dreamcore Posted February 10, 2012 I don't know if anybody remembers the stain I mentioned several months back that appeared on the back of Akira's neck after an extended period wearing nine9style clothing without the tags removed, but I have some odd news about it. I originally decided to wait for more stains to appear before trying to remove it, since it was in a not-very-visible place. Just today, I was changing Akira into her pajamas, and I noticed that the stain had disappeared. I quickly got a flashlight to confirm that my eyes were't playing tricks on me, and it was true! That very heavy red stain just disappeared on its own. Has anybody else had a similar experience, or can anyone shed light on how this could happen?
Kumi Posted February 10, 2012 Some stains are just on the surface and can be removed by simply scrubbing. Happy for You
dreamcore Posted February 10, 2012 Yeah, but I tried really hard to remove it with a magic eraser and it never even faded! It was a pretty bad stain... I didn't even look at it again until now, let alone rub it...but now it's completely gone! Not that I'm complaining, though. This saves me a lot of work! Kumi Posted February 10, 2012 Basically, stains removal using Oxy10 (or similar) uses oxygen, found in air too Maybe the atmospheric oxygen just removed the red pigment, it just took the time.
PlasticFantastic Posted February 10, 2012 Basically, stains removal using Oxy10 (or similar) uses oxygen, found in air too Maybe the atmospheric oxygen just removed the red pigment, it just took the time. I find this theory highly unlikely. There is a chance that the magic eraser just took some time to work - like after you scrubbed her with it and left it alone the chemical residue left over caused the red to subdue. I know that after doing treatments on Elle with Remove-Zit and getting it all off it still had enough power to lighten some of my body stockings on her. I think that it took a while for all of the chemical to dissipate from the vinyl. Remember, soft vinyl is porous so it can not only absorb dyes and ink, it can also absorb chemicals that we use to clean them. While I don't doubt that its possible remaining chemicals could continue to fade stains, I can tell you that I have had light stains that I never treated in any way completely disappear with time. With very light stains you may be better off leaving it alone and letting it fade on its own. But I'm also sceptically of the oxygen in the air theory, since it would mean the cloths it came from would also be fading just from air exposure. That doesn't normally happen unless exposed to sun light.
Poofiemus Posted February 10, 2012 I can't offer a theory as to why this happens either, but this actually happened to Nanoha too. She shipped to me with stains on her thighs and ankles from her default stockings. I washed the stockings and gave her a one-week zit cream treatment before putting the clean stockings back on. The stains had only slightly faded from the zit cream, but three or four weeks later and they've faded even more. (Which by extension means that washing the stockings worked in this case for getting out excess dye.) Now I'll have to check Agatha's arms when I next undress her to see if her boo-boos from Halloween have faded or not. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser. milkytea Posted February 10, 2012 I wonder if this has anything to do with the way plasticizers migrate throughout vinyl over time.
dreamcore Posted February 10, 2012 Lots of theories! I'd like to believe that Akira got sick of it and took care of it herself while I was at work one day ^.^ I also find that Akira is pretty resistant to staining, which is pretty nice. I hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying it. I've heard several stories about Remove-zit still working after the treatments had already stopped. I agree that it's because of the porous vinyl absorbing some of the chemical. I've never heard anything about it further lightening clothes, however... I'll have to look out for that when I do stain treatments in the future...

It only affected her body stocking at areas that were pressed against the body (like with shoes over them) and never actually affected any of her actual clothing. finnleo Posted February 11, 2012 Stains going away has happened to me also. Or actually stains fading. Saber's body is in a bit of a state because of the standard, and maid outfits, but when I was doing the christmass get together using her own body, the blue stains were almost gone, and the black one's were less prominent. I suppose the dye might be making its way deeper into the vinyl, or spreading around into it, becoming less obvious, but leaving a difference in color, but not just so obvious as a local stain.
