muddled Posted July 19, 2023 (edited) I got my first imomodoll recently, she's my first vinyl doll after years of collecting resin bjds! I love her but I had a lot of the same problems you're having @AliceDoll 🥺 After some mods though she's quickly become my favorite and probably my most posable doll, I'm so smitten! The tape method worked for me, but it took some fiddling with it (it kept getting pushed down when I put the arms back on) What ended up working well was making sure the length of tape was short, maybe like 1.5 times around the peg? Otherwise it was too thick to fit back in the arm socket. I also made sure to extend the tape beyond the top of the peg, and as I wrapped it, folded down the top of the tape over the peg, and taped that down. That way even when the socket is pushing down on the tape as you're reattaching the arm, the tape is 'hooked' over the top of the peg and can't move. It took a few tries, but she's able to hold all the poses I put her in now without them falling out, even the face-touchy ones! Coming from resin, my go to for posing issues is hot glue. I'm not sure if this has long term effects on vinyl so make sure to research if you want to try it, but I was able to fix the head wobble/popping off issue with a combo of tape and hot glue. I taped the bottom of the neck peg as I did the arms, so that it stays attached to the body even when i hold her by the head. On the head on the outside of the neck socket, I treated it the same as if I were hot glue sueding a resin doll- apply a thin, smooth layer. Then on the inside, I built up a few layers of glue until it connected with the layer on the outside, and completely plugged the neck hole. Before it was fully dried (but not wet!) I carefully pushed the neck peg through the glue, and then removed it and let the glue dry. Now the glue is holding the neck joint from both inside and outside, and it fits super securely on the neck peg. Bonus is the glue provides friction, so I don't really even need the silicone washers. Her chest popped off every time I even thought of moving her lol, so I ended up just hot gluing the chest joint to the spine (not the top part where the ball joint sits, the part where that connects to the spine) Shes SO posable now in her chest it's nuts, she can bend any way and hold it just fine! It's not perfect, but it's night and day from when I got her. I hope you're able to sort out some of those issues soon, it can be frustrating for sure 🥺 Edited July 19, 2023 by muddled

I'm hoping someone has some answers here too that won't be like.. super permanent!! If nothing else comes up I may try the nail polish despite the yellowing. T_T I also can't figure out how to get the head to stay on. It's so floppy even with the little rubber thing! It just lolls around and round and round. All the resin dolls I had like years and years ago had hooks so this is a first for me with vinyl! Is there a proper way to do it? There was a metal disc thing inside the box.. but I can't figure out where it goes as the peg width is too big. Everything about this doll so far has been floppy lol -- so frustrating!! T-T I had the problem with the head being very wobbly as well, I fixed it by just wrapping a string of sticky tack around the base of the peg while the head is on it, but I also ordered these neck donuts, I hope they can fix that problem permanently. Courtmom Posted July 19, 2023 For the wobbly head I doubled the rubber wing nuts and that helped a ton (I bought direct and they sent two) as for the joints I may have umm… 👉👈 put a little blue tack in there? 😬. It worked though!!

