Can a DDIII internal torso be used on a DDII

Recommended Posts

Roserolls

I've looked over comparison threads about the differences between the DDII and DDIII bodies, but most of them seem to be about differences of the outer bust parts. I found a doll on a DDII body that I was interested in buying, but her internal shoulder frames are crushed. Does anyone know if I would be able to buy the DDIII internal torso skeleton part and pop it on her lower frame and use the rest of her DDII parts? Or is the DDII frame/body parts only compatible with DDII parts?

Edit: to clarify, I think it would actually have to be the DDf3 internal torso available from volks that I would want to replace the DDII internal torso with, and was wondering if that would work. Sorry for any confusion!

Unfortunately DDII frames are rather incompatible with DDIII frames. Particularly in the shoulder joint- the pegs that come out of the arms are completely different between those generations and as a result the upper torso frame is also completely different, with different sized holes in the shoulder. I've gotten DDII arms to fit into the upper torso frame of the Obitsu 55cm boy body, but as that body is also discontinued it would likely be just as hard to obtain as an unbroken DDII upper frame.

I don’t know about compatibility as I don’t have a DDII frame to compare with, but Volks doesn’t sell the internal frame separately to begin with. You’d have to buy a whole bust piece or unitorso and then either use that or struggle with it to remove the frame and refit it into the vinyl shell the doll comes with.

Alternatively, you could try to use the Cool Cat bust and shoulder frames if the wrist pegs in the DDII are compatible with it, but it might just be easier to buy her a whole new body in the same skin colour (if that’s possible).

Edit: Wait, I’m confused why you’re asking about the torso when it’s her shoulders that are broken.

There is no compatibility between DDII and DDf3 frames, and only some compatibility between DDIII vinyl and DDf3 vinyl. You either need to find DDII parts, or buy the set and get a DDIII or f3 replacement body. Keep in mind that a DD head that came on DDII will likely have some yellowing so it won't perfectly match a newer body.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

It's the shoulder holes in the internal torso that are crushed, this was the part I was thinking of: https://volksusastore.com/webstores/dollfie/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=10022

Since it's difficult to tell from the photos just how bad the internal damage is, I thought it would be better to try to upgrade the whole torso. But, it sounds like that won't work out well. And I'm assuming these coolcat parts won't work either since they're for the DDIII body, right?: http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=D2-1220-10

Thank you for clarifying! I'm probably just gonna pass on the doll lol. Thank you for saving me from wasted money and frustrastion!

One last item.

My Mio Akiyama was originally DDII, and I have her on an f3 body. There is a slight color difference, but it's hardly noticeable unless you are trying to see it. You can't even see it in this photo, and there is no retouching between face and bust.

You're right, you really can't tell! Good to know! (I was a little freaked out when yellowing was mentioned, since I thought vinyl dolls barely yellowed. Good to know that it's a bit of a minute difference if I need to re-body in the future)

However, I don't think I'll buy a new body for the doll mentioned. I was mostly just interested since it was a great deal for a nostalgic doll to me, so if the replacement parts from volks/coolcat are incompatible, then it isn't worth it as much lol.

I don't know about that, but so far any yellowing in my flesh and SwS girls is hardly noticeable.

Yes, but they also have these (which fit into the Cool Cat replacement bust):

http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=kss_14

If the elbow joints between the II and III are compatible, then it should be possible to replace most of the upper body with the Cool Cat parts.

They yellow very little in comparison to resin dolls (aside from white skin. no gods can save you there) But I've noticed volks seems to change the vinyl formula a bit with every frame series release, so DDII/III/f3 are all slightly different shades. I don't have a DDI to compare personally, but there's a noticeable difference in colour, texture, and hardness between my girls from each frame series.

Wait, they sell a replacement bust/torso that fits the DDII frame? I only saw they had a (sold out?) upper torso replacement parts for DDIII body, and those looked different from the photos of the DDII internal skeleton I saw. Does the DDIII torso skeleton work on lower DDII skeleton? If so, then that changes everything lol, I can just buy the torso and shoulder joints. (However idk if or when Coolcat will restock those parts and it sounds like the internal f3 torso is incompatible with the DDII frame).

If this is the DDII frame (which it says it is), it looks like it could work, but it depends on the size of the hole in the bust piece/thickness of the peg in the torso piece.

You should ask Cool Cat directly if their replacement parts are compatible with the DDII frame (specifically the bust/torso and the shoulder/elbow parts).

I was able to put both in my cart so I don’t think they’re out of stock, it’s just hard to see the link. It says ‘Add to Cart’ at the bottom right of the page for both products (just text, no button).

What the photos don't show you is the hard insert that the vinyl bust fits over, sort of like a DDII rib cage. The upper torso frame part slides into that, so any DDII replacement piece has to fit inside a plastic cylinder. If coolcats makes something specific to DDII then it should work, but a DDIII upper frame replacement wouldn't.

I think the upper torso frame on the DDIII is longer and the lower frame is shorter in comparison to the DDII frame. They had to be in order to accommodate the extra shoulder parts on the upper.

You basic issue is that Volks moved past the DDII a long time ago, and even the DDIII is hard to get parts for.

I don't think you could even do a full replacement frame like Asachan's, because the DDII arms are very different from DDIII. You'd have to replace some vinyl.

Sorry to bother you so much, but would you be able to link to the page with the bust/torso parts that you're looking at? I think I'm looking at the wrong parts, since I thought you were referring to this: http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=v_15, which I can't find the "add to cart" link for. Were you instead referring to these shoulder parts instead to add to the DDII frame: http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=D2-1220-10? If so, sorry for the confusion! I was unsure how people were differentiating between bust/torso/shoulder parts. 😅

Ah I see, this could be a problem. Well, I'll try doing what ragnamuffin suggested and see if Coolcat says if either the shoulder parts are compatible with the DDII torso (since it looks like they might be able to screw on?) or if possibly the whole DDIII torso is compatible with the DDII lower frame at all. If so, then cool! I might get her and try to fix her! If not, then oh well lol.

Thank you guys so much for the info, it's been really helpful. I'll report back what Coolcat says!

Ah, I’m an idiot. I don’t know why but I thought these were the entire upper frame and not just the shoulder joints:

http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=D2-1220-10

These are the shoulder pegs that fit into the joints above:

http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=kss_14

If the joints can’t be attached to the DDII frame then it’s not going to work. Sorry for the confusion. I really thought it was the entire upper frame for the bust instead of just the shoulder joints.

If Cool Cat says it’s incompatible, then buying a new body is probably the easiest thing to do, albeit not very economical unfortunately.

Those shoulder joints are incompatible with the DDII frame. Sorry, my DDII bodies are in storage or I'd photograph the II and III upper frame to show how different they are.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! It turns out I'm just a huge idiot lmaoooo

The doll in question is actually on the DDIII body (2nd edition Moe). I have no idea why on earth I thought she was on the DDII. The pictures literally even show the leg slits in the back that belong to the DDIII body. I now have a mark on my face from face-palming myself so hard🤦‍♀️

I purchased her and will just be buying the stupid shoulder replacement joint lol. Sorry for wasting everyone's time here, but thank you for trying to help me anyway!

Congrats! I’m glad you were able to get the doll you wanted after all.
