Two miko's

Today was sewing practice day again, with varying results.

The main idea was to get some progress with a MDD sized version of my previous DD sized mikoesque outfit, and while I was sort of happy with the top, the skirt turned out a little comical. -- But as they say, practice makes perfect.

But, I decided to sew it all up in anycase, and had a small shoot with Maria and Yonkko for the most part.

Very nice job on the miko's! These two look so cute together! And Illya is also great in her outfit.

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Thanks again for the positive feedback, but I still need to sort out stuff with the patterns, especially on the MDD one (make more narrow fold templates for the skirt, and tighten up the neck opening on the top).

But all in all atleast its starting to come together a bit more easier than the first one I made last summer.

Beautiful outfits, an amazing job! They look great together. For the original, did you adapt a ready-made pattern or did you design your own? I'd love to find a pattern for a miko outfit for Yuriko.

I had a ready made traditional style-ish outfit, that I had as reference for making the dd sized one.

The biggest difference to the one used as reference is naturally the collar.

The collar is also something I dont have actual patterns for yet, since Im still prototyping with the neck, and do it with some working allowance still.

it was partially hand sewn in the original to get the fold effect right, but I managed a slightly more complicated way with a inverse lip to get a clean look using a machine. -- Typical male approach.

There are also basicly three collars in place, the outer, the red in the middle, and another white one to protect from staining. the red liner is attached to the inner collar.

The sleeves are not exactly traditional also, as they are slightly wedge shaped, and not open at the back.

You can actually see this inner lip slightly in the pictures since the basic cotton I used is slightly transparent.

There are a few work in progress shots in my blog post about the subject (again in finnish, google translator will end in up tears)

Also I used cotton cloth for the belts on the skirts, as the original had a satin strip for one.

This i found a bit of a fiddle to inverse after sewing, but managable, if you dont overtry to make it too narrow.

I would love the pattern for this if you ever get a version you're satisfied with! A girl can't have too many miko outfits, after all.

heh, well.. its not out of the question, however a 1:1 scale yukata tutorial I read would suggest this is really not the way you are supposed to do one of these tops. then again.. the weird hidden hand stitching would require smaller hands than what I have to accomplish in 1:3 scale.

Also there seems to be so many different views on the miko outfit...

But in my oppinnion its nothing you couldnt accomplish with a ruler, and a 90 degree angle -- I mean all I had was a ruler, and legos to get this far.

Maria and Yonkko look wonderful together in their miko outfits. Looks like you did a wonderful job, Maria is very adorable and a miko outfit is perfect for her.