At least enough so I could dress her and take a quick photo T_T -- still super wobbly/wonky though. I think what I might do is try and figure out this glue thing I keep seeing on all these JP YT videos and maybe try that. Perhaps the smootheness of the clear tape is not giving it enough traction? IDK what imomo was thinking releasing with this body cause dang!! I'm so glad they fixed it (hopefully) on the 2.0 skeleton!! 10 hours ago, MoiBakaDesu said: I had the problem with the head being very wobbly as well, I fixed it by just wrapping a string of sticky tack around the base of the peg while the head is on it, but I also ordered these neck donuts, I hope they can fix that problem permanently. AliceDoll Posted July 19, 2023 (edited) I managed to get her kinda together this morning with everyone's advice! (Thank you!!) It still is not.. super stable. I'm really contemplating looking more into the 2.0 bodies T_T -- I'd love to know just how much better they are. Maybe I'm being too hard on myself (and her -- I mean it was under $100 for everything which is crazy inexpensive when you compare to puyoo kumako and MDD). I will let you guys know how the glue goes and if it works on stabilizing the arms!!! Edited August 14, 2023 by AliceDoll
0bsequi0us Posted July 19, 2023 I actually just got my 2.0 body (the Ruby version) and while it's an obvious improvement I'm still not totally satisfied... The loose joints have absolutely been fixed though- the arms are actually a little difficult to remove now. So if that's your biggest qualm I think you would be pleased with the 2.0 skeleton. My issue is that the leg parts STILL don't fit snugly together... 😭 The gaps are not as egregious and they added some little silicone parts to the knee joints that deter them from swiveling around wildly. But the gaps at the ankles (curiously 1 ankle is worse than the other, not sure why) really bother me... It just makes the doll seem a lot less stable. Also taking this opportunity to warn against hopping on the upcoming 75cm body too early... 😰 According to their Weibo it will be on sale on their taobao today/tomorrow (depending on your time zone lol) but we know from their past releases that the first wave is almost always rocky. I'm hoping that they'll eventually figure things out on the first try, but their track record isn't promising. And I know a lot of people are excited for this release but like... proceed with caution. 😱 1 2 Pixel art by @PlasticJester !

I'm glad they made some improvements -- but that is still annoying about the gaps. T_T I really like the chubby bodies -- I'm honestly wishing I could afford a puyoo kumako but at an average of 600$+ it's just not something I can justify for myself in this stage of life. I wonder if the 1/6 bodies are any better at posing/gaps??? Maybe if they're smaller they can squish better idk haha
Courtmom Posted July 19, 2023 Personally I try to think of them as WIP dolls. For the price you'll NEVER get something perfect, but if you know what you're doing, then you can MAKE it something perfect. It boggles my mind how many people try to whine and complain. Like excuse me? A MDD is like $400 to $600! Ruby and Miko are only $50ish. Don't get me wrong, I get the whole "I paid for it, I expect it to work" notion, but if you don't approach it that way, then you'll be happier with what you get. In fact, a friend and I are considering throwing spare SMD frames into the 75 boy. Because no, he won't be perfect. But you know what he will be? A vinyl boy. Thats what 🤣 *Not hating on or attacking anyone, merely stating my opinion.

I think some of us just really lucked out with the V1’s we have. I have V1 and my 3 are only mildly/occasionally annoying. But no more so than my Dollfie or MDD. It sounds like you just got a bad one
muddled Posted July 19, 2023 (edited) I'm so glad you were able to at least improve her a little bit! Hopefully with time and some tlc it will get even better, and if not at least 2.0 sounds more stable 😂 I for sure am looking at my girls as project dolls so I don't mind the need to mod them, all in all I'm just super happy I was able to try out vinyl dolls at all; the price point of MDDs were a barrier to entry for me without ever having handled one before (and from what I've read, they have issues with being loose sometimes too 😭) It's totally valid to be frustrated with the quality though regardless of the price point, so I'm glad to hear 2.0 made some improvements! I need to get my girls painted so I can justify getting another doll on the 2.0 body LOL Edit- Ohhh the silicone in the knees are 2.0? That means my short body/'chubby' girl must be 2.0, which totally explains why she wasn't having the looseness issues my small chest/2 piece torso girl is having 😂 Knowing that, I 100% agree the arms are way tighter, but I found the silicone in the knees doesn't do much unfortunately to keep them from spinning 😞 Edited July 19, 2023 by muddled

