Imomodoll 1/4 Vinyl Dolls??

Recommended Posts

Veravey

When the tans start coming in, is anyone able to colour compare with TinyFox's 1/6 tan from their first gen of 1/6s?

I know we had some colour comparisons pop up in the past but I can't for the life of me remember what page of the TF thread they were on. And I'm about 90% sure it was a match with a resin brand, one that Janes carries I think?

I'm thinking about grabbing a tan 1/6 regardless given their price, and I'm ok with the quality of my 1/4 Imomo given her price.

I've been busy, but now that I have some time, here's a proper translation:

spacer.png

As for my take on this, the comparisons with Obitsu and DD brought up in this image seem to be more for the purpose of illustrating the design principle behind the joints that allows them to perform rudimentary rotation. There's an acknowledgement that these design principles are preceded by Obitsu and DD but the overall theme of the point being made seems to be more that the principles aren't inherently original simply because there had been a precedent because it's found on a common logic. Same with the hand. In which case, the issue would lie more in the construction of the joints. In the DD example's case, the bottom is larger and rounded off likely to fit the shell of the forearm.

Adding on to this, I still stand by the idea that there's a limit to the number of ways you can design the joints without overlap because the way arms are supposed to rotate anatomically are fixed, and while there are different brands that deviate slightly in their design of the joints they still follow the same principle, i.e discs and hinges for flexion/extension and balls for pronation/supination. An argument can definitely be made about imomodoll's arm frame construction being so close to MDD's, where one will be right to say that it's a copy, but after looking at the joints of both Dollbot and Tinyfox as well, it brings up another question for me, won't imomodoll still be under scrutiny for plagiarism if they did their joints differently? (To clarify at least from what I gather from the thread so far, the sentiment seems to be that imomodoll specifically followed MDD's design that's why they're being accused of plagiarism, which they could have avoided or be seen as less guilty if they just approached it differently. And my question is would they really though if they did?)

The reason I bring this question up is because, Dollbot's joints follow the same principle illustrated in the DD example in the image (concealed top half, rounded off bottom) but it utilises a hinge rather than a hooked joint for the flexion/extension of the arm. In Tinyfox's case, it follows the Obitsu example of having exposed double joints connected by two disc-like hinges in the middle for the same motion but instead of having the discs overlap they're connected to the respective upper/lower joint. You can find this statement confusing and say "Didn't you just explain that MJD joints can be constructed differently from Obitsu/DD?" for which my point is that both Dollbot and Tinyfox's joint designs are actually fairly basic versions similar to Obitsu/DD's to achieve the basic range of rotation, and if imomodoll didn't use the hook method or the overlapping discs, they can still be guilty of 'lifting' from either Dollbot or Tinyfox as well for following the same principles (hinges and discs). Especially considering that both Dollbot and Tinyfox already came out before the imomodoll vinyls too and the bar for plagiarism accusations that can vary.

And that's really the crux of my stance on this issue here, for me the problem has more to do with how the discussion about the case and accusations surrounding plagiarism in general are approached than any purchasing decisions to be honest, just to be clear. And what that means for a brand/dollmaker's integrity not just in the perspective of the consumer but also in the perspective of what goes in the process objectively. If that makes sense.

This is the most recent update on the sculptor's weibo about the head.

You do understand that scrutiny by definition means inspection.

So yes, in a hypothetical situation that no matter how differently they would have designed the frame, if they had not posted any pictures of it thus far, once enthusiasts would get their hands on it, they would take it apart and compare it to what other manufacturers have done.

And this scrutiny applies to any new item on an enthusiast market. for instance how we take the latest offerings for mainstream producers and go about the pro's and con's with them.

The main question is how it survives the scrutiny, and in this case so far only based on the arms -- not so well, being a 85-95% visual (again major emphasis on visual) resemblance of the the arm design of the market leaders latest, fourth iteration of their arm design (if you count in the original single ball MDD elbow),

As a side note, the trick question here would be that would there have been less attention if the imomo design had followed the DD3 elbow type, where there is a metal screw and nut upper joint, but as things rolled, we wont know.

And on the other hand we have for instance Dollbot that seems to have made severe efforts sacrificing aesthetics so that their product does not visually resemble anything else on the market, hence surviving the same scrutiny much better.

The bottom line is that at the very least the most optimistic viewpoint there was little to no due diligence done in comparing the design to existing products on the market.

And the worst case was that the designer wanted a pretty joint, and took a shortcut.

Edit: So what does this mean from a consumer stand point?

Its up to the consumer. Do they care about it, if price and availability are overriding things in the decision.

Sorry if this question has already been answered, but I recently bought a 1/4 scale Imomodoll and I am very happy with it... however the joints are so loose that the arms and legs keep falling off. Has anyone else had this same problem and if so, what do you suggest to do about it? I really like how the body looks and for the price it can't be beat! But I can't really pose or play with her like this, so I'm not sure what to do.

@Kirino Hi! I have not received my imomodoll yet but maybe you could use washi tape (or really any kind of tape) to thicken the pegs so they stay in place better?

Yep, I just wrapped tape (I used plain old packing tape, so I think most types of tape should work) around the pegs and it drastically improved how snug they fit.

Thank you both! I was able to fix the loose pegs with that trick!

@Cheesecake Thank you so much for your efforts in translating this chart! I've felt pretty strongly that Imomo was being unfairly accused for what were extremely superficial similarities, so I'm glad their sculptor said something. I love my girls, faults and all. I look forward to Imomo's future with vinyl dolls.

Does he come with a body cause i see only a head? XD

Maybe it was just a teaser, they said they would release more information today. So hopefully they reveal what the full body looks like. 😅

Hi there! Your local CN translator/Taobao/Weibo person here! Only the head is available at this time. We have had sneak peeks of the body from the sculptor in the past and we have been told the body will be coming out at some point this year, but so far no finalized body. Just the head 😊

Do you know what is the diffrence between the "simple head" and "not simple head"?

A new upgraded 1/6 body is on the horizon. https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4900190575923347

So this is actually not an upgrade, but actually the anthro 1/6 body they’re working on!

Also, and I’m trying to be better about updating yall here and not just the discord (adhd + mom brain is hard)

Blind bag Imomo 1/6 heads in white and tan are coming to Taobao on 5/12. Only 5000 units will be available. You get to pick the color but not which head you get. Supposedly going to be ~$2 a head.

Link is not up yet otherwise I’d post it, but I do have the images for potential options!

Not to get too pedantic, but they're changing the proportions and probably making some other minor improvements too. I'd call that an upgrade.

I did ask if they’re fixing the thigh issue, but haven’t heard yet ☺️

All the different head sculpt options are pretty cute!
The new larger guy seems really nice too. 😄
