 2022 Melancholy009nt has a lot of dramatic potential. You might try selectively brightening parts of it as if she had a stage spot shining down on her. This won't work as well if your hdr presented you with a .jpg as opposed to a .tiff. In my minds eye what I'm seeing is a girl standing on a darkened stage facing an audience with a bit of light shining down on her for effect. One of those scenes where the whole stage is dark and a very narrowly focused circle of light is on the actor. It's a great composition. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

I aim for practical photography, not post production. And this is pretty much how the lighting was set up, spending some time to get the "halo ring" just right with the hair etc. "Snooting" the light could have narrowed the angle, but then would have dimmed out the painting backdrop. As to the overall details ... the photo was done to deal with the passing of a family member. the stump wing, and the painting backdrop are part of the story, which I think it told as well as I could. Ah, ok, that’s a pretty good realization of that concept then. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? And I love her fluffy ears I don’t know if I’ve told you yet. Lately I’m also going for practical photography avoiding editing but my skills are still in progress. finnleo Posted June 4, 2022 Thank you very many. Sabine (or yuki) was a fun one to pose and really did feel like a nice set after awhile especially with whats going on in real life personally. 9 hours ago, Singer Yuna said: Lately I’m also going for practical photography avoiding editing but my skills are still in progress. I need to confess to cheating a bit, by being able to use my storage room as a photo booth with fixed color lighting so I dont need to mess with those camera settings every time I want to take photos. but I still have to take multiple exposure step photo's so in theory all photos have 3-5 takes to pick my favorite out of.