Maybe if they're smaller they can squish better idk haha Yeah, I am really glad there are more cheaper alternatives to Kumako now-- The $600 price tag has always been too much for me too. 😅 But between Shoushoudoll, imomodoll, Dividing Line, Maydoll, etc. I haven't really been as tempted. They're still not as affordable as the vinyl imomodolls, but closer to the ~$200 range. In my experience after they fixed the problem with the legs falling off, I haven't had any problems at all with the 1/6 bodies! They're really great imo. 😙 Tbh if I had to guess I'd say the 1/4 ones are only having so many problems because the 2 different body types are sharing a skeleton and getting all the measurements right would be very tricky. But also I just think they were highly anticipated and may have been rushed out a little too early. 1 hour ago, Courtmom said: Personally I try to think of them as WIP dolls. With dolls like this that come with a lot of engineering issues (especially V1.0), it's a good idea to discuss what to expect and how to fix these issues if you happen to encounter them. And frankly I find the argument that MDDs cost more so it's OK if Imomodolls fall apart out of the box to be a little bit silly... Any doll, even a $5 budget Barbie doll, is expected to perform their basic advertised functions. And these dolls still aren't, like... chump change. $50 is still pretty expensive for a doll, expensive enough to expect functionality. Obviously no doll at any price point is going to be perfect, but that doesn't mean that no one should criticize any of them. And even if you can improve these dolls quite a bit with modding, I haven't seen any fixes yet that approach perfection. And in my experience the most effective fixes are fiddly (tape) or require irreversible modifications that not everyone will be prepared to attempt. That's why it's so important for people to know what they're getting into and be prepared. 7 Pixel art by @PlasticJester !

I'm very sorry to hear about all the troubles with your Ruby body, you seem to have gotten a very bad egg there. 😭 Mine has a bit of a wobble here and there and the left arm likes to pop out sometimes as well with very angled posing, so I think I will attempt some modding there as well. But nothing that would take away from the joy of posing and playing with it. And I agree with the previous statements, I also don't think anyone is "whining" here, but no matter how low the price is, it would be nice if the doll would at least not fall apart ... Well, I do have to say, I have a pretty high "pain tolerance" in that sort of thing, being so used to my 1/12 Nendoroid dolls losing their limbs if you just look at them wrong, so with a big company having products that are far from perfect I am sort of more willing to cut a smaller doll maker some slack. And even with these rough first waves I think it's impressive how quickly Imomo is working on these improvements! Just seeing how quickly these v2 skeletons made it out there and all. Ah, I also painted my other head last weekend, so currently my boys are sharing this v1 body, but I have a v2 ordered and coming in soon as well, so I'm excited to compare these I person as well.
AliceDoll Posted July 21, 2023 (edited) I just wanted to thank you guys again for being so nice and helpful! Your kindness really means a lot!! I did end up trying the "glue" hack. It dries clear and since its textured the arms grip so much better now. I can pose it this way and that way without them popping out at least! It is by no means a permanent solution, and probably has to be reapplied every so often - but at least it works! I may look into 1/6 too -- idk what I was expecting but 1/4 is pretty big and takes up a lot more space than I thought! Roserolls Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) My chocolate Ruby arrived and AAAAA she's adorable! I'll have to post pictures tomorrow! So far the only issues I've noticed so far are that her head peg keeps coming out (currently trying to use top coat method to fix), her head was wobbly (fixed by cutting a hole in a clean little makeup sponge and putting it on the head peg with the silicone helicopter thingy on top) and the bust has a small gap in the back where you can kinda see the inner parts (tried to push down on it but that didn't do anything, but since clothes cover it, it's not a big deal for me) I was pretty impressed with the range of motion in her elbows and wrists and how lightweight she is! She seems more pose-able than my tinyfox and fits standard msd clothing much better. Honestly I was so impressed I'm already considering getting one of their 1/4 fullsets, especially if the new body is supposed to be more durable...plus the idea of a plastic wig really intrigues me, I wonder if it would stay on better than a normal one.🤔 Edited July 23, 2023 by Roserolls
muddled Posted July 27, 2023 Wanted to post a little update on posing / looseness on my v1 girl! The tape didn't end up holding, so I tried the clear nail polish method instead and I feel like it's working much better- way less finicky than the tape, and easier to control the thickness of the polish. I also stuffed their calves with polyfil, and it's helped with the vinyl spinning over the skeleton quite a bit (for both my v1 and v2)

MyDollection has them with shipping 50$ but the reviews for them are... mixed. That helped SO much! I was able to swap hands much easier, after I heated up the hands with my heat gun.
