Traveller Posted February 11, 2012 Hi all, After much though and getting fed up with sometime poking Sae or Tomomi in the eyes when coming their hair, only to find that i have dislodged one of the eyes that are held in with eye putty. I have decided to go and invest in a Hot Glue gun later in the week and fix the eyes in place. Never having used a glue gun, let alone fixing my girls eyes in place, does any one know what is the best way to start gluing the eyes. Other than making sure they are straight and not wonky, should i start gluing from the top, side or base (bottom) of eye, Do I need anything to keep the eyes in place while the glue cools. Any help would be great
AerisAquata Posted February 11, 2012 Don't forget to get a low temp gun! A high temp one might melt the eyes.
SakuraSylph Posted February 11, 2012 Also try to get one with a super-thin nozzle from a hobby store. Regular glue guns will put out too much glue and you will burn your fingers while holding the eyes in place. Volks sells a glue gun also in case you were going to order from them anytime soon. I'd suggest practicing with the hotglue on some scraps of wood or plastic, to get used to its consistency, drying time, and how to work with it. It's not like using regular glue. One neat thing about it is that if it dries and the eyes are not how you like them, just warm it up a smidge with a hairdryer. The glue will become liquid enough for you to rotate the eyes, but not so liquid that it will run off. SakuraSylph
misskale Posted February 12, 2012 Volks does recommend, in one of the older Sumika Times blogs, to use bent tweezers to hold the eyes in position if you're using a glue gun.
Traveller Posted February 12, 2012 OK, I've got bent tweezers, as I normally build Plastic or resin models. As for the Hot glue Gun, buying from Volks only allows me to use the Ineternational store, but i know on a dealer here in the the UK called "Hobbies" that sells, dolls, house bits and peices, boats, wood, brass rods, the list goes on, so I should be able to get the gun from them. What sort of temp should i be looking at as I would hate to ruin Sae's and Tomomi's eyes.
milkytea Posted February 12, 2012 You should look for low temp. High temp may melt the eyes.
Traveller Posted February 12, 2012 You should look for low temp. High temp may melt the eyes. I understand that from what was said above already, but I am looking at temp range
