Dolorre Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) Pencils tested: Staedtler Karat Aquarell Premium Watercolor Pencils (60 pencils, premium) Artisto Premium Watercolor Pencils (72 pencils, bargain) Kalour Premium Watercolor Pencils (120 pencils, bargain) My Test I first tested black, white, and red pencils from each brand on an index card. Then, I tested those colors on a doll head that had been sprayed once with Mr. Super Clear (MSC) and been allowed to dry for 1 hour. My Findings Index Cards Black First: Kalour Second: Artisto Third: Staedtler White First: Tie between Artisto and Kalour Second: Staedtler Red First: Staedtler Second: Kalour Third: Aristo First Place: Kalour Second Place: Tie for Staedtler and Artisto Doll Head Black First: Artisto Second: Kalour Third: Staedtler White First: Tie between Artisto and Kalour Second: Staedtler Red First: Staedtler Second: Kalour Third: Artisto First Place: Tie for Artisto and Kalour Second Place: Staedtler Overall Winner: Kalour My Math: 1st place gets 3 points, 2nd place 2 points, and 3rd place 1 point. Final Thoughts: For a bargain brand that does well on paper and dolls (primed with MSC) that also has a great variety of colors in one pack, try Kalour Premium Watercolor Pencils. For a premium brand that does well on paper and dolls but doesn’t have as much variety of colors in a pack, try Staedtler Karat Aquarell Premium Watercolor Pencils. If I try other pencil brands in the future, I will try to update this post with my findings! nekojanai Posted June 10, 2022 Nice test! Did you test these watercolors with price in mind? Sometimes I see some posts calling for really expensive watercolors, and although they are effective to some degree, having good tools does not make a good artist. I was actually interested if price=quality. I think that it really just depends. I may do a more extensive review later.
