What kind of doll furniture would you want?

What is the most sought after type of furniture for you or accessories? Also what is a decent price you would want to pay for something like a 1/3 scale couch, dresser or bed? etc.

I would say for finished real wood furniture, not laser cut plywood, a 1/3 scale piece would be in the $100 - $200 range.

What I really want, and haven't been able to find anywhere, is a proper small table like you would see in a cafe or coffee shop.

beds mostly    probably a AG bed i'd b willin to pay within the 30-40$ range.

Let’s start with the fact that 1/3 scaled furniture is rare. There is not much to buy. A few months ago I bought a coach made out of wood for 45EUR which is a good deal. 

When I am settled at my new home one of the things I want to do is creating furniture in 1/3 scale myself. I planned a short study in the use of tools to get better at woodworking.

I've mostly been looking into getting couches to save some space and give them seating. I've been looking at beds/couches from AG and OG, most of them have nice metal frames with fabric cushions. I think I would be willing to pay up to about $50 for a nice one that looks cute.

I definitely want a bed for my girl! And maybe a big ol fluffy egg chair. I think she'd be really cute in one of those

Eventually I'd love to make a diorama for photos but I don't have enough space for one right now!

Unfortunately they (apparently?) got discontinued before I managed to get myself a couple. - So I'd love to see something similar again.

But be prepared - it will eat quite a bit of space, even though it can be folded for storage.

I think I've occasionally seen something like this at a convention. I'll try to keep an eye out at next week's Doll Show.

Small chairs, and big diodramas. pricing is about where I think a serious effort would be. the Chairs and stepladders probably CNC machined and finished by hand ... the clear topped small round table for one of the prop foods was kinda nice looking... probably will need to steal that idea.

Ah yes very good. I’m asking because I’m considering making something and am wondering what people would be interested in purchasing. I notice volks furniture cost more than the human sized couch I own and was like “there has to be a better way!” 😂

1/3-scale doll furniture is also enormous.

Having more time than money, I attempted to construct a few Smart Doll furniture pieces using cardboard, fabric scraps, and hot melt glue.

Maybe it's not as classy as "store bought" furniture items, but the price was right: next to nothin', and it works for the 'shabby chic' environment which my Smart Doll crew inhabit.

 

Some design tweaks were necessary to scale the sofa (and matching chair) to Smart Doll proportions. Smart Dolls have long legs relative to their overall height, so the seat needs to be much higher from floor level relative to true scale furniture for them to sit properly, and the seat needs to have a bit more depth from front to back than would a true scale model chair.

unfortunately there's no getting around some basic things, setting the time put into any given project, how much are you going to value your own time, subtracted by what you will have to pay for materials, and tools. and how you plan on passing on those investment costs into the product, and at what rate.

The volks stuff is pricey, but if you think of it as a game of reverse costs for materials, wages and whatnots, it doesent seem too outrageous even with a small profit margin ... still cant afford it though, hence I make the occasional prop in my own closet workshop.

i paid 0$ to make my stuff.  had the stuff layin around my apt.  am craft hoarder lolz

The long legs is indeed true. The 1/3 coach I have bought is actually to low for Smartdoll. 

I would probably need a bed.

I’m always in need of chairs. I recently bought the Volks Louis XV chair and I’m sad to say the quality is not as great as past Volks chairs.

Mine has loose threads and glue blobs and even little stains and tiny cracks. I complained but they said handmade items have flaws.

I guess what I want most is a heavy piece that’s just a mini version of people furniture that isn’t so fragile.

I enjoy seating for dolls and other props that can be made. I've seen some doll friends use American Girl or similar brand furniture as well as pet furniture.

Our Generation doll accessories are good for 1:3 dolls but the dolls themselves have very different proportions to vinyl anime dolls. I haven't seen them in the UK that much compared to Barbie and the Monster High types.

I have the Volks school desk and chair set but that's about it. I think a bunk bed would be cool. Furniture sometimes appears on the YJA other category. Sofas are the most common item usually but there was once a 1:3 scale pool table.

I saw this nice looking chair at Hobby Lobby that I completely missed out on. My guess is that it is supposed to be used for a garden or something, but it looked to be around the correct size for 1/3 scale dolls too. I'm going to have to wait until next year when spring rolls around again to see if they return.

 

It wasn't exactly like this, but close enough.

If you happen to be US-side, Hobby Lobby is a good resource for 1/3rd scale furniture provided you catch them on sales / clearance / with gift cards. They tend to have more to-scale stools and aesthetic props like chests, alchemy bottles, some handheld books / compasses / etc.  (Many of these are in the beading section), than beds, chairs, etc.  But something I love them for is cabinets. Yes, you read that right. Usually in the decorative chest / box / shelving area, but sometimes scattered throughout their decor and clearance displays, they routinely carry small knick knack cabinets that are perfectly sized for 1/3rd and 1/4th dolls.

 

(Both the counter and the further-off cabinet came from Hobby Lobby clearance. The doll is a little taller than MDD.)

Another resource is the TJ Maxx and Marshall's outlet stores. Both are owned by the same company, and routinely stock pet beds that are well-scaled to 1/3rd dolls. Some useful ones I've seen include hanging chairs, traditional-style Victorian beds, and teepee tents, all for less than you'd pay for something made for dolls, and more durable. They also get a number of footstools and interior decorating pieces that can be repurposed for doll needs. A footstool makes an excellent table, depending on the style you're going for.

But my favorite is still the charity shops and thirft stores. Antique stores too. The countertop the elf is working off of came from the one I worked at for six years. They're a good resource, especially when you're low on cash, and people often donate their porcelain doll furniture, which is sometimes visually on-par with the Volks stuff, or pretty close, even if the Volks is probably made better. I've never had to worry about paying AG or Volks prices with thrift around.
