Weird/spooky doll stories?

Recommended Posts

Roserolls

This is a bit of a silly topic but, hey, it's almost Halloween! Which means it's time to tell scary stories to each other! You always hear about spooky or haunted dolls in movies and stories, but I'm curious if anyone has any "first hand" experiences they would like to share (doesn't have to necessarily be possibly "paranormal", just any odd incident regarding dolls).

For example, I don't really believe in spirits or the supernatural or anything, but I have noticed something kinda funny about my Miko...any time I give a lot of attention to another doll (like dressing up or making clothes) Miko will fall over. She's leaned up against a dresser and never falls anytime else. Oh, and if I place another doll next to her against the dresser, she ALWAYS will fall over ONTO the other doll and they'll both topple over. It's happened so frequently that I lay Miko down on the floor/bed before interacting with my other dolls. I even got a stand for the Ye Luoli I customized and placed her clear on the other side of the room because I did NOT want to chance Miko knocking her eyes out (which I spent like an hour trying to position 😤). I think this is a hilarious coincidence that makes her seem jealous, but I'm slightly worried about how she would "react" if I got another dollfie dream 😬 like what, will I wake up to the new head in my bed like in the godfather?!

So yeah, have you had any strange/funny/spooky experiences with dolls (any kind, not just DDs)?

A bit spooky/weird I think, it wasn't with a DD but still a vinyl doll. I was around 9 or 10 and had an off-brand American Girl doll in my treehouse during late autumn (November-ish?). I don't remember what I was doing, but somehow she fell out of my treehouse onto the ground. It was around freezing temp, so the vinyl was very brittle and all of the fingers on her left hand snapped off. I recall being inconsolable until my mom made her a "cast" out of some of the decorate duct tape that was really popular at the time 🤣

It's taught me to be very very very very careful when handling my DDs during cold weather. I've honestly considered getting a small heater for my room, I'm at the back of the house & furthest from the heater so it gets cold by the exterior walls (one of which is where my DDs are displayed)

I bought half a year ago an old doll dress from flea market. I washed and dried it, so that the old stains from the dress would be removed and the basment smell will disappear. When the dress was clean I tried to put it on my dolls. It had to be for a 1/3 or something because the dress was was too big for my dolls. Since I have that dress in my room, there is always a strange feeling in the evening. I was on vacation some months later and my aunt visited us and stayed in my room for the time I wasnt there. She told my mum that she always had a strange feeling in the evening. And my aunt is really not into dolls nor spooky thinks, so she doesn't know abou the dress. This scares me really really much because I now know that this is maybe not my imagination...

It wasn't spooky for me, but this was about, a four month ordeal for my brother. So I'll just recount as faithfully as he told me.

It was a tropic Summer day. Me, my brother and our dad piled into the car after a lengthy chit chat with the post office cause lo' and behold, I got a new doll. My family, bless, have gotten incredibly used to my dolls as it was one of the only hobbies I steeped alot of my money into. So my brother watches me demolish this box in the car and unpack what would have been my 5th resin babe.

He watches in fascination at how much bubble wrap there was, how naked this resin man was, how I couldn't even wait half an hour to unbox this thing- and it happens. Very slowly, this doll's head begins to turn towards him as I am distracted with the its feet. It stares at him, bald, eyeless- needless to say, my brother claims he was weirded out. But he never said anything about it because I WAS trying to wrestle on the tightest pair of pants onto those legs. He passed it off as A String Problem.

Thing is, this String Problem doesn't stop. My brother one day approaches me around 4 months after that unboxing and tells me "Mei, I hate to break it to you, but I think your doll is bloody haunted. No, I'm CERTAIN something is inhibiting it." He proceeds to recount to me that since I got the doll, he has been keeping an eye on it everytime he passes by my room, or whenever I have left this doll out and about. He details that EVERYTIME he passes it by, EVERY SINGLE TIME, this doll's head will slowly start to turn towards him and stare him dead in the eyes.

It didn't matter where he was, behind a door frame, over the sofa, by the coffee table- this doll would without fail, turn to look at him. It no longer seemed like A String Problem.

