An IED - A slightly Idiotic Explosion Dispenser.

So as warned in the news and happening topic, here are a few more detail photos of a certain goofball that is probably near and dear to anybody who like the series she is from.

Namely the Chrimson demon arch mage, Megumin herself.

So why a Megumin?

Well... obviously so far she's the only character to be released from the Konosuba series, so any serious fan will just go for that, but in general she is quite the likeable character. Sort of like an over confident chihauhua, who just happens to have one big bite in her every day.

Her personality is modeled after the chuunibyo archetype, which is a bit of a in series joke between her and the lead dude Kazuma. so this is going to divide people do they like her or not ... obviously having a Ranko Kanzaki doll, and thinking of perhaps making a Takanashi Rikka one day, megumin is a nice fit into my collection.

It also didnt much help, that this time, volks actually hit a home run in terms of materials for the outfit, and I cant really fault the outfit this time... although I was slightly puzzled that Volks did not put a wire in the rim of her hat, despite their penchant of sticking them into places where you wouldnt want them...

Obviously the attention to detail goes into the unmentionables, which if I am a bit critical, werent quite as fancy looking in terms of material, but they are black, and they have two ribbons per specification.... so obviously this means that the doll will never wear them ...

Another thing is going to be the head sculpt, which was already covered a bit in the megumin topic already, and she is obviously done to the original character designers specification, which is going to divide fans of the studio Deen anime.

Unfortunately she's missing her early series trademark eyepatch, but that was non existant in the movie if I recall correct, and as already mentioned in her release thread this detail was a gag in itself in terms of how she wore it. if I ever get around to it, I might do a magnetic 3D print myself.

Chomuske is about the size as you'd expect ... which is that it could possibly fit in the bosom of a given heroine.

Overall this should be a release that I shouldnt have complaints about ...

Starting with the most obvious, which is Megumins staff, I can only say outright that its way too big for her.

Its also heavy for some weird reason making posing a pain in the butt.

When I was doing my own staff for a custom megumin of my own, I spent some time trying to get the one thing in my control right, which was the scale of the thing, the details and fixtures being just what I had laying around.

So in terms of this, the included staff is perhaps 15-20% too big ... and I sort of get the feeling that at Volks they goofed up the scale, and just played the mistake as a feature with all the talk about a big scale staff.

The staff is never bigger than Megumin, but now it is .. and I feel a tad dissapointed about this, despite having my own ready to go.

Other nitpics include the color of her hair which obviously is brown in the anime, but the Kurone artwork isnt quite black either, and more brown in tone.

Also the chocker is a bit too big for my liking, and so I prepped a few shots with Megumin in the wig I made, and also the Azone succubus set choker thats a fair bit smaller:

I would probably put it to be conditioned to the anime's lighter brown tone. the weird thing about the default megumin wig is that I guess its Volks's #2 color, Natural, which is a very, very dark brown but photographs as black. Also I dont know how megumin is described in the books, so that might have been something they went with.

Still need to see if the remaining volks extensions are the same shade of brown so I can try and salvage my own wig effort having cut the sides a bit too short... or just invest in a new wig to chop up.

I still remain more in line that the size is the biggest issue. besides the orb, mine looks better, but then again it better do, since I spent 3-4 days on it, and I dont see that happening in a project of this scale, or the cost would be at least 20-25% more.

the default staff has some nice general detailing done to it, and after Rena's metallic flake cleaver I actually appreciate that they just went with the flat brown, but ... that guddam size of the thing ... and weight... cant forget the weight.

I think you can find rooting fibers on Etsy too.

mm.. etsy is a bit of a "oh-dear" thing for me, especially for out of europe low cost items where I would end up paying customs duties just for shipping,

But the volks angle is probably worth a go, since Im planning to get a few things from there at some point... the floating head section is getting a bit demanding.
