Which body?

Well unfortunately you all were right and I now have a second dollfie head. I won a customized ddh-06 and I'm a bit unsure what body to use since I really really do not like tall dolls. My friend suggested trying ddp but I'm hesitant because of clothes and hand options. I've included a picture of her below. Would she be better on mdd or ddp?

I acquired a DDP and a MDD last week. I'm not sure about the DDP. She's a good height for people who are scared of the size of regular DD dolls. On the other hand finding stuff that fits them is more of a hassle.

MDD is a great size because there are a tonne of people on etsy making clothes for them*. The outfit I've ordered for my new girl is out of this world!

*I don't know too much about 1:4 sized dolls but I think MDD will fit clothes made for a lot of other popular doll types of this size, e.g. YOSD.

You will find some merchants on Etsy, mostly Taobao resellers, who will work with makers to custom fit clothes for any 1/3 - 1/4 scale doll. 

Cheerydoll has DDP sized outfts too, but their style is more along the lines of gowns and lolita fashion.

YoSD is 1/6 size, so like anywhere from half to 3/4 the size of an MDD. They can’t share clothing.

She'd be gorgeous on a DDdy.  😄  I know that doesn't help but she's gorgeous and gives off an older sister vibe in that photo... at least to me she is.

I don't think she'd work on an MDD body as I've tried various 06 heads on those bodies and to me, they never looked right.  I have 2 DDP girls and while I like them, I hate trying to find suitable clothing for them.  Most MDD stuff is too short and most DDS stuff is too long.  But that's my opinion.  She'd be good on a DDS but that body is around 55cm so if you're going that tall then do the DDdy.

I appreciate your help anyway! I don't really want a big doll so the tallest I'm willing to do is ddp unfortunately. If she's any bigger I know I won't use her!

In our household head swapping is considered taboo lol.

I just tried DDdy Towa's head on a MDD body and its... strange.

Everybody needs a DDdy though. I do like DDS though as they're a great size and I've had no body issues with my DD-f3 girls.

I think your issue here is that the 06 may not look good on a small body. That head is great though, so I can see why you bought it. 

DDS is bulkier than DDP, but I would say DDS is only about a inch taller than DDP. I don't know if you've seen one in person, but they are a good fit for a doll between MDD and DD in size. You won't have the clothes issue with them. 

Another option would be to try her on an AZ02. About DDP size in height, but iirc they can wear some DDS sized clothes and there are lots of AZ02 sized clothes to be had. Lots of bust and hand options too. No idea why Volks hasn't done option hands or busts for DDP, and not sure they ever will.

What I don't have is a suggestion for putting the DD head on the AZ02 body. I know it can be done, but I don't know how.

It takes some patience (or a drill if you're impatient) but you can get the DD head on the Obitsu neck peg with some wiggling and some heat from a hair dryer. Or just drill the hole bigger. Up to you.

AZO2s use the Obitsu system, so this tutorial will work for em.

Alternatively, if you go the DDP route, the body is similar enough in size to the Obitsu 48/50 bodies that you could just have her wear clothes from Azone. They’re generally not as fancy as Volks’ offerings, but they still look nice. I posted some pictures of my collection in this thread from this post onwards:

 

Here is a quick comparison photo between the various bodies. And, my bad, DDS is closer to 2 inches taller. I forgot I had Iori wearing stripper heels...

If you do hybridize with Azone you have the option of mixing in a variety of parts from various Obitsu bodies, like using Angel Philia torso and leg parts the way @chef_mai did.

Thought you might want some examples of a DDH-06 on an Obitsu and MDD body:

Obitsu 50, DDS SS bust

Obitsu 50, Parabox boy bust, DD wrist and hand parts

MDD mochi-ashi

 

Personally I think a DDH06 would look fine on a MDD body with the right faceup, but the one you've shown us is too mature, it'd would look off. A DDP/Obitsu would definitely be your best bet if the bigger bodies are too much for you.

DDP is most compatible with MDD clothing, even long-sleeved stuff. There are some exceptions to this, but Volks is pretty good at calling this out. I dress my Azone/Obitsu girls in MDD clothing, and of the 16 Volks MDD outfits I have, only 1 outfit has really surprised me in that it didn't fit. I'll be selling that one pretty soon.

Azone clothing made for 48/50 cm will work, but you'll have to watch for long sleeves (which will be too long), and the torso proportioning between MDD/DDP and Obitsu is a little bit different in that the waist sits higher on the Volks. It's not terrible, but it can come up with more fitted clothing.

She'd look better as a DDP but imo, would be better as an AZO2 or Angel Philia because the figures are fuller, and that'd complement the head better. If you prefer a skinnier figure similar to a high school anime girl, you can go with a vanilla Obitsu body. It's hard to tell from the comparison pic above, but they're a little bit chunkier than the DDP.

Or you can do what I do and hybridize the bodies and select the best attributes from each to make your dream girl.