As I watched my brother progressively start to sweat as he detailed this experience to me, how he KNEW our house was haunted and that maybe they were finding homes within the hollow cavities of my dolls, I had to break it to him that his doll paranoia stems from the fact I was too lazy to change this GIANT S hook that was absolutely twisting the torso elastic to hell and back, and the turning of the head occurs when the elastic is fighting this hook to untwist itself. He didn't believe me at first, until I lightly tapped the doll's chin, and then it went to town all on it's own, slowly swiveling to stare at him.

I wrestled this S hook out immediately, spend half an hour restringing him, and this turning of the heads incident never happened again. (I personally am convince this head turning incident didn't happen as much as he claimed it did. I liked the tension of the string at the time so I was hesitant on restringing, it's not like the head was always running away on me when I was taking photos, afterall. But hey, it was spooky for him for a few months xD)

No, no haunted stories here.
But one strange thing in my photo album on my phone.

I make a lot of photo’s with my phone. Family, friends, our club etc. The weird thing is that by people only seven images of my bjd girls are shown (which simply means every bjd girl I own) None of my photo’s I made from family and friends. The amount of photo’s made by my phone of the bjd girls have been decreased since I bought the camera last year.
I also make photo’s of my figure collection and these aren’t in that list too. A weird coincidence.

During the summer months Uzuki's eyes looked astonishingly lifelike in the late evening sunset and I was convinced she was going to come to life. It's a feeling that is difficult to describe. None of my other dolls appear to have this power. Uzuki is a very special lady.

Forgot to add Towa once scared the bejesus out of my sister. I find that Pureneemos are just dolls, but anything Dollfie sized or up has the ability to really confuse our subconciousnesses.

Not a haunted story but a weird one for sure.

My mdd wears this mint wig 24/7 and it has this bright blue wig cap for some ungodly reason. She wears one of those white fabric wig caps underneath to prevent staining. I remember once taking off the wig and checking on her head and lo and behold there was a bright blue stain where the white wig cap apparently failed to cover. I was a busy student back then so I couldn't treat it right away and decided to let it be. A good portion of time passed, maybe weeks or months, I'm not sure since this was a long time ago. When I finally checked again so I could treat it, there was miraculously somehow no signs of a stain being on the head? Like at all? It was like there never had been a stain in the first place.

I still can't tell if that stain was just a dream or real 😭😭😭

Woah! I've heard a lot stories about weird vibes from dolls, but never from doll clothing! It's super creepy that your aunt felt the same thing in the evenings that you did, I legit got goosebumps reading this! 😬

Aww, that's so cute! This reminds me, I have a spiritual friend that believes that if people pour a lot of love and attention into an object, then the object will eventually develop something like a soul of its own, which I thought was a nice thought (although idk if I'm explaining it right, I don't really know anything about all this spiritual stuff lol). Maybe your Uzuki is giving off a nice glowy aura because of your care for her? ☺️

Lol that's like a glitch in the matrix type of thing! I wish I could get a glitch to take away a stain like that, it would get rid of so much work with the stain cream! Although I had a similar type of "glitch" thing happen too. I once tossed a doll on my bed while cleaning my room, and well, I guess I tossed her harder than I thought because one of her Chinese hairpins just flew off! I distinctly heard the sound of the hairpin hitting my floor and started looking everywhere for it, but couldn't find it for the life of me and eventually gave up. It was like it just clipped out of reality. I told my mom about it and she told me to do a rhyme for St. Anthony (saint of lost things I think) to find it lol. So I did...several days later I hear the sound of little metal chains tinkling and look over to see the hairpin had fallen out of one of my bags. The thing is that this bag was on the other side of the room from my bed where the doll was, plus I already searched through it when I was initially looking for the hairpin. Just thought it was strange...

Actually this is a thing with vinyl. The dye that caused the stain likely dispersed into the rest of the vinyl and now you can’t see it anymore.

This is an old Shinto belief. Maybe it exists in other cultures too, but basically the thought process is that if your feelings towards something are strong enough, they’ll be ‘imbued’ into an object, giving it life.

That is a strange but I'm glad to hear you were able to find your pin!

Ohhh ok, that makes a lot of sense, thank you for explaining! I was under the impression that vinyl stains would stay until removed but considering it is a porous material, it adds up!

I wonder if that is where the author of The Velveteen Rabbit got the idea from?  That was my favorite story when I was a kid, and one of my BJDs has a custom-made miniature version of the book.

Wow that brings me back. I loved that story as a kid. The concept is similar, so maybe it was a more common idea in the past that was forgotten with time (in the West at least).