I've tried a few things and they fit, but it depends. Hips and shoulder are the right width, but torso and legs are shorter than DDS. The real plus to the AZ02 is the amount of clothing Obitsu makes.

If you want super sexy clothing, cupless bras and the like, then I would say Angel Philia, but for normal girl street clothes AZ02 gets the motherload and it's a great body for posing.

The big exception is long pants, but Volks always calls out the fits. Some stuff that says DDP is a bit short on DDP, but it does basically work.

This skirt looks good, but some of the older MDD school stuff is a bit too short. Even with this skirt, bend her over a bit farther and it's serious panty flash. Iori does not appreciate this at all. I think one of the bites she gave me got infected too...

That head with that face will most likely fit DDS better. If there are any doll meets in your area, you could maybe see if anyone will let you try the head on various bodies. 

I'm curious what you don't like about larger bodies? I'm wondering because it would help to know if DDS is likely to key into those dislikes.

I want something easy to carry around in my backpack. I'm not interested in getting one of those specialty bags I know they sell. I also saw a dd Miku in person and she was way too tall.

I'm also honestly not interested in ddy. Big boobed girls are not my cup of tea. I just wanted something I could buy lots of nice clothes for and take out.

A DDS takes a big backpack. I fit my Makoto into a large camera backpack and she took up half the space. Pretty sure I had her kneeling too.

Most of my girls are S-bust DDS, which is a perfect bust size imo. Just enough to give feminine curves with clothing on, but not so large it pulls your attention away from their face. The default DDS M-bust isn't much bigger and most Volks outfits are sized for DD M-bust. (Really the size is SDGr, and their size matches DD-M closely.) S-bust tends to have a poorer fit in the chest on any outfit with a shaped bust that lists S - M in its sizing.

You can definitely get a lot of nice clothing for DDS, but they are an in between size for Volks. Most Volks outfits are sized for their SD line, and DDS is bigger than MSD and smaller than SDGr. DD is close to SDGr size. The looser clothing styles tend to work better with DDS. Things like skirts where no one will notice that it covers more leg than intended by design, or loose clothing like hoodies. 

You can gets some great fits though. Like this outfit on Ami. The shorts are SmartDoll brand, both the tops are Volks, and the boots are from Leekeworld. The boots are meant for a resin slightly smaller than DD, and they fit DDS feet perfectly. The purse and belt are also Volks. 
 

 

 

DDS are also super cute, so with the right outfit they are the best looking of the larger dolls imo.

I agree with the other posters, that head is definitely too big and mature-faced for MDD. You might be able to get away with DDP, but I'd personally put her on a DDS. I have not had issues finding clothes for that size - while it's true they are slightly shorter with shorter arms than DD, it doesn't really impact clothing fit for most outfits, as DDS is still firmly within standard 1/3 sized measurements. Most clothing makers don't tailor their stuff too tightly, as they want to sell to a wide market, so unless you plan on buying clothes exclusively from Volks (in which case refer to their fit guides) you should be fine.

As for carrying her around...she'll probably fit in a standard backpack while kneeling, and will definitely fit if you put her in a "sit in chair", "fetal", or "crouch" position with her legs fully bent. You'll want to wrap her in a white towel or something to avoid staining from the bag itself or items in it, but the fit is no problem. Just be prepared, her wig might get a little mussed. You could either store it in a separate box when you store her in your bag or put it in a style that won't get tangled easily, like a braid.

I will give dds a go as well ☺️ Worst case scenario I can just sell the body that didn't work!

This wasn't directed at me, but the reason why I haven't considered a DDS is because I prefer my girls to be in the 5-6 heads tall range that matches what you'd see portrayed in many anime. DDS is pushing into 7 heads tall, which gives them a distinctly different look.

That would depend on the head used though? I just compared the head height to overall height on both my Karin and Akira DDS girls, and they come out to be 6.3 heads and 6.5 heads tall respectively. My DDH 04 on a 48cm Obitsu body came out to 5.3 heads and my DDP with a Reimu head came out to 6.2 heads. But even though my Reimu girl has almost the same head count as my two DDS girls she is much more petite and willowy, so she comes across as younger than them even if you don't compare them directly. 

Incidentally my DDH 06 girl is on a DDIII body, and she's meant to look leggy and athletic, but she still has a proportion of roughly 6.1 heads. The 06 is just a big head. I still think it can work on a DDS or a DDP as well, but that's why it looks bobble-headed on an MDD.

Out of curiosity I also checked my Kosmos, who has the smallest head of my full height DDs. She came out to very nearly 7 heads tall (6.96), but that doesn't bother me for her because she's a mature adult and not a high school character.

There is also the head to body size ratio, so for me MDD really fit a younger aesthetic like Chibi-Usa, and that’s not really my thing. 

Totally ok to want that though, if that’s your preferred anime aesthetic. 

For example:

I don’t see either of these characters fitting an MDD body using a normal DD sized head.

The body size ratio is almost certainly driven by their SD line, and the anime aesthetic for height wasn’t implemented.
